It is always nice to have the mechanics explained. It is hard for some teachers to take the time to fully explain the purpose and variations of poses. Thank you.
Really good pigeon pose tutorial! I don't see many ones where the mechanics and the anatomy of the intended stretches are discussed a lot, so this is an automatic like and subscribe.😀 I'm working with a bum surgery injury so stretches like these have become really hard for me again, and I have to start from scratch from the very easiest variations haha!
I have only recently started doing yoga and I am 58. I have a lot of issues with breathing ( that's what brought me to yoga) fibromyalgia, connective tissue tendonitis, and mild ankylosing spondylitis. I have been following various yin yoga videos on TH-cam, they are good but do not really give way to being able to adjust you poses depending on your flexibility, or really explaining how to place your hips ( upward tilt) in down dog. This video and all the ones I have seen so far from you, really explain the positions well.
I'm so glad I found your channel, because you really are answering all the questions I had all these years and at the same time reassuring me that I have been (mostly) on the right track positionwise! Thank you so much
I've binge watched all your videos. doing your stuff daily and it's helping me a ton with all of my joint issues. I have a torn meniscus and degenerative disc disorder but I still do a manual labor job every day so I need my joints to work. You're so wonderful and lovely for helping everyone else and you're a brilliant marketer to boot. I find myself looking for the card in your videos so I can see what else you can tell me about my body that I don't already know! Keep it up, you're amazing and beautiful, mind, body and soul!
Great video, I have been wondering about this pose! Knee wider than the hip is a great point which I hadn’t realized, and really good to know that the shin doesn’t have to be parallel :)
This was easily the best video of the pigeon pose I’ve ever watched. I was able to follow along while also gaining more information about the stretch thank you
Love the breakdown of this pose! I could not understand why I can’t get my shin parallel to the top of the mat, now I do! Thank you…off to the mat to try!
Thanks Livin, I’m revisiting my pigeon, after I asked my instructor for a frank and honest discussion on my weaknesses and she directed me to hipflexors and glutes. I have a torn meniscus (which yoga has helped via knee strength) so I concentrate a lot on protecting the knee and do not spend enough time holding my torso up. The knee past the hand is a good tip, and although I’m not fond of furniture in yoga, I’ll try a bolster under my leading thigh and work down through a block, blanket and without over time as I correct my form. It would be great if sometimes you can find a less athletic/flexible person to demonstrate with, so we can think “oh…that’s me getting into this pose…THATS what I look like!!” 😄
Your advice of taking videos to follow the development of the moves and the flexibility is one of the best advices I got from you. You help me a lot for my climbing. Thank you Liv!
Very helpful. Your channel is my favorite yoga channel. You explain things very clearly and your flows are so creative. I love the purple theme of this video. One question for you - doesn’t wearing socks make it slippery on the mat?
Please do more of those tutorials on poses, these is SO needed! Recently I tried side crow for the first time and I laugh at myself, thinking that isn't going to happen in a foreseeable future. Then I found your video and after a few tries of very conscious recollection of your instructions I've managed to get into a side crow for a second. Maybe standing split next? or camel pose? or maybe scorpion dog. Pretty please :)
I love your channel, your videos are so helpful and easy to follow! I would love to see a video about hamstring flexibility as my hip flexibility is naturally quite good and my hamstrings are where I struggle 😊
So clear and informative! Thank you for making this video! 💕 Question... I injured myself back in Feb this year doing this pose. I bent the lower portion of the back leg up towards me to get a deeper stretch in my quads and hip flexor and as I brought it back down, my kneecap slipped to the side causing injury... Of course, I hadn't seen this video at that point (I'm watching it for the first time now in November lol), but any idea what may have caused the back knee cap to slip in terms of my positioning of that back leg, a muscle imbalance, or anything else... The knee is stronger recovering well after a couple of months of being out of action, and even longer not being able to/being too scared to try the pose again. I really would love to go back to doing this pose, however as I haven't found any other stretches that work as well for my quads and hipflexors. I know it's a long shot, but do you have any theories or suggestions?
Thank you so much, i understand more about where i need to be now and less stressed about what i 'should' be doing!! Love your videos they are so helpful 👍
I had/ have really tight hip flexors and a couple sports injuries from years back.I started my pigeon stretch on stairs with back foot on the bottom step and knee and shin on the 4th step. I can still stretch forward laying my torso onthe stairs and stretch my back foot by anchoring my toes onthe bottom step edge
You see so many variations of pigeon and I love how you give good directions for hitting different parts of the hips and glutes for people of varying flexibility.
Thanks for this helpful video. I’m so happy that I found your account on Instagram a year ago. You helped me a lot with different poses. I’m looking forward for the next videos. I love to “yoga with you” ☺️ Greetings from Austria 🇦🇹🧘♀️☀️
I am a huge fan of your videos, they have changed everything I thought I knew about my body and my flexibility / mobility. I am starting with pigeon pose to increase flexibility as I move towards being able to do the splits. With this goal in mind, how long should I be holding in pigeon pose? How often each week should I be doing pigeon? Any advice you have on this would be so helpful!
I'm definitely in love with these tutorials cause I'm learning a lot thanks to you! I'd love to see one about the side lunge (which makes me really struggle cause my bum keeps falling to the ground) and the baby grasshopper pose😊
@@Livinleggings yeah I followed that class and really enjoyed it, but I think a tutorial would help me to find out and correct my mistakes...so thank you for being always such a kind and helpful teacher!
A question I’ve always had about yoga is Have you always been flexible and that got you into yoga instruction or did you become flexible by doing yoga. I have known people who were always flexible and actually spent money to learn something they were already capable of doing. This to me is the red flag of yoga. Stretching can improve one’s flexibility and I’ll do that but I’ll never call it yoga.
It is always nice to have the mechanics explained. It is hard for some teachers to take the time to fully explain the purpose and variations of poses. Thank you.
Great information! And I love the passed out dog on the couch 😂

I like the practicality of you explaining this. thank you.
Thank you! It was very clear and helpful! Exactly what I was looking for!
thank you this was so helpful as one of my hips is tighter than the other
Nice dog transition at 8:22, that is one relaxed pup.
This is awesome! Thanks for taking the time to make this video.

So happy to hear that! And yes I've been meaning to do more, will get back to them soon!
Your videos are always so helpful and informative! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you. So well explained and the stretch or variation lying supine is great too. 🙏🏽
Thank you so much for this informative vid

thank you! I'll make the next class I film a good hamstring focussed one!
I used to put all my weight on my hand after watching this video I learned how to do it correctly thank you very much
This was wonderful thank you! I never thought to make pigeon into an isometric stretch like you show🙌
Wowzeers Thankyou Liv I have never had pigeon pose broken down for me in such detail learnt a lot 🙌🤗
Liv, you have the best outfits!!! Came for the anatomy and yoga lesson, stay for the fits
Thank for for this very interesting tutorial
Thanks! I’ve wondered about a proper pigeon forever! Excellent demo.

@@Livinleggings yeah I followed that class and really enjoyed it, but I think a tutorial would help me to find out and correct my mistakes...so thank you for being always such a kind and helpful teacher!
Amazing, thank you
Very informative, thank you!
Thanks!!
What if you already have an externally-rotated hip that has caused some problems? Is this pose recommended?
This was awesome. Really helpful. Glad I've already subscribed 👍👍
Nice and clear , thank you very much 😊
lol. the dog though!
Great tutorial! Thanks a lot Liz. Odd question, why the socks? :-)
Thanks for this video
Ok so this was excellent.
I totally overlooked the dog resting on the couch.
What a lovely lady. 😊
BEAUTIFUL, LOVELY
why cant I save her videos?
how do I improve my hips they always hurt?
It feels okay to my hips, but perilous to my knees, both of which have past injuries that will never quite heal.
you are aprox. the same age as my university teacher. But omg, I fall in love with you
8:21 It took me WAY too long to realize that was a dog on the couch and not a cat!

❤❤❤❤
I can’t do this properly, and I’ve been doing yoga for awhile. Do I just give up?
I would say giving up would be quite a drastic measure! What do you mean by cant do it properly?
8:22 Downward dog
I'm pretty good at this one .mind you l am a pigeon 😮
❤❤
I want to stretch like Benny at the end of the video
I have no benefit from this position. Short legs and swollen veins.
you're soooo cute...
Nice feet
