    Great job getting that old backhoe running. I also enjoy finding old equipment and giving them some TLC. Love seeing that old gear cleaned up, new paint and running again. Best hobby ever 👍

    Great videos! I can't believe how positive you remain through some of these challenges. It's those challenges and the fact you show them that keep me coming back for more.
    Projects NEVER go as planned.... They tend to be 1 step forward 3 steps back, but each step back gives more direction to the next step forward!

    Your persistence is admirable. FYI, two gaskets on a cartridge oil filter will give you a massive power oil flush. One of those things I learned as a teenager. You only do it once.

      That might have been the second time I had done it, but I think it'll probably be the last. I had checked for an existing seal, but it was hard to see and I had painted over it a bit, so I didn't see it there. Next time, I'll be checking *really* well.

    Trial and error are the best teachers. Sometimes you have to jump in and see what happens, and if it doesn't work, figure out what went wrong and do it better. Great content!

    Just to add if you have transmission lock make sure truck is stationary before you apply as it locks with a pawl , if applyed when moving will break don't want you to have another problem to fix , thanks for great video s can't wait for more !!

    My father had a Massey Ferguson loader with an automatic transmission. It had a Y shaped pedal on the right and let you drive just as fast forward as reverse. The problem was it didn't have brakes. We overhauled them several times, but they never lasted more than a week or so. The brakes were disc brakes, back when they were "new technology" and they always failed. I can't tell you how many times I would have to drag the bucket on the ground to stop the tractor. We called it "The Yellow Bear" since it had a big mouth (the bucket) and four paws (the tires).

    My Dynahoe would just die out of nowhere from time to time and I knew it was starving for fuel but I didn't know why. After I had to pull the cylinder head for a bad valve, rebuild the blower, water pump, fuel pump, make my own exhaust manifold and fix 4 dozen other issues from the previous owner created, I finally found the issue. At the bottom of my fuel tank was a 90 degree street elbow, the previous owner would leave the fuel cap off while parked under trees while he went and bought diesel and searched for a funnel and whatever else he needed. Turned out there were pine needles trapped in that small 1/4" NPT 90 and once I cleaned them out it ran like a champ. He also dropped a tree on the machine bending the levelling bar and breaking the exhaust manifold, hence the reason I made one from 3" x 3" box beam. That fuel problem haunted me for 2 years and I couldn't find it!!, the previous owner beat the shit out of that machine and NEVER fixed nor greased nor tightened anything!! I hated that machine but spent 6 months fixing it up and immediately sold it and replaced it replacing it with a 1984 John Deere 500C.

    I think you have done a great job on your mechanican, I don't think you should beat yourself up on the gaskets leaking mechanics have those same problems even after doing it for years just part of keeping machinery alive. I would like to suggest to becarefull on that old machine I noticed when you had bucket arms in air to work on in a previous video you had a block of wood and a bottle jack for cribbing I have saw those jacks break into at a weird angle lot of weight if something does give out pin you against machine or crush ya with nobody around. There are a lot of horror stories where I'm from go to work and don't come back, be bad to loose a good technician because of a honest mistake. Great job though appreciate you sharing your story very well layed out and really inspiring. Just always remember no matter what be safe

      @@WaldosWorld I thought you had a safety. Just get a piece of angle and put it on the cylinder rod between the packing gland and boom joint. That'll hold the boom up and off your head. And a cheap fix!

    Remember it has a torque converter this would be why you need to add power to go up the hill

    Yes I agree best way check fluid look level while engine is running , I have a Perkins 4108 with Borg Warner auto transmission same results buy the look of things , are you running 12*or 24 volts , have you secondry brake ,or transmission lock , fantastic video as usual , keep up the good work !!

      Thanks for the tip, I'll check it while it's running. It's a 12V system. It has a parking brake, but I honestly haven't looked into it yet to see how it works. Perkins have made some good engines. I have a 4.203 in my Massey.

    6:21 I'm a truck driver and few non-mechanic skilled other drives have asked me if I have a mechanic back ground I say "No I've always daily driven older 17-45 year old cars and pick up that will brake down on me cause previous negligent owners skipped maintenance on them, plus im a car guy and (everything with wheels and engine) guy that's how I have mi mechanic knowledge it's not rocket science it's like building a puzzle back to its specs... to be a truck driver you have to have at least a little mechanic knowledge if not your gana be screwed out here waiting on a service truck for 4hrs when you could just swapped a coolant hose a fuel filter a belt or even recharge your A/C your self and be on your way in no time"...

    Maybe 2 years ago but worth sticking on the comments ,Anybody who says they havn't made a mistake are telling porki pies. They should be avoided. You learn from your mistakes and spread the word to your "pupils" I'm north of 70 years old and i have made plenty mistakes. I have also learned from them.

    tank bolts on remove after drawing and maybe take to car wash or radiator shop to have boiled out.

    I've always maintained that for a really good class in repairs, go to your local pick-n'-pull self service wrecking yard. Pay your 2.00 admission (or whatever it is now) and tear stuff apart to your heart's content to find out what caused the failure. Try to mix and match. Observe what real hackery is, and learn to avoid it.

    Enjoying your videos Waldo. Just a few pointers. Your engine sounds like it is idling too high. The transmission is like a automatic transmission in a vehicle. It has a torque converter. Which means like a centrifugal clutch. So giving it throttle to move is what it is supposed to do. You are on point with the fuel system. Very neat looking machine. Keep up the great work!

      Thanks, Zack! Hmm...it may well be idling too high, although it sounds higher than it is because it's a 2-stroke. I actually bought an optical RPM measurement tool a while back, so I should probably measure it to see if it needs adjustment

      @@WaldosWorld yes I am familiar with 2 stroke diesels and they sound like they are screaming but actually they are not turning more rpms than a 4 stroke diesel. I truly believe that it could be idled down about 300 rpm and then it would stop trying to drive away by itself. Not only that but putting it into gear at high idle speeds is like putting your car in drive with your foot pushing the accelerator down. To sum it up, I don't want you to have to do the transmission next! The engine sounds great! I love how it's not smoking after the rebuild. Great job sir!

    I'm enjoying these videos. Dynahoe was never a brand here in 🇬🇧. There's nothing wrong with those old style oil filters. It's worked fine for 40+ years. That filter does look vulnerable to getting ripped off by a stump. Is there a belly-pan to protect it?

    Love the Dynahoe Videos! I recently bought a property with a Dynahoe 160 included with the purchase. It runs! One of the cylinders to the stabilizers leaks however, and needs some servicing. Seeing you put it through all these makeovers is inspiring. Can I ask, where did you find all the filters? I've been trying to look up part numbers but to no avail. Love watching! Keep up the great work.

      Thanks! The WIX website has the correct oil and fuel filters.
      The hydraulic filter listed was not correct for mine (a Series 3), but I think it's correct for the more common older style with round fenders. If you have a series 3, the filter is a Marvel M3336-7110, which isn't made anymore. Killer Filter makes a replacement, part no. 103-6433.
      The air filter isn't listed, but I think it's a WIX 42580.
      Lastly, There's a transmission filter that I haven't changed yet, so I don't know what it is, but I plan on doing a video that covers that sometime in the near-ish future.

      For mine, it says series 3 on it (though most seem to have the decals worn off by now) and it has the squarish fenders (as opposed to the round fenders found on the earlier models)

      @@WaldosWorld I really appreciate all the info!! Mine seems to be 1964. I found the registration in the manual! One last question and I will stop bugging you, I promise! How did you manage to find all the filters? From the old parts numbers? It doesn't seem that any of the suppliers speak "Dinosaur" as parts numbers. The hydraulic oil filter seems to be the only one without a casing and all the info has rubbed off on it. I have a double brake pedal so I am assuming it's not a series 3? Which thank you for the video about the brakes :) because mine don't work either!

    That's how I have learned everything is by diving in and research
    I have a 140 with the same transmission and no dip.tick
    do you know the length of the dipstick is so I can fabricate one.

      27-1/2" from the full marking to the flange where the dipstick contacts the top of the fill tube. It's another 7/8" to the low fluid marking

      Yeah, there's a bit of slop in the bucket pins. I definitely plan on painting it! In fact, I've already bought the paint.

      I think some Dynahoes came from the factory with 4 in 1 buckets. I'd imagine they can be pretty handy.

    check trans fluid level sounds like it is still low. I have two of these hoes an oldon't "C" model which is the same as a 160 and a 190 . My 160 did all the things yours is doing clogged fuel line and low trans fluid. They have the nickname Dynaslow for a reason but they are built like tanks!

      Being a shuttle drive it has a torque converter, so shift at idle speed and throttle is required to move. My Ford 3500 loader tractor is the same way. On a side note they don't really like neutral drops so be careful not to have high rpm when shifting

    Watch where you put you feet! If the bucket had dropped you would have been injured. Trapped under a heavy object is no fun.
