These is a physical DQ collection of the first 3 games on Switch. But those 3 games can be bought individually on the eShop, so is it really a collection?
BUT BEFORE that once the Servers to the 3DS shuts down so WILL The DLC dungeons from DQ7's remake the only way to FIX that post shutdown is to port the 3DS version of DQ7 also to the PS4/PS5/Switch. But even that's not permanent since eventually the PS4 PS5 Switch online servers to access PSN or Eshop games will still get the same shutdown as the 3DS/2DS.
Before I started this run I looked up if this possible without insane grinding and I did run into your video. So thanks for partly inspiring me to do this run. I didn't want to straight up copy what you did so I decided to not use Call Team, but mostly to avoid the discussion point for if it is truly solo at that point.
Watched your fisticuffs run earlier so decided to watch this one. I am now subbed! This was the first DQ game I played since the first one on the NES. I LOVED this game! The character design being done by Toriyama made it have so much life in this game, and I forgot how difficult fights can be in this game with the way they group enemies at times. Obviously when I first played this game I had no idea what was a good for equipment and how to make anything OP from the pot, but being an avid RPG fan I didn't have too much issue with this game. I would really love to replay this someday.
The concept of presenting the strategy for the boss and the stats in a card is really cool, ngl Looking forward to seeing more videos, keep it up man :)
I LOVE THIS FKING GAME!!!! best Dragon Quest game I want to play it's been a long, long time. Im subbing just because you're playing it. I appreciate the Raphael music during Rhapthorne boss battle it was fitting.
Awesome video, it's great to see content for the original DQ8, I'd love to see more challenge runs. I think an Angelo-only run would be possible without absurd grinding.
How crass of me, I wanted to mention: fantastic run, well played. If you wanted to try and beat the King of the Dragovians, you could technically just create a monster team with a single weakly starter monster, call it on the first turn to soak up the curse and then play as normal. Not sure you can actually undo the curse by yourself, but if you can excuse a Call Team if the monsters do not technically do anything and just get defeated immediately, it could be doable. Grindy, but doable.
FFoozie… where have you gone!? Please come back and make more amazing videos like these - some of the best and most entertaining challenge run videos I’ve ever seen man. Watching back through this and your other DQVIII video now - and they’re just so great man. I’ll keep waiting for you to drop something new! You got any other games you’d like to do this kinda thing for?
Yo, man. I appreciate your comment a lot! Sadly, I've just been lacking the motivation. I have recorded a completed Grandia II run from about 4 months ago now, but have only edited like 10 minutes worth of video. I do want to finish within the next month, but no promises. Thank you for sticking with me!
Hey man, no problem. I’m sure you got plenty of stuff going on on in life, so I totally understand - plus sometimes it’s just hard to find that motivation. Take your time and have fun, we’re all here to enjoy a good game, and that can’t be done if it’s being treated like a job, so don’t feel rushed. Whenever you get around to it, I’ll be excited. I’ve actually only ever played the first Grandia (and even then didn’t beat it, just got a little over halfway I think) but always wanted to play the others.
For anyone wondering “but how about post game the dragovian challenge solo” it’s possible but require some EXTREME grinding! I did that part solo Hero (not the whole game, but the dragovian challenge) but you need to have stats that are only possible to get from seed farming, which in DQ8 is a pain! It took about 6 months of real life time for me to get 999 in Strength, agility and defense…..with only Hero! So it’s possible, but not worth it!
Id love to see a solo DQIX run. I think it would be easier to set up as well since the only forced character on your team is your 1 main character if I remember rightly. DQIX was my childhood and I've completed it so many times. Some of the storylines had me crying a bit. I didnt realise this youtube channel was missing from my life until I found it and I'm glad I did!
I've done a Hero Only run on DQIX before and I think in some cases it's easier as your hero gets 4x XP as there's no party members and the Vocation System made for some interesting builds. It's the late game which really gets tense as Goresby Purrvis, Godwyn, Barbarus and Corvus are all quite difficult solo. Also early game is a bit rough as Wight Knight had multithrust and Morag was often able to paralyse or infatuate the hero for me. Ragin' Contagion was also deceptively hard as well given the access he had to Sap. It's a really fun run and I'd recommend people to try it but Hero Only is quite an interesting challenge but once I got the boat the challenge became a boss rush until I got to Purrvis where difficulty picked up again.
I remember seeing a yangus solo run in the past. I'll have to check what they did for rhapthorne but I don't think they leveled their teammates at all. I think they hoped and prayed for RNGesus that they could get the staff off. Edit: I can't find the solo yangus run on YT. They must've removed it or the channel got deleted. I remember watching it like 10 years ago.
Technically, you can completely skip having party members in the PS2 version of Dragon Quest by abusing a frame-perfect glitch where you pause the game as soon as you enter the next area. Doing so at specific parts of the game can permanently remove all party members, however Level 5 put several stopgaps in between areas that force you to have certain party members in order to proceed.
GG and well played! Nice to see the additions of speed tech this time arround. As for the post game, yeah, I agree. By the time you get there, you've already prooven your point and you have what you need anyways to do it short of even more grinding for like 15 more levels, so skip the middleman and show Yangus that clip again... 😀 (though makes me almost morbidly curious enough to see the source of that clip myself -- I can take it, I did solo thief FF1 NES, so I feel like I'm 1337 enough to watch the cringe clip 🤪.)
Yeah, post game really wouldn't be interesting. I'd just be doing the same thing I've been doin the second half of the game: Level enough so that I can survive the highest amount of damage the boss can do, then wait for an opening. Really isn't interesting enough to dedicate more time to imo. I don't encourage self-harming behavior so you really shouldn't watch that video. Lol but for real, it isn't worth anyone's time. I don't delete it because it shows growth. No one's first try is perfect. Maybe that encourages someone to start making videos as well.
Loving the DQ8 videos and your style. Keep it up cause you earned this subscriber. Any plans for other games, DQ or otherwise? I'm a sucker for a good challenge video
Thank you! I'll be taking a break from DQVIII for a little while, but I do wanna visit the 3ds version sometime. Thinking about solo yangus or no skillpoints/shopping for that. For now, I'm working on a Grandia 2 solo Ryudo run. After that I'm not sure. Maybe Like A Dragon or DQXI.
Ĥero is op once you get that spell that summons or transforms him into a blue dragon circa level 50 or 60.Once you get also the dragon gear game becomes a joke.Good old times
I discovered your channel and I love your dragon quest 8 videos so much. Im curious if you would do a "Can you beat dragon quest VIII with the Hardtype by Landonray" or something like that. I tried to start a run with that but I am way to bad at the game lmao.
Hmm, I'll think about it. I want to do some other stuff before returning to dragon quest, and when I come back I want to do a randomizer run first. But I'll keep it in the backlog, thanks for the suggestion.
Yeah, power-levelling in challenges is often looked down on. My stance is this:- If at the end of the game you're still only on the cusp of being able to win, you haven't over levelled, you've prepared in advance for this part of the game. This is especially the case in this game as levelling is such a chore to begin with. So the idea you don't make use of it just because the mid game becomes simpler is arbitrary if you're just going to do it later anyway.
Played this way back in middle school. I’d played RPGs before but was still relatively inexperienced and didn’t have a great understanding of efficient leveling, skill point allocation, how to determine which abilities were useful and which were crap, and so on. Seriously, in my early 30s now and I’ll go back and look at my old save files from games like this and I’m just screaming, “what were you thinking!?” Anyway. I’m at the point in your video where I see you were level 39 when you fought Empyria. And I’m sitting here thinking… on my ultimate file of this game - beat the main story and was a ways into the bonus dungeon… and I’m level 42… Now I know this was a solo challenge run, so you’re definitely gonna be a bit over leveled, but it forces me to wonder, was I just stupid under-leveled for my play through? Did I force myself through that game on sheer will-power alone? Now I need to go find out what an average run for this game looks like… tell ya one thing, I’ll bet it never involves getting Jessica so leveled up on knives so that she can use swords… freekin what the crap was I thinking!?
I don't think that's a weird thought at all. Skill point allocation in DQ8 is so unclear, there's no knowing which skill tree suits you best without investing a lot of skill points in there, so my first playtrough had a lot of points in boomerangs, clubs and swords for angelo lol. Not like it matters that much. The game isn't that hard, and sounds like you've made it trough the final boss just fine. Level 42 is a pretty normal level for that. I'm pretty certain I usually beat rhapthorne at level 37 or 38.
@@ffooziehaha, “the games not that hard” coming from the pro challenge run guy over here. To your point, in a more recent play through I’ve had a much smoother experience, but even with that, I definitely always viewed this game as pretty challenging in comparison to other RPG/JRPGs out there. I remember a big factor that made my initial play through as a kid so freekin challenging was just how hard it is to make money in the game. Leveling up was slow going as it is, but getting money? A nightmare - so I really sympathized when you pointed it out. Gold Golems and the casino were my only hope. The encounter rate was also killer for me as a kid too. Between that and the sheer numbers of enemies that could attack you at once, I was struggling just to survive. Having said that, while I can appreciate some of the quality of life improvements the 3DS version brought about, (no more random encounters, instant alchemy pot creation, etc.) I gotta say there’s something about the grind of the original that just has to be experienced. This has always been my personal favorite of the series (like many, it was my introduction to the series as a whole) but if I’m being honest, the remake I want more than anything is 9. Man, make 9 with the visual quality of 11 and put it on the switch? I’d be flipping out.
Hahaha, this run was more a test of patience than 'hard' imo, but it does require knowledge of the game. Money used to be a biiiig issue for me as well when I was younger. This was definitely because I did little to no alchemizing. Selling prayer rings from the casino was my go-to. It really depends on if you have good crowd control tools. I used to value boomerangs a lot, so regular encounters weren't that much of an issue, but i admit there are some scary ones. I do like 9, but I personally don't really care for having a party full of randos. I like the personalities of DQ8 and especially DQ11 parties, so I was a little disappointed that DQ9's party members were all custom.
Honestly, you probably ended up underleveled because you don't need to grind for most of PS2 DQ8. You can move straight from point A to point B to progress the story, fighting all of the random encounters along the way and you'll have enough experience to get through the game. You might have an easier or worse time depending on your skill layouts and if you take short grind sessions against enemies/metal slimes. The major problems with playing like this is gold, enemies give out pitiful amounts so you'll only have enough to buy two weapons/armor at most. Like you said, Gold Golems and the casino are the best way to grind gold, but it still takes a while. Some bosses might roadblock you too, like Dhoulmagus (Angelo won't have multiheal) and Empyrea. IMO the game does kinda steer you towards being underleveled, the battles in this game take so long because of the animations that I just want to do the bare minimum. Like the Boulder Toss skill, it took a few seconds for the animation to load and start playing if I remember correctly, which was very noticeable in my fisticuffs-only run. My fat PS2 did not like this game lol. The 3DS game with its speed-up toggle helps with this problem thankfully by making encounters go by faster.
Thank you! Videos like this just take a while. This run alone (including grinding) took ~45 hours. Then I have to write a script and edit it down... plus I still go to uni, so that keeps me busy most of the week. You probably can imagine I don't want to spent the little free time I have tearing out my eyeballs on a challenge like this lol. I'm definitely gonna continue making videos, just at a snail's pace.
the real question is can you bet this game using hero using only his fists? :P We all saw how that one went last time and it was glorious. Good video bro, hope you enjoying DQM Dark Prince game, planning to do some pvp for my channel in the future. Clicked subbed and looking forward to see seeing what else you cook for us next time.
What about only using monsters to fight for you, turning dq8 into dq Monsters. Would also make farming them and figuring out a good combo interesting. Ofc you need to get there first
About that I believe the monsters that can JOIN the party in DQ8 ONLY work for its Arena/Coliseum battles and that's IT and aren't actually useable anywhere else in game.
Sadly NO the final boss can't really be damaged UNLESS you use like those 8 orbs on it and in order to do that you need to NOT solo it and stay alive for at least 2 FULL turns. So theirs no way a SOLO party member even at lv 99 is going to survive a FULL 8 turns.
You know what would help in the next run you do with this game and im just freeballing here but how about you ACTUALLY LEVEL GRIND BY 5 LEVELS BEFORE EACH FUQING BOSS FIGHT so that way you aren't to strong and can still get that challenge you are looking for without constantly relying on luck
@@ffoozie its my favorite dq too so I understand haha if you want to do another challenge you Can do it on 3ds I know you dont have the games but it works well on citra and you have special bosses + estark 👀
I've done two runs in the span of a month so I'm good for now, but if I return i do wanna check out the 3ds version. Having no random battles sounds great. I did hear the new bosses are pretty far into the post game, so I'm not sure I'll even get there in a challenge run. Especially Estark, who is harder than the ultimate dragon.
@ffoozie thats half true, you access a special dungeon which you can fight as soon as you access it which is around the time of the festival in Argonia so mid-late game. The bosses IN the dungeon? Yeah no, don't attempt until you can consistently defeat the Dragovian Lord
Hmmm nop I think it's after the first dragovian lord fight when he gives you rewards, you can ask to unlock the dj (it's where the grandma in the snowhouse died) so yeah it's after the end of the game haha because enemies are really opppp@@dynastygirl2912
Finally, a run where I can figure out who to give the stat boosters
You gave your stat boosters to anyone but the hero? Why?

You're actually quite funny. I hope you reconsider how often you upload. Don't busy yourself on our accounts though.
I look forward to them! These DQ 8 vids earned you a sub.@@ffoozie
hey nice video
I didn't find the song searchin by the name at 10:45 can you please tell me the name?
It's definitely on youtube, it's just a little bit of a chore to find.
Look for a channel named @/hangster559, they should have it as an upload.
@@ffoozie thanks king
Even you got massive problems with Rhapthornes Thiccnesss.
the real question is can you bet this game using hero using only his fists? :P We all saw how that one went last time and it was glorious. Good video bro, hope you enjoying DQM Dark Prince game, planning to do some pvp for my channel in the future. Clicked subbed and looking forward to see seeing what else you cook for us next time.
Subbed!
Nice ost boyyyyyyyyyyy persona / smt / kh ect...
What about dragovian trials?
Next we want Alchemy only
What about only using monsters to fight for you, turning dq8 into dq Monsters. Would also make farming them and figuring out a good combo interesting. Ofc you need to get there first
I also love dq8 Challenge runs, reminds me alot of my childhood
About that I believe the monsters that can JOIN the party in DQ8 ONLY work for its Arena/Coliseum battles and that's IT and aren't actually useable anywhere else in game.
@@veghesther3204 thats incorrect, you can use them in normal Fights aswell, but only for 3 turns each team
kiba here cool vid
Sadly NO the final boss can't really be damaged UNLESS you use like those 8 orbs on it and in order to do that you need to NOT solo it and stay alive for at least 2 FULL turns.
So theirs no way a SOLO party member even at lv 99 is going to survive a FULL 8 turns.
Pssst it's a month from Christmas and I need to watch something when I'm half-dead digesting dinner. Do a run, g'wan be cool.
Hahahahaha good video!
Ain't nobody got time for that 😂
try a run with out the hero in the 3ds version
Fisticuff Hero only run when
Would love too see hero only for 7
You know what would help in the next run you do with this game and im just freeballing here but how about you ACTUALLY LEVEL GRIND BY 5 LEVELS BEFORE EACH FUQING BOSS FIGHT so that way you aren't to strong and can still get that challenge you are looking for without constantly relying on luck
where do he is playing the game? Emulator ?
I'm kinda iffy about doing this
I think you like dragon quest VIII ?
Yeah definitely one of my favorites lol
You sound dutch my guy
Bro see if you can beat the game using only "personal skills" like Blow-Kiss and Golden Oldies
Let me solo it
hi
hero looks like a girl who is trying to look like a boy
You had me at ℒℴ𝓋ℯ.
