Nene is the oldest female gorilla in captivity in Japan. She is estimated to be 50 years old, which is about 75 in human years.
She belongs to the Shabani Troop at the Higashiyama Zoo in Nagoya, Japan.
On this day, she glared at a Shabani who was messing with her and made him calm down.

I believe female gorillas become less interested in mating in their 30s. The silverbacks don't seem to understand this as I've seen in wildlife documentaries. Nene is well over 30, and she's been mating with Shabani well past expected. I'm hoping that Ai and Shabani will start to mate. I think Shabani would be a lot happier. I also think that Ai is going to have to be the dominant female at some point.
