Especially the Whip can be a challenge to get as you'll have to deal with a new V Blood boss called Simon Belmont The Vampire Hunter, while the Longbow can be unlocked early game. Simon Belmont also patrols the Silverlight hills.
Also when he heals he has a shield that you can break with damage to stops the heal
