And man this is a sweet build love the sound of the power supply thumping to life and the whole dynamic of the build is awesome. Now are you sure you don't want to do another one when my 220 makes it to the bench I would love to have a 4 tube 😁 Ah just kidding I'll stick to it being a two tube. Oooh this is a cool build! You always build the absurd and the superb! 😁 Can we talk electronics for a minute? I am curious how the fuse for the ground is connected which if blown breaks the connection to the contactors and the negative of the HV bonding to ground. Let's say the positive of the HV gets shorted to ground. The fuse will blow, but now you have +4000v on ground in refence to the HV circuit because of the short and -4000v from ground to the negative of the HV circuit. The negative of the HV circuit is still connected to one side of the contactors because they were tied together. Doesn't this then allow the -4000v from the HV to go back through the coils of the contactors and feed into the 120v AC line trying to make it's way back to ground? Hey I just figured it out you were doing the work for someone else. I am looking for a tube type clean like the one you have there but not wanting it to be too much in power maybe like a 1k at the most with low input around 4 or 5 watts or less .. I have a Palomar 2 driving 3 ... It seems to do 300 watts ok .. just wondering if you could take it apart like you did that one and make sure all the voltages are right .. all is working the way YOU think it should the one you just showed on this video is awesome work ... let me know please sir .. thanks Terry
That super. The thing I do different with external HV is I but bradding on HV lead and ground at both ends. This adds extra safety to HV wire if gets pinched . I got that idea from my work as a electrician with primary under ground cable is made that way . and also adds more ground to cabinet to cabinet , even with that I never touch both cabinets at same time. ground is not always ground. love the work. now we have HG SD 1446 and 2SC2510 24V pills. waiting to try them out. Everyone says about 4 turns..... Y... How big if turns. Between this video and another he had demonstrating putting resistors from anode to ground while using a nano VNA to see the the match on the amp output with relay closed finally puts it all together for me. But I didn't remember hearing u say that it affects the tank coil length. Maybe u did. But from what I remember from that video and this video it finally clicked on how to actually use my nano VNA to tune the coil to find the most resonant uH. I sat there for only about 10 minutes squeezing and spreading the tank coil till I got my 1.01 SWR and 50 ohm it should be. I've spent days adding jumpers and removing jumpers, adding turns and removing turns trying to figure out what was the best combination for most power. Maybe make a video like the bias flop video for us lemmings who are trying to pick through the knowledge you're giving. Trying to piece it together. I can literally say my learning curve on RF the last two years It has been like learning Chinese from watching nothing but Chinese movies on TV. Same videos over and over and over back and forth until this or that little bit makes sense to the point I can use the info. Thanks again I called you some time ago with a low power output issue. U recommended bias. Didn't end up being the issue. It was a collection of issues but the biggest one was the filament choke was causing too much voltage drop. Only giving the tubes 4.5 vdc. It was a hand made one someone made using too small of wire and it was overheating and loosing voltage. Your bias video showed me the voltage it was supposed to be. And I figured I'd try to remedy that and boom now I'm getting 2,500w out from 250 watts of drive.
I use the company that manufactured it siglent, bird, coaxial Dynamics, fluke. My Spectrum analyzer and my oscilloscope aren't old enough for recertification yet they will be coming up next year. And all of my elements that I use for measurement are within 5 years old and do not need to be recalibrated either.. For now. I do believe that happens sometime next year I'll have to check my shop notes very good question though. thank you for asking it. I have working relationships with all of the companies and they helped me out in any way I need.
Couldn't help but notice when checking voltage sag under load some of the tubes weren't glowing. Im buying a 5kva 2400 volt transformer which will be qbout 3400 volts rectified. Im hoping in a full bridge and that much head room i wont sag 1,000 volts like yours did

The ALS 500m is a great little solid state box the problem is the Toshiba transistors are no longer available for that amp and that is what made the device so bulletproof over the years. I've done several videos with this amplifier where we can upgrade the plug and we can upgrade to power wire and we can upgrade the wire inside the piece of equipment and it makes it work a little bit better.

The resistance of the tube over the capacitance of the tube divided by the frequency dictates the inductor in "u H" length....
