    Hey I have a Problem with my Google Drive Shared Folder. So basically the Company I am working for created a (Shared Folder) and they said that I can upload as many Files as I want on it, the Problem is, every time I upload something in that Shared Folder, it takes my space, and apparantly it should take up their space. How can I fix this Problem?

    • @toddparks4645
      @toddparks4645 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually companies have accounts with Google that will provide more storage than you could ever use in Drive. Is this not the case?
      The answer to your question is: No, when you add files to a shared folder in Google Drive, the files do not count towards your personal Google Drive storage quota. Instead, the storage space used by the files is taken from the shared drive's storage quota, which is separate from individual users' storage quotas. This means that you can collaborate with others on shared files without worrying about running out of storage space in your personal Google Drive account. However, keep in mind that if you make a copy of a file from a shared drive and move it to your personal Google Drive folder, it will count towards your personal storage quota.

      @@toddparks4645 is it possible that it automatically makes a copy? Because when I upload I do not intend to make a copy, does it have to do something with the setting?

    I have been given “Shared” access to a Google Drive. My current allotment of free space on ‘my’ Google Drive is almost at capacity. My problem is that when I upload files to other shared Google Drives, my own Google Drive allotment is reduced. Is their a specific way to upload files and have the space allotments for these files be assigned to the other drive that is receiving the files?

  • @dolezaljacob
    @dolezaljacob ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the explanation, I have found one possible limitation with a Shared drive, as it requires by default for every user to be assigned to it at a least as a "viewer" and then it is impossible to hide anything from him at this drive. You have to either:
    - setup another drive, where this user won't be present
    - change one core setting, but then they will see it only in "shared with me" and not as a shared drive
    Correct me if I am wrong.

    if you have multiple folder within the shared drive, can you share only one folder?
    i seem to only be able to give access to everything or nothing

    • @ParksandEducation
      @ParksandEducation  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct.
      A shared drive is just that - a collaborative drive that is shared with anyone you invite.
      If you wanted to just share a folder with someone, put it in your personal drive, and then give access to that folder to the individual.

  • @AndreFavron
    @AndreFavron 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Todd. Thanks for this. I have a question about the shared drive "ownership". If I share a document how does that affect the storage limits? I use multiple Google accounts (one for my personal life, one for my writing, and one for my photography). If I share a document between two or more accounts does that mean that no one has it in the 'storage' percentage?

    • @ParksandEducation
      @ParksandEducation  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a great question.
      I’m on an educator account which used to be unlimited, but now there’s a ceiling (which is still a ridiculous amount of storage).
      Content in shared drives counts toward your organization's storage quota. Individual users can only upload 750 GB each day between My Drive and all shared drives. Users who reach the 750-GB limit or upload a file larger than 750 GB cannot upload additional files that day.

When I shared a subfolder in shared drives to a schoolmember that hasn't rights to the main folder, this person finds the folder or document in shared with me and not in the shared drive of the schoolmember.
