People always say “the book is better,” and that’s usually true, with a few exceptions. The Color Purple, though? It’s best when you read the book so many times that the pages are held together by sheer determination....then watch the movie just as many times.....and if you’re lucky, you had a chance to see the play. Alice Walker is absolute legend
I was paying too much attention to the fact that this movie was just so freaking awesome and the actors were phenomenal. I didn't notice any of those things. It's cool to see these little details that I missed though

Same here. We never even saw them anymore. At least I didn't notice. Except for Harpo. I'm guessing when they grew up, they moved away.

@4:56 No mistake, it was meant to be seen as an imaginary scene, going back to her childhood and her throwing candy to her "YOUNG" sister as if they were still kids, of course they would have to manipulate the scene into her collecting the candy in one spot, so how can she collect the candy for the scene it if it's scattered everywhere ?

Lol. It was a lot of mistakes in “The Color Purple” I guess cause the movie so long and it took them a long to film it 🤷🏽♂️🥴 it’s still an all time favorite and always be a classic! #Blackclassic💯🔥
My grandfather worked on this movie. It only took three months. That’s pretty standard.

I always noticed Oprah's arm moving. I think she was tyrna cover herself..
Her character was tough so just because that officer hit her doesnt necessarily mean she was knocked out but just stunned, briefly dazed, if you will!🤔 That's why are arm moved, I believe! She wasn't fully out of it!
I agree. I always thought she was trying to cover herself. Still one of my fav movies (bloopers and all).

Ya gotta see fight/knockout compilations people seizure and move.
People in professional fighting can seem to be conscious still standing and punching actually knocked out.
I think it was meant for her husband to try to kiss her. It's just showing no one really cared. They were happy she finally married and she is still in control. I also knew they couldn't use a real baby in that freezing cold so it didnt matter. Also I don't get the arrow pointing in the back of Whoopie's hair. It's suppose to be braids. It was that length in the movie. A person can tuck the braid in and sometimes it comes loose. Natural for the scene. When I looked again I noticed the part where her Father-in-law was drinking...Celie's hair in the front was pinned up. When he finished...her hair in the front was one braid on the side. The arrow was pointing in the back though.

It was the front porch and the back porch the front of the house was shown again when she left with shug and her new husband also when creole and mister ran to the front of their house looking for shug when they went out to greet her
Maybe the red tie turning blue was symbolic?? He respectfully showed up smiling on his horse, but if Mr. wasn’t the devil himself..
It was a great movie mistakes and all. They were cheated out of their academy awards!!!!

Yes! I could've done without that distracting music. Color Purple is still my favorite movie. The mistakes are interesting though.
There mistakes in every movie. So what nothing or nobody is perfect.. The movie is still loved and will go down in history

You left one mistake out. At the dinner table, Whoopi added her daughter to the table. She was sitting next to her. The high yellow little girl. Producers sometimes have a person taking notes on each scene to avoid mistakes like those.

@@candicehalison6065 Except it's always two story on the inside because we constantly see an upstairs and downstairs. Like most people have suggested, we were just seeing the back of the house that had a different structure.

Harpo was trying to kiss her but her family took her away. It was intentional. Scripted or added later. They were already jumping up to get her. So no it wasn't accidental. Its choreographed that way.
We anticipate Misters Father drinking that water so much because Celie spit in it.
wven tho a few changes were done it is truely an exquisite move of Love, deception, and uniqueness.

So although it looks as if the porch wrapped around the front of the house in most of the movie but the front porch in the opening scene ,is actually the front porch. It has a wrap around driveway which she leave from at the end of the movie. It's also the front porch that Shug Avery first makes her appearance being brought home drunk from the Juke Joint. The rest of the movie was filmed in the back yard
Yep. Whoever uploaded this video was trying a bit too much with a lot of their points. I already knew that much of the film was around the back porch and back yard. The uploader must don't know much about living in the country and how much land there is between houses.

One of the best movies ever (a masterpiece).
A mistake I noticed also is when Shug read that first letter that Nettie wrote, in the letter she referred to Mister as "Albert," but she wasn't around when Celie found out his actual name. Also in the letter she said something about him being the only one to take mail out the box, but Nettie was gone when Mister told Celie the mailbox was "his business." Another thing, didn't look like any of Mister's children age except Harpo😂.
Correct. I noticed the mailbox mistake before. She wouldn't have known that.
Nettie got the mail from his mailbox while staying with them and she could read so she could have seen his name there....hypothetically speaking course, lol

There’s also mistakes in “Waiting to Exhale” when Loretta Divine was talking with Giancarlo Esposito when her earrings are different or missing in the scene when she’s facing him and the camera is behind her.
I think they pulled Sophia away on purpose. That was no mistake.
You missed at least one mistake. When Mr. was coming down the stairs to see greet his father after Shug arrived, his shirt changed color!
Lolll that was very fun to watch , very interesting 🤔. This movie is still a classic though, a real masterpiece. I enjoy the video ❤️ 🙏🏾

This video is right up my alley too. I was just watching a new show on the OWN channel called Delilah. Excellent show so far, but I noticed in 4 scenes, back-to-back, ( in ep 5) 3 characters started out wearing black rubber gloves, but those same characters kept switching from black gloves to white plastic gloves, in each scene. I couldn’t believe how obvious it was🤣
True story - when the internet first started in the late 90's, the most popular sites (that weren't p*rn) were "movie mistake" sites.
I can't believe Oprah was in her twenties during the filming of this movie. She looks 45 in the beginning then 85 at the end of the movie.

I’ve always noticed Oprah covering herself after getting knocked out, but didn’t notice any of the other ones. This was cool
Yeah my glass better have frost on it too! After I call cut, so they can come grab the glass with the room temperature water and spit in it, and swap it out with another glass with ice cold water in it. Because mentally I would still think I am drinking Celie's spit. And I need to see the spit glass somewhere behind the camera, as a matter of fact, I'll fix my own cold water, now let' finish the scene. I noticed the house one for many years, I kept saying that is a totally different house, that porch is too small. The wedding scene was meant to be like that where Harpo kept trying to kiss Sophia, but it wasn't his day in their eyes, it was about the bride and the baby, same thing in 2023 just about, lol. I never noticed mista's tie tho until you pointed it out. Probably a different day of filming and they forgot that detail of the color of the tie.
Every movie I watch with my kids and we use to point out all the mistakes miss that. Thanks for sharing.

Guess I was watching the magnificence of the movie that I didn't notice the small, insignificance of mistakes. And by the way, most movies have them. Do you have a video showing NO mistakes? That would be interesting.
I always wondered why they wrote out the sister(s) of Harpo that Ceely was combing the hair of prior to Mister slapping her. They were never seen or mentioned (at least one of them) after Harpo’s and Sofia’s wedding.
I always wondered about that too, even the first time I saw the movie- really irritated me. What happened to all those sisters?
Oh I did notice some of these! But I didn't care cause it's one of my MOST favorite movies of ALL time! And it's a CLASSIC! 😁
The porch just expanded from the heat of summer. It was shown first in winter you see. I was contracted. Porches react that way to cold all the time. :)
"You told Harpo to beat me " scene...Sophia referenced Harpo is Celie's son-in-law, but he actually would be her stepson.

one of the mistakes is that everybody haven´t read the book, lots of things missed there, although the books greatness is the same as the movies greatness

A hat for the little girl, the tie color changes, pennies on the track and dot is off the album.
Danny Glover...Mister wearing the blue tie and then red tie were two different days. He asked the dad to marry Nettie with the blue tie and that was even before Celie moved in. So the red tie chasing Nettie would have been quite a ways apart.
And is still a classic 💜
