You are so lucky finding ammonites all over the place! I live in Northern Ireland and there are very few places to find fossils along the coast. i found a broken piece of ammonite and a broken piece of an imprint from an ammonite.but i was so excited to find those bits!!! But i would love to find a complete specimen or even better a pyritized one!!
About fifty years ago i found an ammonite and boy was i pleased with myself. I still have it on my mantelpiece, but its only about 3/4" across. Boy you made me feel jealous, but its an amazing thrill isn't it to hold something in your hand that could be in excess of 65 million years old? Take care out there.
Fascinating! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Must one day visit Whitby….so many interesting things…spectacular coastline, fossils, jet jewelry, Dracula, historic pubs…just wonderful 😊👍👍
Cracking finds mate been in whitby the last couple of day's but having to go back early due to the rail strikes hoping to get out in the morning to look just below the Abbey and hopefully find something 😁
I’m a first time viewer of your channel. I have been collecting fossils, rocks, coins and arrowheads for over 50 years.we don’t find anything like you do,I find small brachiopods and horn corrals.
What tool do you use to prepare the fossil's. I have a few from Runswick bay that I'm thinking about dressing but not sure what to use. Also have some teeth from Carolina that need a few bits removing. 1 7inch Megladon tooth
Ammonites like the one at 8:50 have, what I would describe as 'segments', forming it's shape. My question is as follows: What is an Ammonites growth rate segments/year?
@@WhitbyFossils1 can't wait, you lucky duck! We live near an amazing fossilised Forest, Often the ocean is ruthless and an area of the cliff collapses. A huge amount of fossilised tree roots but not 1 ammonite... 😅
Why you walking around with a shopping bag mate? You need to get yourself a nice backpack with a cheaper liner. Would be less likely that you can damage your finds whilst constantly putting them on rocks and it's so much nicer carrying them on your back.
Sorry to ask, but under Section 18 of the Coastal Protection Act 1949, aren't you videoing yourself committing multiple offences that could each trigger a £1000 fine? I've read of people merely taking home a Cornish pebble being compelled to return it from whence it was souvenired, for example. Just wondering what the legalities are.
No problem. Collecting is completely fine. It’s Queensland(or kingsland now I suppose). Anything you find is yours. Only rules are for sssi locations, which means no hammering or digging in situ, meaning the fossil is the bed rock or cliffs themselves. Anything that has come lose from either is perfectly find and no issue. Hope that helps 👍
It is possible to believe in God without being a literal creationist and calling gastropods "Devil's Toenails" in certian knowledge that they were a work of evil to decieve mankind. What can be more godly than seeing evolution? Personally, I am a flying spaghetti monsterist/Jedi.
I absolutely love your enthusiasm for fossil collecting and prepping. I would be the same way if I were able You just have a beautiful energy and I wanna be your Nan and give you a big hug and smooch! 🫂💋 Lol 😂

Whoooaa that Amaltheus! All that hard work paid off with that find! Glad I stumbled on your channel, great energy you have a wonderful personality.
Thanks for the kind words 😊🙌
Very impressive preps. I especially like how you smooth the nodule instead of leaving scribe marks. Really helps the specimen pop

There’s plenty in Ireland as far as I’m aware. Best thing to do is fully research the areas.

I am a southerner..raised on visits to Kimmeridge then Jurassic coast enthusiasms. I need to go look up the map to find what beds these are...

Awesome. I subscribed. 👍🏽
Thanks 😊
Are all the ammonites you found from the same time period? What other creatures did they share their environment with?
All from the Jurassic. Though you have the lower, middle and upper lias’
@@WhitbyFossils1 please visit Wrens nest in Dudley. It's a silruvian coral reef in limestone. You may find tribolytes.
@@WhitbyFossils1 do you find belomites? We found some in Robin Hoods Bay.
One of my recent videos was actually at wrens nest haha.

Are there any rules about taking fossils from beaches? Do you need a licence? Is there a limit you can take? ...just curious.
More or less none at all. You have sites called sssi which means you can hammer or dig the bed rock. Anything ex-situ is free to whomever found it.
Where is it?
Whitby 🙌
You live there?
I like this place
The best place for searching for fossils is the beach
Found any jet with them cliff falls 🤔
Have you and Simon Neil ever been seen in the same room together?
😂 that’s a new one to add to the comparison list
You need a really strong canvas bag, the fossils are heavy.
I already do. A few of them 🙌
@@WhitbyFossils1 I've ripped a few handbags from filling them with ammonites.
And it's a bugger walking on those rocks in 4 inch heels and a little black dress !
Nice

I know them lol

😂. I have an army rucksack I use. I just stick everything in the bags so it’s easier to get them out at the end of that day.

Fossil hunting youtubers vs real fossil hunters. Anyone?
