Attaching a eye on the large magnet is easy. Use a 3/8 stainless steel countersunk bolt going through the magnet. Use a 3/8 coupling nut on the back side of the magnet, and use a 3/8 eye screwed into the coupling nut. I picked up one of their large magnets a few months ago, and this is how I attached an eye.

2 solutions to the un-threaded magnet dilemma would be either find someone with a drill press and a set of thread taps. They can thread the hole for an eye bolt. - OR - Use a flat head screw (bolt for countersunk hole) with a long nut then an eye bolt. A possible solution to the magnets attracting to each other's flat faces would be to reverse the direction of one and you can only be pinched by around 1/3rd the area of the flat face. I was thinking if a person were to make a wooden box for it with a 2x4 bottom, it might be enough to keep from attracting to metals and other magnets enough to make it safer to handle. Just a thought though since distance seems to be a big factor here. I enjoyed your video very much. Thank you for sharing.
I bought the MMS G Y8, with the hook. You can't stress enough just how strong these magnets are. But with that being said, don't expect to go tossing these into rivers and creeks and hauling in large items. Mud, leaves, and muck are going to probably be covering the items you're really looking for. You said it best when you suggested you locate things with the detector first. Then you can try to remove some of the debris with your foot before retrieving the find with the magnet.

very helpful video. i went fishing with an inexpensive retrieval magnet just to see what it was like, and i liked it. wound up with a lot of junk, fishing hooks, and three fishing knives. found three folding chairs that i couldn't get out of the water (i'm glad about that!).
I recommend you put that eye bolt down through the top of a cut-off small soda bottle, then screw the magnet onto it. The dome-like shape of the bottle will minimize the magnet's hanging up on junk, but it won't interfere with its attraction for ferrous items.
To limit the resistance (mud factor) you could mount the larger magnet on the side of the pick handle instead of the end. The magnet would slide into the mud edgewise and not "mash" into the mud. But, I recommend this only to the brave and muscular!
In my day I always used a 'keeper' which is a flat disk which sits on the magnet when not in use. This prevents any accidental sticking to anything. Of course it needs a ring or lug so it can be removed easily for use. We used to leave them on the pavement for pranks or put them in the work site drink fund. With the neodymium magnets a copper or aluminium disk with tinplate attached would be best, nonferrous on the magnet.
I watched this when it first came out and it's still hilarious when the magnets nearly touch and when the pick handle sticks to the big magnet. crying laughing!!!

They're called Neodymium magnets. I like a Neo. magnet 52, that's almost the strongest strength. Some things to keep in mind, they're Strong, don't get pinched,. Don't let the magnet get hot, heat destroys their magnetism. don't let them get scratched and like you said, they are very brittle and will break. They can also be bought on ebay.

When transporting how do you prevent from denting your own truck,or is it like my truck bed, stuck to the side, always a tempting tie down that I am always afraid to try. I mean, would you suggest a wood box, or a cooler is better ? One thought that I was toying with was cutting up a commercial cutting board, screws and piano hinge of stainless steel as not to collect any pesky iron filings, or at least less. Great another project, like I haven't enough of them in the works, or you wouldn't have any idea about that. Ever been able to anchor your kayak to a metal bridge or something by using the magnet, or does it not work that well? Rope,pulley , and kayak fishing with magnet- making a vertical and flotation lift in deeper water possible? Pulley, rope, rope lock, anchoring system acceptable in a kayak bow, or does the stuff interfere with performance? Or is the keep it simple approach better when parking the kayak to dig?

wow i went to the site to look for a magnet one of them was 300 lbs that's crazy and a fast way to lose one if it gets stuck to a car or something heavy. how much lifting should one get the 96 lbs or the 60 lbs I now it is just prefrence but witch one would you choose? great video

They're some of the smallest magnets that I have seen people using for magnet fishing. Amazon Carrie's magnets that are 1200 lb and that's a two-sided magnet I think it's only 600 pounds on each side so you're better off getting one of the flat magnets for jigging and they are a thousand pound magnet. I can't find anything stronger. I also take plastic dip and cover my magnet with a thin layer especially if you're going to use it in saltwater

My question to you and all magnet fishermen is, "Can I make a good useful magnet to use out of the 100 or so H.D. magnets that I have stored away, still on their metal plates? Chigg..I need to Secure Several Magnets on a Board and that board to be secured on the bottom of my Power Scooter( Removable of course) for when I Ride my Scooter at the Day AFTER the County Fair_Grounds , hopefully collecting coins and jewelery, etc. and be able to Remove this "Board of Magnets" and guess were else? were Civil War Battles were and attracting Loose Civil War Bullets and Musket Balls and of course stop every so often to remove what it has collected.. I assume use Flat Bar Magnets? Horizonital Bar Magnets and how to Drill Holes in them to Drill Stainless steel Deck Screws thru them and into the Mounting Board that I can attach to my Vets Scooter .. Thanks- Dennis

Re Eyebolts ,,, you can get eye bolts with a female thread, that is an internal thread so you can use a countersunk machine screw through the magnet.

You can use a countersunk bolt and an allthread coupling to thread into an eyebolt on the unthreaded magnet. Instead of grinding the nut off.

For your large magnet you could use a Stainless Steel Flat-Head Socket Cap Screw and a stainless Eye Nut. Fastenal, Grainger, McMaster Carr, etc.

The large magnet I would try and tap and thread it I think. Might be easier overall than cutting and grinding. Great Vid.

There are countersunk bolts, that exactly fit the unthreaded magnet whole. They have a cone like head.

I use countersunk 6mm screws threaded from underside that screws into an eye ring on top. Layer five 50mm neo mags

stainless screw so it will not rust out as fast
I attach mine by using a flat head stainless screw and a hex threaded coupling into which I three the eyelet
There are other options, like a big threaded flat head Bolt, will fit flush through the bottom, with a nut type eyehook

Ive seen a small neo dynium mag pick up two balls and a sword. not from a river mind. but the mags chip very easily. and yes MIND YER FINGERS!!
