You have given this fossil a new life and exposed it's majesty and beauty and taken away the millions of years of darkness and Brought it into the light for the world to appreciate ! a days work well done ! I thankyou !🙊🙉🙈🇬🇧🇷🇺🇺🇸🇳🇿🇨🇦🇮🇳🌞🌞🌞😐👫👫👫👫👫👫👫
Loved the filming of this prep. I love watching the process of chipping away the rock. It's awesome, Dan! And the final specimen....so beautiful! Love, love, love your work!!! 😊💖 More please 🤗🙏🙏🙏
Glad you enjoyed it, certainly more difficult to to edit, but definitely more fun to make than just a timelapse. More to come soon! Did a few the other day luckily
Great prep work, and I loved the way you presented the process in the video. I will admit it made me nervous watching you use such a powerful scribe so close to the fossil, but you definitely have a practiced and steady hand!
Thankyou! I wanted to do something a little different than timelapses, kind of hard to come up with ideas in such a niche market.6 years of many failures have led up to it haha. I still mess up stuff to this date. You can never stop learning!
Fantastic prep video Dan,.. I enjoyed this style of filming as it was close to realtime and I could clearly see the steps needed to produce such a fantastic specimen...I hope that with my dremel and a lot of practice on my not so perfect 'dac's ',I can produce something close to your skill..mebey in the future I may get a set-up similar to yours!😊🤞
Hi Dan It's a great video and I'm just getting a tool to give some ago myself. What do you apply at the end of the video is it a grease? I have seen some varish etc and wondered how you select what to use? Thanks Ian
Great video by the way, I'm wanting to start to learn how to prep some of my fossils so just watching you and your fellow fossil hunters video's. Is there a reason why you left the ammonite half in the matrix and not excavated all of it?.
What compressor you got? Usually it’s going to either be 1/8 or 1/4 bps. Think it’s usually 1/4. Speak to Kate and mihai at zoic mate. They’re steer you in the right direction
Ah super! Will this preserve fossils also? I have a very good a minute that I found that is iron pyrite and it awesome.. I want to polish it and put something on it to preserve it and keep its golden shine if possible?
@@andypowlesland599Luckily the majority of fossils we find in whitby don't need to be preserved with anything, as pyrite rot doesn't tend to occur in whitby. The company zoic sell a product called pyrite stop that is designed for fossils that can suffer from it, dorset being the main culprit
@@RustyTorch yes, also brings out the dark colours much more that way. There's plenty of other things you can use, but I much prefer the beeswax to anything else
@@WhitbyFossils1 is there a specific type of natural beeswax you use? i see a few different forms but usually natural beeswax seems to be in bars, would that work? yours looks a little more liquid and less solid lol thats why i ask
Is that bees wax you use to finish it?
Do you prefer these kind of prep videos, or the Timelapse versions? Let me know down in the comments
This kind
@@luckythebudgie3116 thanks!
I prefer this kind
It's so satisfying to watch
Thanks! I preferred making these to be honest. Certainly makes it more interesting to watch and has a different perspective
That must be so satisfying to see the end product after it's finished more preps please xx

Thank you for sharing your skill in fossil preparation.
superb job !!
Absolutely amazing video..😮
Cracking Dac and cracking prep Dan💪👍
Thanks! Prepped an absolute dream, no faults at all haha. Couldn't have been better for a video

Cheers mate, practice makes perfect ;)
Love the style of this video. Similar to Clickspring but with fossils :D keep them coming!
Thankyou! Been wanting to try something a bit different for a while now.

its natural beeswax
Wow, amazing work!
Thanks. It prepped up beautifully :)
Funny, there's a place in New Zealand also called Whitby! No fossil that I know of, though. How's it up in Whitby these days?

Purely aesthetics more than anything really. I just prefer them with matrix. Gives good contrast, plus it’s more work removing it completely 😂
Great job mate.
Thanks mate!
Awesome content!
Nice job 💪🤩
I can’t wait to get some proper tools
Get buying mate. Not once regretted dropping the money you have to lol!

@@WhitbyFossils1 only a 50 ltr, not sure on the make as I bought it months ago.
Day off tomorrow so I’ll ring them after the beach 😜
Can I ask what you put on the fossil to finish it and make it glossy
Would be nice if you describe what you're doing - for example what is this paste ypu put on at the end?? Fat?
What a great video Dan. It shows the great detail and time and effort that goes into prepping a fossil. Love the camera angles and well edited mate 👍
cheers r kid
What was the stuff you put on the Ammonite and rubbed in?
What was the stuff that the toothbrush was dipped?
Natural beeswax. Brings out the colours 😀

i liked the format :3 tho i dont have a preference! also what did you use on the fossil? that yellow stuff
Thanks! I think I prefer it myself, though always wanting to know what other people think! It's natural beeswax.

What kind of chisel is this? I have some fossils I’d like to do with with. I just don’t have the right equipment
What is the name of the tool you're using?
It’s a pneumatic air scribe
@WhitbyFossils1 thank you!
What is the substance you rubbed on the fossil called and do you sell it ?
Good work
