I shoot both systems and although different lenses, the new Sony FE 24-70mm f2.8 gmii is sharper than the Canon RF 28-70mm f2 L. Tough to say who makes the better glass, both companies are amazingly good.
Thank you man! I fixed and edited the intro but the rest of the video was edited by my friend. Working on making this channel blow up. One video at a time :)
I used to shoot with the Canon 5D and 85mm f1.2 II combo nearly a hundred years ago. That lens was tempremental and needed a lot of TLC to take portraits. When it delivered it was magical. Ever since then everything else I've used delivered great pictures when used properly but I never felt the feeling I had when using the 85 L II. I can imagine that the new lens can deliver the same thing and is another reason to go back to Canon because the lens come first, the body is just a thing to need to buy to make the lens work. Does this make sense?
Great comparison! Have you revisited this comparison since the R5 release? Which lens do you prefer in terms of sharpness and rendering if you had to choose?
@@GastonShutters Ok ok I see...Maybe the TH-cam compression makes me see that the Canon combo is way sharper... We'll have to wait for the R5 then... BTW, eres latino?
I have the RF 85 and it’s super sharp even at f1.2. I didn’t get the DS version cause I prefer the original look better and I didn’t want to lose any light
The lens is superior but the AF system is no there yet on par with Sony. However I am looking forward for canon newest releases. I think a 42mp should be sufficient. But I think they are going to go for who’s got the biggest assets here. 😂
Sam Hartwig indeed man. They have engineers and more experience than most companies out there. I always say that they have a card under their sleeves waiting to be revealed any moment.
The Canon looks a lot sharper at 4:20. How is that? I am using a Sony a7R IV myself, but I am considering going for a future R5 or some other kind of R body. Maybe the RF really is that good and diffraction also kicks in at f/8, especially with wide aperture lenses and on such a high resolution body.
The Canon it is really sharp again this was shot at f8, both lenses are sharp at this aperture, but yeah on this particular picture the canon seems to win. The RF is also way faster at focusing than the G Master. Thanks for stopping by. I have a few Sony/ Canon glass tests coming up so make sure to sub so you don’t miss them. Thanks
Your right it's not even close because the plain of focus is different!! focus has been put on the women left eye on both samples however on the Canon sample the head is turned the eye is in complete aliment with the flower where as the Sony sample is more front facing with the flower sitting a inch or so off the focal plain, trust me with pixel peeping at 1 to 1 it makes a difference. At 4:20 on the Sony sample it simply not focused correctly (compare to 2:30 and you will see what I mean). Don't think you can go wrong with ether lens both are incredible (when focused correctly)
I keep getting different results with every try! I Just uploaded a new video after shooting with the RF 85mm f1.2 after shooting for a while with it. th-cam.com/video/Zulim6Z820E/w-d-xo.html
Sick video, but please turn down the tunes. My ears are bleeding. The RF, and new upcomming bodies will bring Canon back. There is lots to love here, however its hard to really see the results because of the TH-cam compression.
Yes, you said it in your “new TH-cam/Photo studio” video “Your not going to forget this channel” WOW well done mate. Great job to the Editor and the intro is Brilliant and something for me to aspire to. I have the GH5 & a 200D as an amateur photographer/Filmmaker I’m sure to learn a thing or two here. New sub and I wish you well. Cheers from Wild Western Australia 👍🏻
The blur on EOS R is due to the design of preview, no matter what aperture you set, before you press down the shutter button, it will always use the max aperture, only the moment you press down the shutter button, the aperture will be the value you set. I don't know why Canon design like this, I guess it is due to dual pixel autofocus needs as much light as possible to work well. This is something I don't like EOS R/RP.
Lyu Lingsheng thanks for the insight. It really throws me off big time. Especially when trying to focus and you get all that depth of field when trying to shoot at narrow aperture like f11. I hope they we can disable that through firmware. Don’t remember of any system that does that.
Gaston Shutters there is a way to assign a depth of focus preview to a button. I have mine assigned to something random on the back. Not perfect but helpful and it threw me for a big loop too. I expected a live preview to show more than just exposure. Silly me
Would you change your sony system to canon RF? Are the lenses better than sonys? I just want to sell my sony gear (27-70gm - sigma 35 f1.2 - sony 85GM) and get the 28-70f2 and 85mm f1.2. Is this a mistake or what?
Are you shooting with DRO on, if so that might explain why your display is difficult to tell exposure. Great review my man, I just sold my 85GM and bought the sigma 105 1.4. I’d love to see this comparison done!! Keep up the great work!
Aperture ring. Seems to be a campaign against it. I don't know why, it is very useful to me. That shit you do with the black tape - What a normal person will do is move the aperture ring on A (for automatic). That position has a detente and it is very hard to accidentally bump. Now you can set the aperture from the camera dials the way you like it. "Problem" solved. I think Northrup came up with this stupidity (among others) and everybody else followed. He also came up with the completely idiotic "dust" problem.
Nothing beats Canon glass and this one is super cool.
Sony still needs to bow to canon how to make decent glass hahaha

Best camera is the one you already have! Having a slightly better camera, isn't going to make you a better photographer
Very true.
Sold my Nikon , feels so good now , Stuck between Sony or Canon
Props to the editor! I like how energetic and lively the whole video is. don’t know why this channel is not yet blowing upp!! Definitely a thumbs up!

Did you have shallow depth of field preview when you were are narrow apertures ?
Thanks for your feedback
@@GastonShutters I didn't really rely on preview button.
Which one is faster ?
Faster as of aperture the Canon RF in terms of auto focus. Well the Sony system is snappier but both perform well
Great comparison! Have you revisited this comparison since the R5 release? Which lens do you prefer in terms of sharpness and rendering if you had to choose?
Loved the video man. Definite dream lens for me. As well as your skillset being dream! Killer pictures
Much appreciated man
Great video, EOS R is a amazing camera but I still like the Sony A 7IV
I have to agree with that. But the EOS R is no slouch.
Wonder if you can still say that about A7R IV compared to the upcoming EOS R5. 😂
great video.too bad the editor doesnt know what sound level matching means.....
Conclusion:
EOS R with RF 85mm f1.4 (and haklf the megapixel) is WAY sharper than the Sony A7RIV with the 85mm f.14 GM
It’s sharp but just like the 85mm GM Perhaps. Faster at focusing but I still find the Sony system hitting more shots in focus than the Canon 😕
@@GastonShutters Ok ok I see...Maybe the TH-cam compression makes me see that the Canon combo is way sharper...

Francisfreychet yep. Half. Argentine/ Sicilian
Gaston Shutters so you know who Gaston Enria is
Nope
Have not seen the full video yet but just don’t see how you can compare an A7RIV with an eos r....
Why not?

Check out my last video about the 85mm Just uploaded today th-cam.com/video/Zulim6Z820E/w-d-xo.html
The only loser in this comparison is my wallet
And mine
I have both lens. RF is superior. Wait till canon releases big MP body. RF needs more resolution

@@samhartwig4640 canon is conservative. the next camera coming is supposed to to be a big deal and a big step forward.

I’m a dad. What’s your superpower? Thank you. Yeah. I don’t get this. Why complicate things when they can be simple Canon!
To test sharpness you have to shoot at the widest aperture though.
