    there is concern that sublimation onto vinyl can lead to dye degradation. One alternative that is worth considering is the use of thermal lamination film. The material is PET (polyethylene terpthalate) which is the substrate on which dye sub ink is designed to bind. There is also a two part ester resin that is being offered for the purpose of providing a suitable base for dye sub ink. Great video! Thanks

      We use lamination film on occasion. It works well over many surfaces such as canvas, wood, etc. Good point. So far the lanterns have held up.

      @@dsignsbyaandj6848 I'm wondering if I could run some lamination film through a thermal Dye Printer (ie Selphy) to get a removable image that can be ultimately laminated onto a sheet of photographic emulsion. I'm just concerned about killing a new Selphy :)

      yes mine on the oracle have faded also my glass cutting boards have faded. I am going to try the lamination film. it is just the regular lamination you put into a laminator isn't it

    Do you peel off the paper that the print was on, or do you leave it on?!

    Great result but I would have liked to have seen more detail in your process. For example you used water to adhere the vinyl to the glass but were or how did you place the image? I am assuming you printed the images on sublimation paper and attached that to the vinyl. I want to replicate this technique so I want to make sure I understand how you did this. It looks great by the way !

      Hi, thanks for asking.
      The vinyl is placed on the glass first. The water allows you to slide it around to properly place it. Once the water is squeegeed, the vinyl sticks to the glass. Place the image on top of the vinyl non mirrored and sublimate.

    Love this. Question: did you print the image on sublimation paper? How many seconds did you sublimate at 380? Sorry I’m need to sublimation. I just love how this came out.

      @dsignsbyaandj6848  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thanks for asking. Yes. It’s sublimation paper and sublimated on top of the vinyl for 50 seconds but time may vary slightly depending on your press.

      @@dsignsbyaandj6848 Are you saying that you sublimate with the vinyl up on the glass and the image on sub paper face down on the vinyl then heat pressed for 60 seconds?

    Can you sub another picture on the back side , so there is pictures inside and out?

    • @dsignsbyaandj6848
      @dsignsbyaandj6848  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The picture is sublimated on the inside of the glass. So a second print would not work. In a sense, the image is burned through the 651 vinyl.

      This was glossy white. You can remove the paper by running water on it.

    Do you have issues with the images getting blurry over time? Approximately 1 year has gone by and the images seem blurry. I can show you what I mean if I can email you the pictures.

      I recommend using a battery light instead of a fire candle. I think the fire and heat causes some of the blurryness.

    It makes NO Sense Not to Mirror. Once you Sub it, you'll get the reverse image. So you NEED to mirror it to get the correct view on the vinyl. Because you are not looking at the image THROUGH the reverse (back) side of the Vinyl in the lantern.

    • @dsignsbyaandj6848
      @dsignsbyaandj6848  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The image is seen through the 651 as if you are looking through a window as it is sublimated on the backside of the glass. In this case, mirroring would be ok if the vinyl was on the outside of the lantern.
