My specific filter has it built into the side of it. So it came with a check valve and ball valve all plumbed already. But if you were to plumb it I would just use a T fitting, and a ball valve, possibly a check valve as well if you like. You would attach the T fitting sticking straight up to the intake into the filter. and on the T fitting: glue the check valve (The check valve is optional.) then glue the ball valve then just attach the blower with out glue I also would not glue the blower so you can remove it when not in use and replace it easily if it breaks. A drawing would make this more understandable, but hope this helps.
You did say you have the bog filters with lava rock and plants. But, what picks up the fine particles?? Have a landlord's koi pond on Maui.. Small dark bits of algae get thru the sand filter. The water was too black in algae particles to see the fish. I added a filter sock (that works) but need much more help. Any ideas?? Thx.. -Scotty.
In my pond I still have small particles floating around. To get rid of the very fine particles the filter socks work, filter floss, sieve filter, drum filter, etc. Do u have a uv light? That helps with algae. Otherwise if there is that much floating particles and u have a sand filter. It could be that the sand filter has not been cleaned for awhile. Therfore it is completely clogged with gunk, and new water and gunk just goes in and out without going through the sand filtration. But for fine particles definitely one of the above options.

I'm into pond lockdown mode with full coverage on top other than side ventilation. The skimmer main pump is stupid powerful and would eat major power so I just use a small mag drive pump in the skimmer at the bottom. TBH I actually don't clean it out now but likely should do that. It's got pretty big mesh though and the pump is small enough I figure what the heck. From the pump I just have a rubber hose going to a submerged plastic trash can kitchen type with 800 watts of heat and also a bubbler. The water flows out of there back into the pond and gives me an easy way to drain off water through at least the skimmer. I also have some bio balls in bags just hanging out around two spots, and a floating raft with some hydroton in mesh pots. My pH is a little low at 7.3 but not crazy low. TDS at 300 ppm with the water about 1/2 that. Anyway basically it's a contained system and so far able to keep at 70 F even with water changes. I do need to do more water changes to try to get the solids down some. Using the hose with siphon effect at the bottom to drain it but it's probably a bit mucky down there. No evidence of any floaters so far. I could drop the temp some but could be screwed if it gets really cold out. Right now it's 33 F and sort of sleeting.

Will a bigger pump be required if you have two tank filters?
Well it depends on the size of the filters. They have a certain flow rate that you do want to meet as well as not exceed.

Yes I have thought about that. But would have to take some more space from my moms garden to do so. But it is a possibility.
