I just finished a coding bootcamp for Front-end development. It was stressful and time consuming. I feel like I could have use free resources and still have the same outcome. If anything,it was a good headstart. Good luck,Colby!!!
That’s sus as hell that they offered a full refund in exchange for a signature on an NDA. Literal hush money. No thanks! I’d rather get a second bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
Thanks for sharing your experience. It makes me respect you and your channel knowing you’d sacrifice thousands of dollars to share the TRUTH about general assembly.
well it was also a no-brainer for him on the liability front since he already had prior videos up about his GA experience and any legal hassles would cost infinite compared to the 4k refund
This experience is complete trash... Not your video of course. The fact that this happened and they can blanket over it with an NDA.. THIS is something that should go viral and I hope it does for your ability to share calmly and itteligently while maintaining a straigh face in spite of the fury you must feel. Not only for yourself but for the others as well. I am just learning coding myself, life long carpenter/fabricator and need to switch to something less demanding on my body... so thank you for your story it at least reached 1 person.
Hey im really sorry about your experience. That really sucks! Thank you so much for your video. We all really appreciate your honest feedback! Good luck.
I'm currently enrolled at the Flatiron School, and my course starts on Monday. I'm sorry to hear your experience didn't go very well with GA. That's such a frustrating situation to be in, and the lack of accountability from the faculty is disheartening. You definitely are more than capable of suceeding on your own.
I’m curious to know how your experience was at flatiron? I’m looking to do a bootcamp but have literally been up and down about it for a year because of reviews like this. Any help is appreciated!
been following your journey from the beginning, in tandem with my own path toward bootcamp. sorry to hear about this bump in the road, but inspired by your positive outlook. onward and upward.
Colby, I've been immersed in coding for the last 13 months. Every so often, I've felt tempted to join a bootcamp with the hope of landing a job, even if it means going into debt - something I'm typically hesitant about. However, I genuinely want to express my gratitude. Your honesty and transparency have provided me with invaluable clarity. I truly hope you achieve your aspirations soon and you will mate. Thank you from a Brazilian in the UK.
In this type of economic cycle + ChatGPT ... it makes even MORE sense (and much easier) to start from the ground up fundamentals (and even to choose a harder path such as ML, Augmented Reality, Embedded systems etc..) and to spend way more time learning them. When I went the bootcamp + self-taught path years ago I was rushed and skipped over most fundamentals in order to get into the hot job market and now have ever growing lists of personal learning 'to-dos'
Hey Colby, good to see that you are staying positive. Definitely reach out to Derek from Perpetual Education about those fundamentals you spoke about here. He's great
I’m in coding dojo and I love it. The have a very helpful support system with instructors and t.a’s ! The curriculum is broken down and paced in a way that is easy to digest. It still has the bootcamp pace but in my experience as long as your determined and do the work it will go well. I am not a sponsored person I am a current student. I had a not so good experience with ed ex bootcamp and luckily I got out without debt. Although I will say it wasn’t totally ed ex fault as I would say they packed to much info into to little time. And their ta support wasn’t the best in my experience! In my ed ex there were 90 people I. A cohort as to my current coding dojo there is 24.
I had a very similar experience with another Bootcamp. I'd love to chat with you regarding your background and what alternative plans you've made to further your journey into tech.
Would love to hear your experiences also being that I’ve been contemplating with going to a bootcamp. Let me know so I don’t make a bad decision! Thanks!
Thank you for sharing this information. I just saw a boot camp of theirs being advertised and wanted to make sure if they were legit or not. I took some coding classes back when I was in high school but I would like to go to a boot camp to certify my knowledge on newer languages and break into the industry. I started studying Python in my free time and I picked it up pretty quickly so I'm pretty confident in my skills
So sorry to hear that happened to you. Not all bootcamps are unethical, but that's a raw deal for sure. I teach in the bootcamp space. Hit me up if you ever want to give it a go again!
Much respect to you for speaking out about what happened. Giving up $4000 to warn others is unreal.
Way to keep going despite a setback. I'm liking the video edits too!
Thanks David! Talk soon.

Which one did you attend? I’m currently considering going to a bootcamp but now I feel like GA is off the list.
Glad you at least got a job despite your bootcamp experience. You will keep learning as you go on

Agreed!

You are a man of honor. Being honest with myself, I would have signed the NDA.

Loved LOVED the chill follow me around vibes 😊 👌🏼
Man that sucks, hope you can make it your way into tech

Take them to small claims court. The cost to defend will exceed what they kept.

The only silver lining is that it made me make up my mind and I’m sure so many other people too.
Sorry to hear you had such a bad time at Flatiron School, but glad you are speaking out about it!
He didn’t do flatiron. He did general assembly
I did the MIT No Code/Low Code AI course. It was really good. Just attend a bootcamp from a known name like Johns Hopkins, MIT, etc.
So sorry to hear that happened to you. Not all bootcamps are unethical, but that's a raw deal for sure. I teach in the bootcamp space. Hit me up if you ever want to give it a go again!
Hey man let's chat. Hit me up on LinkedIn - just search for Colby Jax you'll find me.
What are some good jobs that work well with learning how to code on your own?
Just sue them, they can't deny a refund after issuing it out to all of the students on a condition like that.
respect
Why does he keep saying "cohort"? Does he mean "class"?
co·hort
/ˈkōˌhôrt/
noun
1. a group of people with a shared characteristic.
Yes same thing. They call it a cohort at GA.
I see.
Sounds like a scam
It's a SCAM 😮💨
