Looking back on this 7 years later, it’s an awesome memory. This was the first time any of us had played in front of an audience. I could not stop shaking my damn leg the whole time and couldn’t let myself look at the audience either. I had to pee like 30 times before the performance out of nervousness. I still make my own music, but the band is no longer and ended probably a year or so after this performance. Still very close friends with one of the guys, and keep in touch with the other two here and there. Everyone’s off doing different things but music is still a big part of my life, and I have a few original songs up on my channel. Thanks for the all the comments
I have a bad singing voice and was wondering if your voice was always that good or you had to learn to sing good. I hope it’s something I can improve with practice I would love to be able to sing
Well onto 20 years past my HS bands now, it happens in a hurry. Literally feels like yesterday. You guys really captured something here, the intro started off as potentially questionable for what was to come - but it was heroic the way you all settled into the groove, and midway through the song as a listener you were just enjoying the music, not thinking of it in the context of a talent show band (which can so easily go wrong for any number of reasons technical or talent)... At any rate, it's a great moment you guys captured here. I really think Billy would be proud of this if he saw it: it represents the innocence that his own music had at that point in his career, and an ambitious take at that.
When you're 42 and a judge at a talent show and hear this, you immediately nod to the other 40 something year old judges and they nod back. "Gentlemen, I think we've found our winners" "Indeed sir" "Indeed!"
Oh yeah, here we go. Such a phenomenal cover of one of SP's (in my opinion) best songs in their catalog. "Can anybody hear me? I just want to be me...well when I can, I will."
I want to comment BEFORE I hear them perform. This is one of my favorite songs in my whole life (I’m 42), and I have low expectations. I hope they prove me wrong. Edit: Wow! These kids did a great job! I hope Billy has seen this. I’m glad these guys shared this song with their peers. Awesome job guys!
Seems to be a lot of us 42 year olds commenting.. 🤣 Best song ever written. Has an emotional element to it that cannot be explained. This and "Drown" are just on another level.
Dude, for the 1st time you played in front of an audience...that was incredible!. Seen the SP in concert for their 1st 4 albums. Billy would be proud of u if he seen this. Props
Bet you half the people in the audience if not most don’t even know or can’t even appreciate this song to the fullest that it deserves. Either way, well done guys!
10th grader here. I'm going to play this song solo on guitar in a café. As part of the school curriculum. This is a beautiful song, and you four have made it justice. If anyone's wondering, I take piano, not guitar. Still good at both.
These were about the only dudes I knew who were into this kind of music. And they coincidentally happened to be some of my best friends. Most people were blaring Drake and Justin Bieber or whatever lol
I was wondering how y'all would pull it off, but you nailed it! If you did a two-fer, you could've opened with Talent Show by the Replacements and had Mayonnaise as the encore!
@aidansr2791 I absolutely love when younger folks appreciate the music I loved and still love from my youth. :D I saw Pumpkins in '93 do this and one of my fave songs of theirs. Great job!
Hes right though. I'm happy to see these young guys play a kick ass song but the singer needed to practice those lead lines a bit more and to a metronome
Wow, that's pretty good! Even the singer's voice sounds like Billy! FYI, it seems the drums don't sound right ( too much background noise?). Probably the Mic or just the recording? Great job!!
Back here and commenting again: I genuinely prefer this to the original purely based on the vocals being better! 😂 The Smashing Pumpkins were one of the best bands of the 90s/early 00s and Mellon Collie the greatest rock achievement of the 90s. That said, Billy Corgan had/has a voice akin to bagpipes trying to mate with an accordion. Some clean, clear, melodic singing in an echoing assembly hall with barely any sound production (especially the drums which sound as though the kit is being thrown down a flight of stairs 😅) really highlights that weakness.
Love this. Great job, guys! Like others have said, they just need a good sound engineer as the drums were too loud and the lead guitar wasn’t loud enough so it was hard to hear the melody.
thats pretty damm good boys you nailed even with the tone of the guitar some big muff/Fuzz pedal and a phaser that orange one that billy used in sd and mcis would be great do some eq stuff before playing bc drums are so noisy and guitars sound are kind flat and with low volumen but its really great one, last thing the arpegios in this song should to be played more softly nice job, (sorry if i sound like an annoying bitch its just i love sp and i notice when things are great but could have done better)
Rock Music Fan 2002 Fan how can you criticize something when it’s recorded from a phone speaker? If you’re trying to be cool by showing what you think you know. You failed
jimmy's drums is hard to cover first of all....they just need to slow down...just felt rushed. the singer did pretty good actually...but when its rushed its hard to get emotion out
Did anyone other than the older teachers have a clue what song that was? I guess maybe their dad's wanted them to learn and play this song. They did a great job regardless.

Honestly this is really wholesome.
Thank you
I’m in a band my senior year of high school I’m having a blast. I’m just scared it won’t last forever. Your music and vocals are amazing.

BEEF
I need people like this to go to my high school
We were kinda shitheads but it was fun playing in a band together :D
The young ones covering a perfect song released before their time. There is hope in this world
do me a favor and never say this corny shit again

"Indeed!"
42 here & concur. 🤣 Just by choosing one of the greatest songs ever written is an automatic win.
A decent sound engineer away from being amazing
crazy thing is these guys weren't even born yet when this song came out
Not really
@@grubber nice name and pfp

"Can anybody hear me? I just want to be me...well when I can, I will."
nice job. reminded me of my HS talent show in '83, we covered devo, satisfaction.
thank you very much, it must be quite something to look back at those times!
🤣🤣🤣👍

@@2000jago I was thinking the same thing. Not poorly played, but could stand to take it back a few BPM. (P.S. ....I'm 43)
@@Kevin-fj3ol 42 here. I listen to this with my 1 year old daughter before she goes to bed every night. This song is on another level.
Good to see a younger generation preform a great song. I was in my early 20s when this song came out. Nice job, guys. Great memories
The guitar intro makes my hair stand. It's that good. Great song.

Good song choice, and good job playing it. Thank you for introducing this to another generation of kids.
Here in 2024. The Pumpkins were my time man. This is awesome 🤝
great song to cover. good job
no matter who performs this song ITS AWESOME. well done and nice vocals too.
NIce cover. I like how the lead singer doesn't tries to copy/ impersonate the original vocal.
10th grader here. I'm going to play this song solo on guitar in a café. As part of the school curriculum. This is a beautiful song, and you four have made it justice.
If anyone's wondering, I take piano, not guitar. Still good at both.
Those drums sound massive. I love it
Excellent! Brings me back 45 years to my high school band!
This was perfect! Great cover
man this makes so happy, brings back so many memories
You young men did this justice! Thank you for bringing up such a hard hitting memory for me!
pumpkins 4ever! great cover guys!
Antonio Rabasco thanks alot antonio!
there is hope.
Wow to cover a song like that at a talent show and pull it off so well. I’m a sophomore and I wish I had friends that could play to start a band with.
yeah frll. It's hard enough to even find people around this age that listen to this kinda music lol
These were about the only dudes I knew who were into this kind of music. And they coincidentally happened to be some of my best friends. Most people were blaring Drake and Justin Bieber or whatever lol
Same man no one listens to this stuff anymore, let alone want to start a band
Love S.P, love this song congrats 👏👏👏👏..
The chords are played wrong. But they were young and didn’t realize Corgan and Iha had alternate tunings.
he has a v pretty voice tbh
You guys did a phenomenal job on one of my favorite songs
this is some real good talent ngl
I was wondering how y'all would pull it off, but you nailed it! If you did a two-fer, you could've opened with Talent Show by the Replacements and had Mayonnaise as the encore!
WTH??? I was thinking the exact same thing!
this is awesome! love the pumpkins!! i wanna do this when i get to high school too!
How come I'm just now seeing this
Fantastic, amazing performance.
Amazing!
I remember covering Today and Disarm in high school back in 2011
@aidansr2791 I absolutely love when younger folks appreciate the music I loved and still love from my youth. :D I saw Pumpkins in '93 do this and one of my fave songs of theirs. Great job!
front man is going places, nice work guys
Good job guys.
thank you :)
For a minute, I thought I saw Billy Corgan wearing shorts and that’s never happened before.
Nope straight from pants to a dress like a good little girl
Better singer than Billy!
Pretty great
thanks alot man!
My band played this at our talent show in the 90s
someone get these kids a metronome
Thanks sir!
BurtSampson its a very hard drum beat
BurtSampson such an @$$
Hes right though. I'm happy to see these young guys play a kick ass song but the singer needed to practice those lead lines a bit more and to a metronome

beautiful.

Not very many that take on Mayonnaise. Good stuff!!
Boy did this take a lot of guts you guys killed it!!
Awesome 🤘
Wow, just Wow!
Great job guys! 😎.
Great cover guys👍🏻

Fucking awesome
What did the dude in the middle do all performance?
Play bass??
fuck yea!
When i can i will
excellent cover, but I cant hear the bass at all :(
The music is out of the mood that the music proposes

sounds good well done but turn your guitars up!

Killer
I like your voice better that Billy's lol
he has no emotion in his singing
billy does
you like to just shit on everyone dont you alec. saw you on the other video
@@fufuman27 Billy's voice is fucking annoying
Why is it in every talent show the band always plays the song way to damn fast
Even most famous bands play faster live
Probably because we were like 14 years old, first time ever playing in front of people and absolutely terrified
Nerves for sure, performing is no easy feat
The snare sounds to tight, the guitars are too quiet, and the vocals dont have passion. ps just some critisism, not hate.

Don’t think any of the teachers even knew the song. It was my idea
The only dudes that mattered in that graduating class in my opinion.
Awful 😂😂😂
Thanks king, my 14 year old heart is broken
