This was a curious fact because, in comparison, few civilians were harmed by the rioting which also left businesses in the area relatively unscathed. Yet, there was little attempt by the government and the government-appointed COI to explain why supposedly drunk rioters were so discriminating in their choice of targets.
In fact, the indian workers are very hard working people. I feel sad this type of situation occur in Singapore. Depression is one factor contributing to this riot.I wish everyone live in harmony and not to hate one another. Amen
😂
Singaporeans are more sad to see this situation where the Indian workers took matters into their hands which they should have just called the police. They made Singaporeans depressed.I wish they will not make the same mistake again and let Singaporeans live in peace and harmony without such riots.
@@Noh-gg8ce I fully agree 👍
Hardwork in drinking todi
The bus driver and time keeper are not innocent too. There is no justice.
For many years social groups have raised the issues and advocate the plight of migrant workers but it has fallen upon deaf years.Residents in that area has also voiced out their concerns for many years but the government has refused to listen hence this was time bomb bound to happen. Our politicians need to wear hearing aids.
Come here don't abide to our laws. Locals here also one kind, treat FW with no respect.
Most people in SG do respect foreign workers & the government gives them redress & investigates any ill treatment & makes employers compensate them thats why many like to go to SG to work 🙂
@@Bekindloveis exactly. Well then they jolly well respect our laws and our way of life then.
They know what they've signed up for.
@@Nubz111 agree 👍🏻
When the Little India riot occurred,
the government, whilst asking the public not to speculate on possible causes, quickly postulated that liquor was a primary factor, possibly to divert attention away from causes which may suggest culpability on the part of the government.
What sort of culpability do u mean?
@@Bekindloveis For many years social groups have raised the issues and advocate the plight of migrant workers but it has fallen upon deaf years.Residents in that area has also voiced out their concerns for many years but the government has refused to listen hence this was time bomb bound to happen. Our politicians need to wear hearing aids. The migrant wokers have very little place to go to chill and relax and it common to find lots of them drunk and urine was everywhere. After this incident then the govt starting looking into it. Even the overcrowding of the dorm, the govt also did not heed the attention raised by social groups then covid happen and the cramped and unhygenic conditions resulted in huges number of foreign workers falling ill. It always take a sad casse then someone up there will start to listen and start looking at the issues, same thing with the SMRT China bus drivers back in 2012 (I think) over lodging and various issues with SMRT in which the HR and management chose to ignore and hence these China bus drivers went on a strike.
Police leadership failed - according to the Committee of Inquiry chaired by retired Police Commissioner Tee Tua Bah. The senior officer did not show initiative. Very shameful for the SPF. Both leadership and Balls were missing.
I thought the Police & SDF even the brave CISCO officers handled the situation very well
The ground officers did what they had to do given the limitations and challenges faced.
The blame ought to lie with the commanders at the time for poor judgment of the situation and the force not wanting to be perceived as too excessive against rioters.
Any further and some toxic idiot might wrongfully frame it as a race issue.
The police did their best and gain everything under control by midnight. If they had no leadership and bravery, the riot might have continued till the next morning. They might have escaped like in other countries. You should be thankful to the saf for stopping this in just 2 hours. Also, based on another video, the police continued forward dispite being hit by projectiles.
@@skywaterflowokay but SAF was involved. I thought it was Special Operation Command(SOC). Nevertheless, let's thank SPF and SOC as well as SAF if they did help for stopping the riot in 2 hours and let's hope it won't happen again.
@@Bekindloveisthe first few responders did their jobs well, held their positions until their unreliable backup came 30mins later. Disgraceful.

Though the riot was triggered by the tragic death of an Indian migrant worker whose dead body was pinned under a bus, two hours later when the mayhem ended, 30 police and civil defence vehicles and ambulances had been damaged by rioters and over 40 police, civil defence and auxiliary officers were injured.
Not many people are blacking up their faces for Christmas parties anymore too.
The man was drunk, was removed from the bus and he then chased after the bus drunk, then fell and died. It the bus driver fault, but the drunk man.
In an instance of extreme naivety, Law and Foreign Minister K. Shanmugam met with foreign workers in a dormitory and, having asked the nervous workers point blank if they were unhappy with work conditions in Singapore, happily concluded that resentment was not a factor in the riot.
As if they will destroy their metal bowl, for berries...
What a sham!
Strangely, >95% of SG’s initial ( b4 it was declared Pandemic ) Covid Numbers came from Helpless Foreigners, mostly in Dormitories scattered across the Island . Subsequently, once Numbers Bolstered, then Scandalous PE17 President was Quick to Authorise Draining Reserves … ie. Coincidence, Engineered, Phenomena ? 🤔🤓
The SG Government Operates no Different from a Criminal Enterprise… Must not forget that in 2010 , LKY was Caught Red Handed and Paraded at Singapore Sikh Police Temple like a Common Street Criminal… KARMA
So people now cannot drink outside because of this?
Yes
Imagine responding to a traffic accident like that.
Probably the Ceca problem...
PAP responsible for this.
No. The riot is caused because of a fatal accident.
🙏 Alcohol intoxication is the main cause of many fighting , rioting , stabbing & shooting incidences in many countries! 🕯🌎
What'd the woman do?
In another 5 to 7 years, Singaporean workers will be migrating to neighboring cities. At present we have lots of Singaporeans in Australia doing labor work and delivering food.
No. Singapore is an ideal location for most Singaporeans and non-residents to live and work in. Based on a report conducted by The Singapore Government, Singapore's population is increasing and has almost reach 6 million because of a rise in non-residents and most Singaporeans that had came back from overseas after covid. If you don't believe me, you can ckeck out Population In Brief 2023.
What, what? Singaporeans working as labourers at Australia...?
Laborer jobs make more money then teaching jobs. When you become truly developed, life is upside down
The riot police engaged Chee Soon Juan and gang rather well.
pls sack those OC incharge .. thatz the problem if u install OC who are the PAP geng... i bet they r really incompetent..
The place name as little India. So the foreign workers make the place like their own. Should change that name
Police wasn't prepared then. Quite embarrassing.
The SCDF & police were well trained & handled the situation well it could have escalated worse
Yes, they are well trained. The situation could have escalated worse. Some might escapes like in other countries. The riot could have even continued till the morning without the police well trained.
Lmao... Response is soo "fast" and so "proud" 😂
Doesn’t explain why purchasing alcohol at night is banned nationwide
In fact, as if to confirm this sensitivity to blame, the government reacted angrily to an article in the New York Times, headlined “Singapore’s angry migrant workers”, complaining vehemently that the article “offered scant evidence” of discontent.
Its true the NYT made comment not backed by facts
They were very unhappy that tomorrow need to work and see the stupid supervisor face. So they decided to create havoc!

This happened 10 years ago. The matter was closed. Why must it be revived? It is no benefit to anyone.
Its to remind foreign workers not to anyhow riot in SG
As if they read the straits times which had four pages of it for two days or watch this video.

Yeah they use guns, we use baton n shield, we respect human lives. People are real strange , one hand complains law enforcer poilice brutality, the other hand advocating harsh crackdown.
What do you expect a small group of police to deal with 400 plus rioters? Think before you say. You call 400 plus rioters as a small group? Singapore police are well trained. The reason why you see group of police officers in Singapore arresting criminals is because for safety. Better safe than injured. Yes, Singapore police cannot handle huge group of rioters, that's why the Special Operation Command(SOC) is activated because they are more well trained.
