ps4 has gyro, and they just didn't utilize it for years.
And devs are still ignoring it for most games 🤡
@FlickStickVids just barely starting to implement it.
So did ps3
@evanbaxter5509 Yeah, I'm not as familiar with the gyro in ps3. Is it usable on pc? I'm guessing the dual shock 4 gyro is better though.
@aboveaveragebayleaf9216 PS3 controllers don't have modern gyro. Only DualShock4 onwards.
Even the implementation of motion controls on PS3 games are very limited and they don't work at all like modern gyro.
Unfortunately, I don’t think this will fully catch on until big games like COD completely remove aim assist and force gyro controls, which I think is unlikely since they want to appeal to their casual fan base
It's true, I'm just not sure about appealing to "casuals". Motion Controls for aiming are for casuals too, if it wasn't, Nintendo wouldn't be doing it for the past 10 years. I would argue that motion controls for aiming are even more intuitive for casuals!
@@FlickStickVids That's true! I guess I should have said they want to appeal to the people who have already been using joysticks for so long and not alienate their player base by forcing a new input method on them.
Turn down the Aim Assist strength
another issue is that xbox controllers don't have a gyro sensor, making gyro aim impossible
@@FlickStickVidsyes
❤️ Great breakdown! And thanks for the love! I hope a lot of people see this and *get it*
Please help a brother out and do a guide for mw2 gyro flick stick through steam. Had a really tough time setting it up and gave up. Currently using in game ads only gyro.
I hope alot of developers get this. because games like horizon forbidden west, days gone and the last of us 1 and 2 could certainly use better gyro controls. Maybe you should send all the big develoers over to your gyro wiki so the can have a look. or better put that in a physical document and mail it to developers. maybe that would give them the insight how they should implement it correctly. On the pc side there could be some improvement if all develoers would allow for mixed input. that certainly would help, so whe would not have to use action layers or modeshifts all the time. i mis my analog left stick when i use mode shift for the gyro.
@@caleasthetic Thanks! I do reach out to all the devs I can. Usually don't hear anything back. It probably helps for them to hear from more players
@@JibbSmartGD i doubt they even readit. how many devs have read your gyro wiki. For fortnite and deathloop did the developrs reach out to you or the other way around just curious. In regardsw to most switch implementation of gyro, is it mouse like controls or mostly right stick gyro.
I only tend to use my gyro controller on console if my pc cant run the game. For exmple i have trouble running a steady fps on uncharted on pc. so i use my nexus on ps4 version or the ps5 through remote play.
Does not feel as good as mouse gyro, but atleast i dont have the hazzle of having to make a config wbecause most pc games dont allow mixed input.
Gyro is a game changer. Idk why anybody would not like it. It makes shooting arrows in Tears of the Kingdom playable.
Gyro is not only better but it's also the most natural and intuitive way to aim, more intuitive than even mouse in my opinion. I started using gyro recently at first I kept forgetting to use it, so it took 3 days for me to completely incorporate into my aiming. After a week it became natural to aim with gyro and also my aim improved tremendously, even better than I was with mouse. I got so used to it, that when it accidentally got turned off mid game, I felt momentarily disoriented and nauseous, that I was unable to aim while moving the controller.
It really is for those who can use it. And it's such a shame it's so rarely used
just today i tried gyro ratcheting on shadow warior 3. But for shadow warior i had to edit the input.ini file to remove the mouse acceleration / mouse smoothing.
i also set up flick stick on the same config. The gyro ratcheting button i put on the left bumper on the regular press. For the weapons i use the face buttons, but i also put a long press on the left bumper for the weapon wheel, incase i want it I also tried ratheting on two joycons with rewasd. I used a config from directedinput (youtuber). Gyro ratcheting felt more natural on the joycons. But i still try to gey used to it on a full controller.
Flick stick is easier for me, and also more usefull to learn because a handfull of console games like fortnite, deathcloop and boomerang x use it. I mostly use steraminput and i have learned alot about layers and activators. The knowledge i gained form steam input is also easily transferable to rewasd. if you get the idea behind how layers and activators work you can easily do alot of the same things on rewad. And rewasd has the benefit of supporting a few flydigi controllers, who have 4 back buttons. most 3rd party ps4 / switch controllers are limited to either a ds4 mode or switch mode on pc. this means that even if they have back buttons, you are liomited to copies of already existing inputs. With flydigi controller on rewasd you can put unique mappings on the back buttons.
The downside of rewasd is theire are a few limitations on gyro settings like combine yaw and roll (steam now has local space, players spcae etc on the beta channel). But some games dont work well with steaminput, even with global steam controller (glosc).
I am trying to get sufficient at flick stick and gyro ratcheting. And i try to learn as much about rewasd and steam at the same time.
@@teneesh3376I'm forcing myself to play gyro+stick flick and right now I can say confidently playing console games as a kid the learning curve is pretty steep, that being said I also had a similar feeling when I tried vr I know when it "clicks" it'll be smooth as butter, the issue is most people try it once have a bad experience and never pick it up again
@@personalstuff3019 fair enough. I basically thought the same when I played splatoon long ago from a bigon era. Except I was a lot more "ew gross" at my friend's house when I tried it. Only really got into it years after and can't back away now
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive officially supports flick stick.
Honestly, crossplay isn't the reason why aim assist shouldn't exist, its just one of the biggest things that show how bad of a solution aim assist is. I still hate aim assist on console exclusives without crossplay because it's an objective weakpoint for controllers. It's the biggest limiting factor for controllers and wasn't a good solution in the first place. I grew up playing console and the first thing I'd do with every new game was to turn off aim assist, I absolutely hate when my aim changes without me making that change
Let's go a TH-camr who doesn't promote gae assist (aim assist)
I've been saying this for years. Remove auto aim and force people to learn flick stick and gyro. There is no excuse for the game aiming for you.
Maybe not flick stick be mandatory, but definitely gyro
Added bonus: this looks WAAAAY more fun to use
only problem is most people think of the wii era if you tal k about motion controls. This maybe has left a bad taste in their mouth. I have never seen a console games that has gyro aim on by default. most developers would not have the balls to do this, but i think it was a great move from Nintedo to enable it by default in splatton and zelda breath of the wilde. In my opion more devs would need to forge gyro on atleast the tutorial section of their game. Then people would starting talking about it way more. Most people dont even seem to know it exist. Some who do know what it is seem to have the opion that they dont want it as an option for other players just because they dont like it themselfs. These people are mainly xbox players. I am just glad whe have devices like The xim nexus controller and the armor x pro to use gyro on xbox aswell.
The gyro may not be as good as on pc because it is tied to the rightstick instead of proper mouse, wich has aim accelaration, but it is better then no gyro at all, or better then some gyro implementations like in the last of us.
@@caleasthetic I had a Wii. I only had one real attraction to the motion controls, and that was for a gun-pointer aiming experience. Since I played RE4 as one of the first games for the Wii, I have little but great memories of my Wii. I never got into the gesture games.
It IS more fun. Before I really analyzed mouse vs gyro, I made a commitment to stick with gyro, for better or worse, even if I had to face mouse users in the future. The reason: it was like 4 times more fun to use than the mouse. I've had access for mouse for first person shooters for decades, but I only ever played a small handful of the games. Now first person shooters are one of my favorite game genres, thanks to gyro. I play them 10 times as much as I used to, because I now enjoy them far more. Since Bayonetta and God of War melee combat games were one of my favorite genres for console, I have a VERY high amount of experience with them. The newest God of War is now a game tailor made to fit my skill set. Lots of melee fighting, and plenty of long range fighting too. On my first time through, I'm playing on maximum difficulty. Around 40 hours in. Had some frustrating fights. I had many fights where I died in 2 hits at this difficulty, but my crazy accuracy with the gyro made certain sections of the game requiring hitting small weak spots, or even shooting projectiles out of the air, a breeze.
@@Creshex8 i love gyro. but even on pc sometimes it is a hazzle to set up. This is because alot of games dont alllow for mouse and a controller at the same time. like god of war. i tried walking with the stick and aim wiht the mouse. The controller just does not work when you move the mouse. So i had to create and action layer to shift every button to keyboard inputs when aiming. and switch back when i release the trigger. other games like kena bridge of spirits i could just use the gamepad with gyro preset from steam and i only had to adjust the sensitivity. Also on some pc games you cant seem to make it use raw input and your stuck with mouse accelaration. I like to have a sensitiviy where my charachter turns 360 degrees when i turn the controller 90 degrees. Games like the last of us and days gone both will only give me a 180 turn ingame when i turn my controller 90. only game that had excellent gyro is boomerang x. but i am still getting used to flickstick. i have trouble keeping my camera at eye level without the stick to compensate. So i had to constantly push the gyro pauze button. Gyro clicked for me right away, but flickstick has a learning curve for me.
@@caleasthetic Yes. I spent around 6 hours figuring out the controller+mouse problem when I first encountered it with Halo Reach on the Xbox PC game pass. I thought this was a problem exclusive to the Xbox PC Game Pass, but now it sounds like a universal problem. I ended up solving it by going pure Keyboard and Mouse (the gyro is mouse input, and the controller buttons are a big pile of keyboard keys). After doing it several times, the process is pretty fast and takes around 10 minutes. I sit down with a pad and make a side-by-side tabulated list of the action, controller input, and keyboard input. I then just map the controller buttons to the aligned keyboard key.
Could you try and answer one question for me? Halo 4 disabled the mouse with a controller was detected providing input, and vice versa, for around 2 or so seconds. Will an action layer solve this? Or will it do no good, because it won't bypass the 2 second disabling of the other input?
On Rage 2, I know the action layer method will work, because the swap is nearly instant, but the switch over for Halo 4 and Halo Reach are SOOOOO long!
I tried gyro aim with my ps4 controller on CSGO it felt strange & abnormal but after I got a custom to it, I felt so free ! More games please allow gyro aim
COD:MW3 has a really good native implimentation of flick stick/gyro. You need to turn off steam input on PC in the game properties. Then COD will read a PS controller's gyro inputs. I'm quite happy that a big AAA game has support for my preferred controller input method.
yessss, been saying this for years, not only is it fun and fair, but it's also a lot more natural to use(I almost never play on controller because I find it frustrating and uncomfortable but I tried apex on the switch once and it was actually really fun and intuitive)
How is a controller uncomfortable I'd say m&k is uncomfortable and I'm used to it I'm used to both the m&k like ctrl/shift for sprinting is extremely uncomfotable for me
@@hutki_shira he means using the analog for aiming and that is objectly true
@@b-fenix5789 I wouldn't say it is uncomfartable to use the analog sticks for aiming it's just verry hard
Can't wait for aim assist to die. The software assisted aim in mw2 is so insanely overpowered that even kbam pros have switched to controller in this game exclusively just to get that aim assist
its op in basically every implomentation. some games with cross input where controller is easier to aim on: cod, apex, titanfall, fortnite, paladins, destiny 2, halo.
This is why I got a Dualsense over an Xbox Series controller. The gyro should been a BASIC feature in 2020. I play Splatoon with an 8bitdo adapter. Gyro enabled.
Great video bro, I've been moving back and forth from gyro controls in mw2 and I can't tell which one I prefer. Does seem like I may be better with gyro, probably because I usually only play mouse and keyboard. Flick stick is a whole other challenge but I'm interested in trying it. Wish more games would make native support, I'm sure tons of people would be using it now
I stick playing with flick stick + gyro on doom and after 6hrs I now can play good, not like on pc but really good for playing with a controller
Flick stick is a gimmick. Hard to recentering hard to predict how you gonna flick, bad tracking. But gyro+customisable curve is the answer. Look at apex legends curve settings. Been playing 2 years with no aim assist and never gonna back to aim assist.
@@8HeartNCMflick stick is because 1 pro using gyro brought I the benifits of having an instant 180 and 90 flick I believe its a csgo player but I coud be mistaken
@@personalstuff3019 it's not an option for me. Flickstick is unusable for me.
I’ve been using gyro aiming for about 4 years and I got so good at it. I play on a ps5 and I actually tried to switch to a high and pc to play at high FPS but tbh playing on a pc with gyro is so complicated and it’s not the same as gyro on a ps5 so I ended up going back to my ps5 I love the gyro aiming and that’s the only reason why i still haven’t switched to pc
Great video. Ive been screaming this since the launch of the Steam Controller!
I play splatoon competitively so I got pretty used to playing w gyro aiming and in turn struggled w other shooters because I cannot use sticks for the life of me
Great video. It's a short but sweet video on why Gyro is pretty good, and we could use more channels dedicated to gyro aiming.
I subbed to your channel, and I'll be sure to check out the other videos you made.
Man I started playing gyro and it feel so natural idk why
nah bro, if you ain't jerkin it or dancing just to move the controller then you ain't doing it right.
for reals though, hopefully more games natively support gyro-aiming since it's hell to configure shit manually (and I lose all control when going back to consoles)
When I configured a Dual Sense to play PC shooters by converting it to mouse and keyboard input, I just grabbed a pad and pen (instead of taking screenshot pics with my iPhone) and told myself “look how smart I’m acting today!”
“Hmmmmm….” *jots down notes on pad*
“Ah yes, and the square button should be assigned to the R key for reloading!”
*I scan my notes and the hot key table*
“…and we don’t have enough buttons for all these skills and stims. Better create a new activator. Double tapping X can activate super speedy dodge instead!”
This is how things went when I configured Rage 2. That game required a stupidly huge amount of hot keys to be assigned to a controller. Bad enough it had around 10 guns. It had to have quasi-magical powers AND a bunch of secondary equipment to use as well. I’ll tell anyone this: if you can set up Rage 2 for gyro, every other game will be a breeze.
It is not only about shooting - dual analog feels like controlling mech.
Rotational aim assist, recoil reduction aim assist, head lock aim assist, So many new aim assist. On mobile only pubg mobiles respect low aim assist meta like aa only works when you fire, aa dont work on snipers or gun after some range, need to prone and crouch for recoil control so people where forced to play gyro more, no aa on custom tdm & br room. + on mobile in Asia we didn't had console so we never build thumbs muscle memory so easily learn gyro but devs still add insane aa. And they think why so many people played pubg even if it had so many fps drop and Splatoon 3 won this year best online multiplayer
Ive used gyro on cod mobile and its helped with my aim on console a lot, still not completely used to it but ill get there
fortnite on the switch has had gyro since day one
kinda sucks xbox controllers are the same for about 16 years, they just change the look about 3 years in development
it’s a shame splatoon wasn’t the technical revolution that pushed gyro aiming into the market.
You take away aim assist a lot of these controller channels will get blasted until they get a mnk or learn to use gyro
I love gyro aiming
Totally agree. Although Xbox doesn't have a gyro so I guess this probably makes a difficult situation for developers. Do you make your game PlayStation exclusive? Do you still allow aim assist on Xbox? Or do you just not use gyro at all and release on both systems equally.
Xbox can make gyro controllers, they basically didn't change much on the series x controllers also using gyro should be an option and not forced like with the Wii days and gradually Aim Assist can be phased out by giving people time to adjust to the new style of console aim
Switch has it so it's not really fair that playstation people can get the option as well
As wild as it seems I feel like aim assist makes people complacent with being bad. I grew up on PC and am super comfortable with mouse and keyboard. But I've seen people that hardly ever use it and it's a struggle when they first start. I hate gyro aim on games where I'm just playing it casually because I end up using it when I don't want to. But I never thought about using it for micro movements in shooters. It makes a ton of sense, that's basically what I do on mouse and keyboard with a low sens and high mouse acceleration with rawaccel on flick movements.
Exactly! I'm curious to know what casual games you tried with motion controls.
Bro this video deserves a million views
I was really good in Call of Duty Mobile (highest rank and played 5 hours of ranked a day) and I played with Gyro. My aim on my phone was really good and so much better than with mouse.

I got a steam deck and tried flick+gyro and as pc gamer for more than 20yrs… it is hard 😢. I like the trackpad on the steam controller and the steam deck but I know flick+gyro is far superior than the normal dual joystick. I will try to adapt better to the flick+gyro as I’m starting to have less interest in playing in front of my pc and more on the couch/bed with controller or steam deck. Btw steam deck let you use gyro+flick stick in any game
It can be especially hard to activate both gyro and flickstick at the same time when you are still trying to get used to it. I have a playlist of shorts here on the channel with tips for help you get used to it, hope it helps, good luck!
@@FlickStickVids played some doom with gyroflick , the hard part now is to reposition my crossair, and playing with the steam deck it self when I tilt the screen the view angles are not the most comfortable… I guess it is way better using some controller.
That say I can play it better then using the dual joysticks
@@IAcePTI I see... This is a very common problem, if you want to give it another chance, I have this tutorial on how to fix this issue. th-cam.com/video/AfPPLjneoRQ/w-d-xo.html

@@FlickStickVids I did saw that video, but the steam deck doesn’t need one button to turn gyro on/off as the joystick have capacitive sensor and detects if my finger is on top, if it is the gyro turns one if I take the finger of the joystick it turns off. I guess one button to reset the cursor to the horizontal level was a great idea but it dident happen xD.
I’m going to rewatch the video, I really like this gyro stick way of using the controller… hope to see better support in the future as I believe that this is the way to use the controllers and it can get close or even better than mouse keyboard (insta rotate to one direction can’t be done with mouse keyboard).
@@FlickStickVids Some games i find it easier to use the trackpad + gyro, for example control and red dead redemtion 2. problem on pc is that you have to either use action layers or modeshift on aim downn sights to use mouse gyro. most games on pc dont allow for mixed input, because pc developers have not cought on to this. some pc devs even forget about true mouse aim on pc and just translate rightstick to mouse on a pc game. The pc port of Sunset overdrive did this before they fixed it to normal raw mouse input.
Right now i have played this game on the deck and on pc with both a steamcontroller and a dualsense. both are great for that game. I ried uncharted on pc with a dualsense and i could not get the right stick sensitiviy right when i used aim down sights. On console you have the problem that they use the right stick for the gyro. Wich is tied to the ingame velocity instead of the displacement of the mouse. So no aim accelaration. Splatoon seems to have a good setting, but i dont knwo if that game has mouse like controls or right stick gyro. I have both a nexus controller and an armor x pro, but depending on the games look mechanic this can feel good or really bad.
They make alot of money on broken analog sticks so they wont make thisbstandard. On pc this is my fave way to play.

Nice.
My dude the flick stick/ gyro combo can easily outperform mouse and keyboard.
Awesome video
Thanks!
Gyro aim is pretty cool, it should always be an option. I tried it with team fortress 2, but it’s almost impossible to rocket jump the same way keyboard and mouse players can.
I use gyro and can rocket jump perfectly fine. Trying using a higher sensitivity
Look, gyro aiming is fantastic. But accessibility requires the ability to turn it off. And aiming with a stick without gyro or aim assist feels awful.
The fact that devs forgot that and somehow regressed absolutely baffles me
Unfortunately since Xbox doesn't support gyro were stuck with another generation of gyro not being standard. Common Xbox L that's also and L for everyone.
Never used gyro. Started using it and hated it
Started using it together with aim assist and it became somewhat passable. No way i am turning that off
Or i just won't play fps games on my deck/controller. That is a solution too
Do you like playing shooters with mouse?

When I play gyro on phone, I’m way better then if I play MW2022 gyro. Idk why but it’s weird to use gyro on controller, but I’m WAY better with phone. But I guess i just need to play more
P.S: besides ppl not wanting to adapt to Gyro, I’m pretty sure Xbox controllers don’t have gyro, so you couldn’t force everyone on it
It probably doesn't feel as good for you because you prefer Roll mode instead of Yaw mode. Meaning that for you, it is more natural to roll the controller (like you would with a phone), instead of tilting horizontally left and right.
Unfortunately no one explains this part, especially in-game, with examples and etc.
Other than that, no one wants to force gyro on anyone, it would just be nice to have the option.
@@FlickStickVids thanks for explaining bro extremely appreciate it 👍
Imo in COD and other FPS games, aim assist needs a slight nerf, with gyro being suggested more with ps4 players. While ppl definitely wouldn’t use it at first, it would definitely develop a following if is consistently added to games. (Normal aim assist shouldn’t be taken from people tho)
Also,if I use the roll feature, would I hold the ps4 controller identical to a mobile player using gyro?
Your welcome!
About your question, you can hold the controller just the way you hold a phone, but you don't have to.
You can rest the controller on your lap, on a table, keep it raised with your elbows on the table... Whatever you feel more comfortable with. Just test Yaw and Roll mode to find out what works best for you!
I would love it if gyro was presented in a tutorial, and the game took the time to show the difference between the 2 modes. Anyway, hope this helps!
Can i play apex legends with gyro on ps5 😢plzz help
Nope, the devs never properly implemented this feature. Probably because there aren't enough people asking for it. But you can be one of the people that do!

@@Creshex8 did you even watch the video? gyro is not a replacement to stick camera controls, it’s supplementary. it’s what aim assist was supposed to be
I know. “Stick players” can operate as shorthand for stick-only players or stick+AA. I worded my comment that way, because the idea behind such a mode is that a stick player starts with AA, then you kill him and he becomes a stick-only player. Just about every gyro method I know of uses the sticks. There is no need to clarify. Anyone who uses gyro knows what is meant by a stick player.
@@realchiknuggets it can be used supplementary but also completely, flick stick or a button to freeze gyro and readjust work great, ive played whole game zero stick, its great.
