I watched a video from you a little past a year ago showing this pick and magnet. I love my Hermit pick and 254lb pull magnet. Best all around digging tool and nothing better for the water. Thanks again for showing us some great tips. Happy Hunting!
Great video. I've used an Ice Axe and I have lengthened the handle and epoxied a large Neodymium magnet to the end of the handle. Your videos inspire me to get off my duff and get out there. I had a low end Garrett metal detector and gave it to my Grandsons. They love it. I Miss it! Now I have to find one I can afford.
I don't know if I have ever posted before but I sure have enjoyed your videos. I started watching because of the metal detectin but I also enjoy your water hunts, the civil war stuff is cool but so is the modern stuff you find in the river. just wanted to say hello and I look forward to your 2016 hunts as well as my own.
I have a question. You mentioned that the Garrett pick has the magnet attached to the pick head end which would be good for finding gold nuggets it the desert. Maybe I heard that wrong or misunderstood what you said because magnets will only pick up ferrous metals. I still liked the video because I am going to be purchasing the magnet and a pick soon.
He meant that gold prospectors often use a magnet on a pick to quickly locate nails and other iron debris. Most of the time they are using a metal detector that is very sensitive to small objects with no discrimination so they must dig everything.
very informative video, thanks for posting! lol, i've done the magnet on a rope thing and my very first toss with it landed about 30 feet from shore and smack dab between 2 huge granite rocks! it was only pure luck that i managed to get it clear and retrieved. after that, most of my fishing has been from a wharf, basically dropping it straight down rather than pulling it through the rocks. ;)
Hey Beau, still looking forward to a tour of you display room and some of the cool stuff you've found over the years. I find it interesting that you took a hobby and made an occupation out of it. It's quite an unusual story. If showing your finds are a security concern then of course I/we (subs) would certainly understand. Thanks for all the interesting videos and I sure look forward to the new ones. I grew up right beside a brook that had an old sawmill on it in Canada. I want to go back one day and look around.
cool video as always i love to build things i used to graple fish with 6 grapleing hooks which is a metal pipe with heavy wire as the tines and the pipe is filled with lead the tie them on a rope and toss it into the river to get fishing lures and 2 lbs triangle sinkers in the st clair river in port huron michigan before i was a diver diving is way easier you can get more stuff sinkers and lures spreaders and sell them back to the fishermen pays for your air fills fast on the sinkers a buck a pound beats the tackel shop prices lol
Was watchinh your animal saving video's i really loved the little fox :) I love how you love the animals you are a great man i you got all my respect subscribed immidiatly Keep The Great Work :D!!!
thanks for the video, i like the technical stuff its really good for people like me trying to get started! bought a couple magnets before this, thanks for the website info!
To keep from losing your magnet cut the bottom out of a 16 ounce soda bottle or larger if needed and feed the rope from your magnet through the bottom of the soda bottle out through the top of the soda bottle! Super glue the magnet all the way around the bottom of the bottle till you get a solid hold of the magnet and the bottle together! Also drill holes in the bottle so it will fill full of water AND disharge water just as fast! This should keep you from losing your magnet! Just a thought!
Another good video. Thanks Oh get back chopping that would Lol you going to need it. I first thought it was one of the three little pigs house that got blew down when I seen all that on the ground. Hahaha you are a favorite I always watch ASAP.
You got me into metal detecting Mr chiggs! I'm happy to start going just trying to figure out how to use the detector , its aLil hard being that iron is so present in the fort valley that pebbles stick to my magnet haha
just tore apart 2 old hard drives for the neodymium magnets. They seem to be really powerful. I'm guessing the best way to attach them to a stick will be super glue. What do you think?
Not dealing with pick magnets but bear with me. Microwave ovens, the emitting unit on them there are one or two magnets that tend to have good pulling power. The higher wattage the oven the more pull on the magnet. I used two of the higher power oven magnets stacked pole wise and then a retainer through for the rope for retrieval. Works for me but all I've ever found was a soup can lid. Yeah, one can buy bigger more powerful magnets but on the cheap they work rather well.
Nice video! Thanks for the explanation as you go into enough details for those who have no idea what they are doing but have a lot of HOPE! LOL Thanks again! Happy New Year! I hope that 2016 is the best year for you and yours than the last year! ;-)
My wife just got me a bounty hunter tracker iv for Christmas. Can you make a video about rules of detecting. What you can keep. What and where you cant. That kind of thing. Thanks love your videos.
hey my name is Nick I live in Santa Rosa California I really like you're videos . i prospect for gold and metel detect the motherload mainly. as you said picking up gold with a magnet , is there something you're not telling me? lol
Beau I was wondering if there is a reason when you find a hole full of bullets you don't just wave the magnet around inside. just one of your recent vids you hand picked them all.
Beau I went to K&J magnetics typed in MMS AY 0 and got nothing// (NO MMS -listings??)There listings show RX038DCB-N52 1"x3/8 80# mol ???$--13.00 BUT $17.00 shipping????
+Beau Ouimette lol how's that going for you? have you come across William Wirt and Sarah Winchester yet or all those killed by the Winchester, be careful if you feel the need to start building mansions you're in too deep :)
+Beau Ouimette dunt know if its good or not ..people here are not interested on history as much as you do ..most of the finds here r ww2 relics ..sometimes they explode -_-

Wait... what? At 4:57 you said "That magnet (Garretts) might be fine if you're looking for gold nuggets in the desert." So does Garrett make gold magnets now?

I converted an Ice Axe to be my "pick". I lengthened the handle and added a neodymium magnet to the end of the handle.
ha ha "pickhead"! learning from your mistakes is cheaper for me, thanks beau!
Do you ever put some kind of strap on the handle? Thanks for sharing....Rhino
Awesome information Beau. 👍👍👍
☀️I need a pick☀️thanks for great information ☀️

Hey Beau I'm thinking about starting detecting in UK and was wandering what detectors would be good to start off with
Love your channel, man.
Another good video. Thanks
Oh get back chopping that would Lol you going to need it. I first thought it was one of the three little pigs house that got blew down when I seen all that on the ground. Hahaha you are a favorite I always watch ASAP.
I have the Lesche lightweight mini pick and was looking for a magnet so what size magnet would be right?
Great video! Curious as to the difference between these and other magnets, such as {rare earth} or say old speaker magnets?
you should contact discovery or the history channel you deserve your own show
You got me into metal detecting Mr chiggs!
That works, but despite being powerful HDD magnets have nothing on a 10-20$ magnet, I recommend you get one like he shows in his video.
Beau, did you post a link for the guy that makes your picks?

Wait... what? At 4:57 you said "That magnet (Garretts) might be fine if you're looking for gold nuggets in the desert." So does Garrett make gold magnets now?
+Eazy Money They use the magnet to pick up and remove any iron; tends to make it easier to then metal detect for the gold nuggets
+Steven Hurt I was being facetious...Although it would be nice to have a magnet to catch gold. ; )
Lol you make me laugh so much xx
