Of all the reviews I've seen so far this is the one that'll push me over the edge to buy an EM. No ridiculous music. No over the top maneuvers. Just a bloke riding the type of stuff I usually ride and having fun. EM should make this their promotional video.
Those are some mad trail bike skills Ian! You are so lucky to have such a beautiful area so close to your house for biking and to have electric trail bikes as an option. Great video by the way. :)
Great vid; I enjoyed it. I just picked up a used one last night and was surprised at the amount of noise it puts out. Now I have an idea of what to look at. Looking forward to your next vids on this.
I had found the manual that you are showing in your vid, but after I struggled to figure out the proper sequence of connecting the battery charger, I was turned on to this link for the user's manual, which is different. electric-motion.ro/pdf/user-manual.pdf
I didn't like e bikes at all in the beginning but now they have developed into a great product that will give you a lot of fun and you can use it in places you could never use a petrol engine bike
My boy has an Oset but he's getting bigger. Will be taking a look at this brand when he needs a new one. Thanks for the video! (and to think I came here looking for Dyson Eye videos. Subscribed!)
Its ok to ride, but complaining - there is always someone who likes to complain about something, so would imagine at some point someone would complain. The area's are pretty remote, and would probably ride in a pattern as to allow the land to not get to chewed up.
the lack of noise is a huge part of me wanting one. stealthy riding at anytime, even early morning/late night, ripping through the woods near houses without waking people up or pissing people off. also urban riding with no noise/smoke etc, again- stealth and also being considerate of others peace & quiet. great review!
for trial buy electric motion ... for good mx buy redshift from alta motors ... for road and offroad and technical riding buy zero fx !!!(its the quitest one with the belt)
Hello. Can you say in 2019, what is now your feeling on this bike? Wheat about the batteries and did you change some pieces due to failure? Regard and thx for the video!
Nice review. In future cover the whole thing in tire shine when it’s spotless. Do this before hitting the mud. Will wash down so much easier and repels mud stains :) especially obvious on black plastics!
At the risk of repeating what someone else has asked... I noticed there was no more mention after this video of the EM when you first got it. (The promised vid' on how to grease the bearing etc). Then you were recording about your experiences on a Montesa 4RT. So what was the conclusion after having the EM for a bit? I'm considering an EM, so keen to know if you decided it was not for you, and if so, why? Thanks in anticipation.
@@RealLifeGadgetReviews Thanks, good to know your reasoning. It'd make a great follow-up video by the way, your experiences of whether power-wise you could compare it to the mid or top end power of maybe a 175, 200 etc. In case no-one says it, thanks for all the effort you put into your videos, nice to get good, unbiased and as per your title, 'real life' reporting.
It depends on several factors really. If ridden not at its max all the time it will do several hours of riding which is impressive. If its flat out across mores then its likely to run down a lot quicker.
hey man just a few quick questions. Have you since done the bearings and was there a difference? also how long do you get to a full charge? have you had any trouble with land owners? great review by the way.
Sorry just saw this. Still not done the bearings, have bought them, just not got around to it! No problems at all with land owners (its forestry land, and not causing a nuisance so seems to be ok). Full charge with the upgraded charger is around 2 hours.
Does it have the snap to perform gap jumps, Jap zap, splat? Not a knock on your skill, but I didn't see any lift. You mentioned you didn't use the clutch much, only throttle control. So Does the clutch allow you to rev and pop the clutch to do those maneuvers? Enjoyed your video, well done.
would love to get one of these bikes but cant find any second hand, I would be interested in hearing how your bike is now. and how big a job the bearing change was.
I'm certain it was, but that paint job reminds me of stolen bikes. The overspray on everything is painful. Do you still have it, sort the bearings in the end?
Hi! Love the video, but I'm just curious how long the battery holds. I checked some specs and it says like 50-150 minutes, and here it seem to go for hours. Is it really suitable for long time riding? Sorry if I'm asking something you discussed in the vid, english is not my native languege and i cant get everything when listening. Cheers from Bulgaria
Thanks for watching, it depends on use. It does last me hours, because I am not doing long riding stretches. If you use it or Trials sections, it will last ages. If you are flat out on the road / trails then yes the times you gave sound right.
i tried the em 5.7 during 2 hours and it is really impressive... i have no skills in trials, only ride sometimes a ty 125 older than i am. this bike is all about torque. i don't find it extremely silent. the guy following me during the test had a 125 scorpa, to me less noisy. by the way are you sure yours is belt driven? they changed the primary from chain to belt but don't know when. time to as boots for christmas ! enjoy this bike and the place you ride in...
Owner said its belt, assume it is, its 2015 model apparently. Will soon find out when I go to do the bearings :) There will also be a video on how I get on with doing that job as its quite a big one, lots of stuff needs to come out to accomplish the supposed easy task of actually swapping them out.
Real Life Gadget Reviews ok, can't wait to see other videos. what is your opinion regarding max speed? the one I tried was set on trek mode and was not really fast (not 50kph for sure, but I did not turned it in trial mode). bye
I'm a tough critic. Looks really impressive, you also look like a decent rider Ian. Well done, one of your better videos :) is the bike heavy? Does it regen anything on downhills?
Thanks Mark. Its around sub 80kg, so not very heavy really! Regen is available downhill, but its really harsh, so on mud it just skids out the back tire. Can only be used on really dry ground / tarmac and if your weight is over the backend, even then its so harsh you come to a standstill almost straight away.
+Mark Perrin Can be road legal yeah. Can get a light kit etc. Only option is to stuff it in the Leaf (if the only car you can choose from is a Leaf) - not allowed to fit a tow bar according to manual :) Trials has always been difficult to practice, as not allowed anywhere - but with this, you can go almost anywhere as you are not bothering anyone with any noticeable noise :)
new its E8k over here for the race model . used its allready below E5k.. and makes you happy for years .. it really makes a huge difference without an engine ... this way nobody is looking down on you ever ..

Cheers! Yeah just 2 mins away, down a path and its all fun!
"Be careful Daddy!" I love that. You are a blessed man my friend. Great video.
Cheers! Kids are great!

Congrats on the purchase. I wonder if your bearings have gone the same way as my (allegedly) have, and once replaced will be much quieter?
I had found the manual that you are showing in your vid, but after I struggled to figure out the proper sequence of connecting the battery charger, I was turned on to this link for the user's manual, which is different.

great video with realistic impressions on the capability of the bike. I wish there was a similar video with the adult Oset24 bike to compare.
Wish I had the cash to get the Oset, then I would do a review :) Thanks for watching!

Lol, brilliant! Yeah this things a beast, and a little cheaper than some of the others coming on the market.
What's happened to your EM I see your on a 4RT now, Any major issues with the EM before you got rid of it?
Hi Ian, is it ok to ride without anyone complaining in those woods?
Its ok to ride, but complaining - there is always someone who likes to complain about something, so would imagine at some point someone would complain. The area's are pretty remote, and would probably ride in a pattern as to allow the land to not get to chewed up.

Riding this bike in your local woods is just as illegal as using a petrol one and attracts the same penalties.
for trial buy electric motion ... for good mx buy redshift from alta motors ... for road and offroad and technical riding buy zero fx !!!(its the quitest one with the belt)
Except for the noise pollution and oil contamination in the streams.

It lacked punch in terms of mid to top end power for me, ran out a little to early. I still have it.

You've done a few trials I can see, no slouch, could it do the Loch Lomand?

Yes, main from the fact that an electric motor can give 100% torque from stand still, no ramping up needed.
Nice bit of ridding! i love playing around in the woods on my Ebike! what part of the country are you?
Awesome, which bike do you have? I am from Gloucestershire.
I built my own using a Vector frame, but I'm planning to get a proper e-trials bike, looks much like Devon where I am
would love to get one of these bikes but cant find any second hand, I would be interested in hearing how your bike is now. and how big a job the bearing change was.
Its doing really well to be fair. Bearing change was a difficult, but done now. Its still pretty noise though!
Real Life Gadget Reviews can you make another video about bearing?
Real Life Gadget Reviews im going to buy one 2015 as you and i need to know how to maintain bearings
Was this thing stolen?
That spray job :-/
As per video, purchased
I'm certain it was, but that paint job reminds me of stolen bikes. The overspray on everything is painful. Do you still have it, sort the bearings in the end?
did you sell this bike? were you getting what the manufacturer claimed out of the battery?
Still have it, hardly ever use it though as now have the 4RT (see channel videos), but was getting a good hour or so riding.
Hi Ian whee did you buy the em from and how much did you pay ? Really interested in one of these but worried about where I can ride it
I got it second hand around an hours drive away.
Hi nice video. What year is the bike?
2015 I believe.
Can we see an update on this bike please if you still own it.
Yes still own it ;) Its currently in bits - simple bearing replacement on the motor.
how fast is it and do you need license for it or it's just like el bicykel
It does around 45 mile per hour I think. In this country you would certainly need a full bike license due to its power yes.

Top speed not great, around 30mph it feels approx.
Would you buy a petrol one now ???
See: th-cam.com/video/waqEGcEv1Tw/w-d-xo.html might answer the question 😬
Would you sell your bike .
I'm in the UK. Would you sell your em. ??
Not at the moment thanks! :)
That's exactly what I want!
Its a brilliant bit of kit!
No noise and no moaning walkers, thats what i like about e trails or any ebike.
True!
Trials bikes and trainers .............. It'll end in tears
Glad to inform you..no tears over the 8 hours of testing :) Mould almost cleaned of ye old boots.

Real Life Gadget Reviews does that mean you basically turn off the regen and ride without it?
Ah, no, regen is accessed by a push of the button on the switch on the bar, pressed its on, not pressed NO regen.
Real Life Gadget Reviews I'm guessing it's not road legal. I'm not sure I'd want to jam it in my leaf to get it to my local Forest for a play.

what is the god awful noise that thing makes ?
namanya trilnya apa
Hi
How much did u give for it,?
£3200 I think from memory.
if they'd come down in price they would sell
new its E8k over here for the race model . used its allready below E5k.. and makes you happy for years .. it really makes a huge difference without an engine ... this way nobody is looking down on you ever ..
He stalled it ;)
There is another bonus to it!
What the hell is a 'dek-ul'???
No idea.
aws
Thanks!
