    I tap welded a make shift frame for an office on a huge crab ship in the middle of the Pacific and just hung up drywall.. This is Gangster! You are top shelf dude.

      Thanks! So you welded a trailer for a camper on a ship in the middle of the Pacific…? What was it for?

    Good stuff. Looks like a beefy build. I intend to make my frame when I do my DIY build. I grew up on a farm with a full metal fab shop. I only have the basics where I live now(welder, weld table, chop saw and angle grinders), but may make a trip back “home” to the farm for the build. The right equipment can certainly make the build easier and more efficient.

      Absolutely! We made a jig so we can quickly set the tube in place and tack it together. Having the right set up makes it so much quicker! But it can be done with the bare essentials too.

    I am really enjoying your videos, right from the first camper you built in your driveway for yourselves! I came across your channel when doing research to build our own camper and it was an inspiration and I learned a lot and your channel continues to teach and inspire!

    I see that people recommend to use 45 on the corners. I think that's a good idea, but the 90 corners you are doing seems that it would be much easier to square. I'm going to use gussets, so I don't think there will be a problem with strength.

    What was your reasoning for using that axle setup and not going with a timbren axleless setup?

  • @JohnEich
    @JohnEich 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great video! Thanks for taking the time to film and edit it. One part I was really curious about was how you cleaned up the welded frame and coated it. Did you leave that open so people could choose their own method? I'm curious about rolling on or spraying a coating, vs dropping it at a powder-coating place. Any suggestions? Thx!

    • @WanderTears
      @WanderTears  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! Honestly I felt that it as pretty boring to watch me wipe the frame down. This one we had to wipe down with acetone several times over until it was completely clean of oil. Then we prime, paint/raptor line the frame and fenders. Having a clean surface is probably the most important step here. We also use a surface restorer as well to get it down to bare metal.

      Dang! That thing is stout! Great build!!!
      Would you say it’s overbuilt or am I just underestimating the needed strength for a tear drop?

    Awesome channel! Just curious what’s the size of the frame? 5x8?

    • @WanderTears
      @WanderTears  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thats it! It’s a 5x8. We actually make it slightly smaller to accommodate the camper sitting around the frame.

    After thinking about this for quite a while and looking all around the variables in all the steps and feeling overwhelmed, I have finally decided to get after it and get to work 1 step at a time. Frame is where to start. This video is great. I see the corners are overlapping in the video vs in the plans they are cut at 45 degrees in a miter joint. Curious about the different approaches from your perspective. I assume the square cut is easier to keep square and is less temperamental as far as warping. Any advantages to the miter joints?

    • @WanderTears
      @WanderTears  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s great! I know you can make it happen, and we’re here to help.
      The square cuts are simply easier to cut. The mitered cuts might look better and provide the full frame to run wiring if you go that route. Initially we did the miters also to give no open ends, but we simply put a cap on the ends to solve that issue. Also, you are correct, getting the square cuts square is much easier. In the next plans update we will be making a few changes to the trailer frame, including this.

    Great video! Hope you have more on the step by step process of building a teardrop. I have your plans and my Ironton trailer from northern tool is on order.. so if I move the axle supports back as mentioned in the plans it will give me correct location for the axle?

    • @WanderTears
      @WanderTears  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    hi, thanks for sharing this. what do you use to coat the frame. also, just wandering, on your stabilizer jacks, any particular reason you used 2 extra tubes (per jack) to attach, instead of just one plus perimeter tube? this would make it more stable i think, or would it be interfering with your design?

    • @WanderTears
      @WanderTears  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We coat the frame with automotive primer and paint, and use truck bed liner on the tongue, fenders and other vulnerable areas. It could likely be done with the side bar but it would interfere with attaching the camper.

    Hi, I'm curious, do you need to get this build approved by a gov agency? in europe we need to get a test inspection for any vehicle on the public roads, and it's a pain.

    • @WanderTears
      @WanderTears  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If it has an identification number then it can be registered without inspection. If you build something from scratch and are not a manufacturer then it will get inspected here as well.
