I relate to a lot of this, especially the part about how exhausting reading can be. People who think dyslexia is only about reading words backwards don’t understand that! I like to read-lots of fiction, but I also like non-fiction if the topic is interesting to me-but even if it’s a book I absolutely love, I can only handle doing it for 1-2 hours a day. After that, my brain feels full. A great book that a non-dyslexic can finish in a night will take me about 2 weeks (although the upside to that is that I can spend more time with the book, which sometimes helps me develop more appreciation for it).

This hits the nail on the head and describes the type of reader I am :)

I can very much relate. I never suspected I was dyslexic either, because I was an avid reader all through school, vivid imagination and all. Reading a book was like watching a movie in my mind, only better. As I have gotten older, I noticed that my brain just gets tired trying to read some things. I totally agree, some material is very difficult to read, a lot of work. I never really understood why some things were difficult to concentrate on, and others were easy. Thank you!

Recently just found out that I am dyslexic, I am 36, and this video just gave me a little more hope to figuring out how to navigate my dyslexia. Thank you!

You can do it Brian - it is possible to lead a very full and happy life and be an adult dyslexic.

Thank you, thank you so much. Even after being diagnosed, I am still in denial thinking I could read. I was a very great reader as a child, how could I even be dyslexic? But described my textbook struggle and work email exactly like how I feel. I felt so understood.

I relate to what you say about imagination. I could literally create a movie in my head from a fictional book. It is almost as if I am watching a movie in my own head. Pictures in my head are everything, it makes up about 70% of my thinking.

I once read a read a retelling of the first episode of a show. A year later I saw the episode for the first time and I got desjavu. It was like I had seen those exact scenes before, despite never having seen them.

Funny story. Years ago someone ask me what I did at work. They would just see me going around the work place. I went on 4 weeks leave. The same person said "I don't know what you do but I know when your doing it". Someone ask what my job was last week.

I hated reading it sends me into stress mode. Still do as an adult. I did everything I could to get out of reading, I could feel everyone in the class looking at me and paying me attention. It’s exhausting

Because Text books are written by individuals using vague concepts with little or no useful concrete examples. Those individuals (professors that use university level jargon) have learned to regenerate "facts" and philosophies with no real live experiences (just book research) and therefore do not have examples to relate the information. It's like taking a class in cooking and study the "philosophy" of food preparation and cultural differences and ideologies without stepping foot in a kitchen!!! Chemistry is taught the very same way (no wonder students regard Chemistry as "boring.") My point is; Don't kick yourself to hard. Not all professional text books are written very good. Just because the writer have several PHD'S after there name doesn't mean they know the subject to properly relate that information.

My daughter is 9 and she has always been a great reader. The school says she has a reading age of 11. However overnight she seems to have regressed in reading and seems to be reading a lot slower and really having to concentrate. Could this be dyslexia?
