  • A cast on one of my favorite Spanish/Basque wines that doesn’t get the attention it deserves. Here's the link I promised to the posts on Fringe Wine covering Hondarrabi Zuri and Noah:

I tell anyone who will listen about you... I think you're a true asset to those who study and I'm so glad you take the time to spread your knowledge publicly. Much love!

We had this wine today and it was really enjoyable! It was Etxaniz Txakolina Zuri 2016, 100% Hondarrabi Zuri, with 7.4 g/l sugar. Very crispy, with tiny bubles and no taste of sugar, and yes, very food friendly! Thank you very much for such useful hint! I put this wine in my wine list for future drinking! Cheers!

Cool! This helped! This area came up in my WSET Diploma studies after a long slog through the rest of Spain and I though "Never heard of it!" SO this really helped!

Hi, Unknown Winecaster, as usual a brilliant, intelligent, informative and educational video! We tried a Hondarabi Zurri at ENECO (the Basque Michelin star chef) in London, it was very balanced, slightly oaked, very elegant with his squid and fish dishes. No one talks about these grapes let alone about the wines, and I am doing SWET level 3 in Wines!

Marvellous marvellous marvellous. Glad for the video putting forth the good word of Txacoli(na) :) Also, nice use of Txomin Etxaniz; one of my absolute faves - we did it for the Getaria episode of our Spanish Wine Experience podcast.
In my research I found the name may have come from the word 'etxakoa' which meant 'homemade' as the wine was made in the farm homes. That evolved to “etxakon”, “txakon” and finally “txakolin”. But who knows really.
    Salud sir! And happy drinking!

Thanks! I really love Txomin Etxaniz, it's consistently been my favorite in the fairly crowded field of Txakolis I've tried. I'm sure there's a much bigger variety of producers available in Spain but thank goodness they made it over here! Happy drinking to you, too, and thanks, as always, for watching and being such a great friend of the channel. Cheers!

Thanks a lot for this video! I discovered this wine 🍷 one month ago in Bilbao and I am in love with it. And pintxos of course 😅

Thank you very much for the post. Hope will have a chance to try it. Do you consider to make new video on Mencia or you already did and I just missed it?

Mencía is so closely associated with Bierzo that I thought I might cover it when I get around to covering that region. Since other DOs do use it, a dedicated cast might be interesting. I'll give it some thought. Thanks for the suggestion. Cheers!

Thanks! My favorite producer is Txomin Etxaniz, but I have yet to have a bad Txakolina. Please let me know about their availability in the Netherlands. I'm always curious about how wine gets distributed among European countries. Cheers!
