I have started medication which has reduced my hair by a third already and will continue to do so. You being so honest about your alopecia and mentioning it sometimes really makes me feel less alone. And thank you for being so lovely as always.
♥️ glad it helps. Also, I have no idea what my brain is doing with time. It’s definitely been seven years, not four 🙈 I think the early part of the 2020s just doesn’t exist time-wise in my brain x
Learning so much from videos like this which helps with my new channell. Hope the new baby doesn't give you to many sleepless nights. I remember those day well.
Dear Jen, thanks for making the effort to film videos again. It is really appreciated as you are one of the TH-camrs I follow from whom I pick up the best book recommendations 😅. Take care🙏🏻❤️
Lovely to see you again! I can't wait to get hold of Private Rites. Your chat about the garden made me laugh, I resonate so much. I'm an artist and often film and take photos in one tiny corner of my room which look very photogenic with plants and framed work. Behind is a collapsing wardrobe, the ironing board and every item of DIY my husband throws in there 😆 it's utter chaos. I guess we all do it!
Scream, and never stop screaming. Oh god, I need to read this immediately. I find your book recs so good, and your backlist mentions show me stuff I may have missed which I appreciate. I have never leaned into a disability persona despite autism, because it’s such a stigma here in Australia. But I just got diagnosed with glaucoma and will probably be blind in a decade so yay. That said, I’m really pleased with your disability visibility and just…. I don’t know what to say. I just appreciate it. Also I’ve heard so many bad reviews of fragile animals. I’ve read half and I actually like it.
I think this is maybe only the second year that I've really had an eye on new releases, but I definitely think I'm getting better at being able to predict what I'll have success with. I didn't enjoy Private Rites as much as Our Wives, but that was a very high bar. Was really looking forward to James by Percival Everett and I loved that one. So glad you got back to the heath!
Loved hearing your thoughts on Butter. I read it recently as well and agree with so much of what you said. The food descriptions were so good and I loved the descriptions of place. It was very atmospheric. But I agree with you that the story got lost by the end (I don’t even remember the end very well?!) and the side plots were too big. I wish she had done the friend story as a separate short story. Overall, I had the feeling of “where is this going?” And not in a good way. lol.
So happy to see your video pop up! I am currently watching with my 5-month-old sleeping by my side, absolute heaven. Thanks so much for your wonderful content and all the best to you and your family! ❤
Foxes really are so sneaky! I live in the suburbs in Victoria, Australia and I would never have expected foxes to live here but we've had several sightings over the years and received unwelcome gifts from them too (eg. poop right on the welcome mat). Hope the damage to the garden wasn't too bad! Great video! Interesting to hear about your complicated thoughts on Butter in particular. I'm sure it's not to your taste, lol, but one of my most anticipated books for the year was Merciful Saviors by H.E. Edgmon and I really enjoyed it!
Loved hearing about these. The story about the fox in the garden was funny. I didn't know they could jump like that. And meeting that family with EEC syndrome on the train like that sounds like such a lovely surprise, with you not leaving the house except for appointments. On a short story kick at the moment, so reading some George Saunders while dipping in and out of The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton. Excited for your Booker reading vlog!
So glad to hear that you loved the beginning of the new Jan Carson collection. I have had it on my list for a while but held off due to mixed reviews. I’m all in now hearing your thoughts and have just ordered it! I so loved her book The Last Resort.
Thanks for putting this together, it made for good Sunday evening viewing :) I’m excited to read Private Rites, and I also have Monstrum lined up (picked it up wholly on the cover, and then was intrigued to see it was a short story collection and incorporated disability). Today I picked up The Echoes and Rare Singles, because I feel like reading a couple of books just as they’re due out (mainly to avoid having to choose between the rest of the books I have piled up!). Looking forward to The Echoes, especially based on the bits I read in the bookshop, and got Rare Singles mainly because of the Scarborough setting (having grown up in Blackpool, I’m drawn to seaside settings in books, particularly as I haven’t been back there for 15 years - I’m a bit nostalgic for the seaside, and also care deeply about the communities and people who live there). Im tempted to take a look at Fragile Animals (hadn’t heard of it before watching this), because I have an interest in all things religious. But I’m worried the vampire might scare me 😂 I can be easily frightened through books.
I love the walks in your vlogs and wondering if you have Noticed how Green everything is this year plus the hydrangeas are enormous in South Wales this year. Are you reading to your baby yet, it was my favourite time of day.
Really enjoyed this vlog. Of the books you mentioned I feel drawn to Butter. I don't have a most anticipated list of books for this year but just got The Borrowed Hills by Scott Preston a debut novel set in Cumbria during the foot and mouth epidemic. Could be very bleak but hoping the language and descriptions of rural life on the Fells captures my imagination
Thanks for the video - definitely relateD to how hard it was getting to Hampstead Heath with a baby so well done. Mine are teens now and it's hard for different motivational reasons! I really enjoyed Mongrel, a 5* read for me. I would say it didn't pan out how I was expecting and i thought the second half of the book was stronger than the first, so maybe give it another go at some stage. Am going to read Butter too for book club and am intrigued by Monstrum after your review.
Biography of X was also one of my most anticipated releases, and I ended up being pretty disappointed by it. I think perhaps the reasons I was disappointed would have been different from the reasons it might not be for you, but I don't think you're missing out. And I think most of my anticipated releases for this year have come out already, but one from June that I'm really looking forward to is Craft: Stories I Wrote for the Devil by Ananda Lima.
Thanks for setting an example for us by DNFing books that just aren’t doing it for you! 💜 I’m currently reading a woman-in-translation graphic novel that I’d really been anticipating, and it hasn’t disappointed! SHUBEIK LUBEIK by Deena Mohamed❤
I hope you enjoy this video ☺️ let me know what you’ve been reading/any most anticipated releases of your own in a comment xx

It is always a good day when I see a new Jen Campbell video! :)
Dear Jen, thanks for making the effort to film videos again. It is really appreciated as you are one of the TH-camrs I follow from whom I pick up the best book recommendations 😅. Take care🙏🏻❤️
There are a few videos up now; I only stopped for four weeks ☺️
@@jenvcampbell yes, I know 😬…. I follow you for years now…have a lovely afternoon!🙏🏻

Sick at home with Covid this weekend, trying to get back into reading after a long slump. I appreciate having a new Jen video to enjoy!
Hope you feel better soon x

just when I thought I’d never bother with another Julia Armfield novel, you pull me back in! great link to Streetcar ♥️
☺️❤️
Always interesting. Glad u r finding time to do this. Just read and reviewed 3 corkers: How We Break, The Ministry of Time and The Rachel Incident.
Thank you for sharing x
So happy to watch a video of you! Loved the fox footage 😂
Cheeky fox 🦊 x
❤ always great to hang out with you via a reading vlog. Private Rites sounds incredible, and I will be checking it out this year.
I hope you enjoy it, too! x

Hurrah for that postpartum hair volume!!
Seeing your video made me so happy!

I didn't know it'd had mixed reviews. Interesting! We'll see how I feel about the rest when I get round to reading it. x

Not a scary vampire at all, don’t worry! x

Of course, since birth ☺️.
Hello Jen, it's good to see you, I'd like to get Jan Carson's new book and Monstrum sounds interesting.
Hope you like them, too! x
Lovely to see a video from you as always ❤
♥️
The Julia Armfield book sounds a lot like/reminds me of On the Beach by Nevil Shute.
Great to see you Jen 🤗 Are you looking forward to the Booker prize long list?
I’m looking forward to talking about it ☺️ x

I read and quite enjoyed fragile animals. I think we should do more to normalise day drinking with vampires! 😂 Good to see you Jen
hahaha x
I would love to have a video of your journey to become a book writer ❤❤❤❤❤
I think I've spoken about that in various videos over the years. Here's one of them - it's old, so apologies! th-cam.com/video/OLqPHpJhW-Y/w-d-xo.html
Just finished French windows and really enjoyed it
Glad you found something you really enjoyed ☺️
I love your videos ❤ You're my favorite ❤️
❤️
Bad fox! We have squirrels burying nuts in our flower pots
Ah, we have that in the autumn, too, very sweet x
❤
We love a stripped back Jen!

DNF-ed Butter.... Couldn't finish it.
Interesting! What about it didn’t work for you? x
Hi Jen, congratulations 🎉
