How to get out of lag without restarting in The Sims 4!

- Just a quick demonstration of how I get out of the lag on Sims 4 without restarting my game.
NOTE: I play on PlayStation!!
If Esc/clicking on the 'Options Menu' doesn't work, I go next to 'Game Options' 'Lessons' 'Credits' etc. - as sometimes the sub-menus that these bring up snap me out of the lag. If none of those work - as they didn't in this demo - I click on my Sims calendar. For me, it's been a fix nearly every time, and I've barely ever had to restart my game since. Good luck, I hope it works for you too!

I often see LilSimsie simply opening the Options Menu and closing it really fast and it works for her. But I wonder if it has to do with her computer specs, if just doing that doesn't work for everyone.
It works for me and I play on a laptop.
I haven't tried that either, yeah maybe it's not enough unless you have a high spec PC, often just opening one menu wasn't enough to break the lag for me but it's so odd how different tricks work for everyone, they need to fix this 😂

I had 10fps max, so i tried open/close calendar and my 120fps came back like it used to be ! I was out of ideas but never expected to fix it with a calendar... THANK YOUU
Why do you play sims 4 on 120 fps lol save that for fast games. For sims it seems like stressing your graphics card for nothing 😅 cap it at 60
I have like 350fps when i play, this is why i cap it at 120, enough for my card to sleep lol, but anyway even if i cap it to 60 or not, i still have my calendar problem so the only thing Sims stress is my nerves^^ @@Digital111

I do that too but it works instantly, now though if the lag is that bad, I would open task manager and check my CPU, get rid of any widgets or browsers that are open and make sure it’s lower than 40%. It makes my game run faster.
Yeah that seems like a good workaround! I'm on console unfortunately so there's less options when it's being a nightmare 😅
@@beachfairy Oh, damn. Console players have it worse. Y’all can’t even have CC. I’ll die with the game’s original version of sims. Well that’s a good thing to do to get rid of lag!

2024 still have this laggy. this EA TS4 engine shitty, and they cant fix this issue, just like Rockstar GTA V loading screen.. until modder tries to find the issue & fix it.

All I do is save and then remove all my notifications, then my game is back to normal :)

This happens to me so often, I usually get so upset that I just close the game, delete the cache and saves and when I open the game again (after creating a new save) it doesn't lag, it seems that whenever my game auto saves it makes my game lag
Thanks for making this video I also experience game lag on Sims 4 PS4 it helps to try different things I also stopped the lagging but when it does it again I know how to stop it and console players should avoid using the skill building cheat it will lag your game after using it 2 times I avoid using that cheat after it had caused my game to lag
No problem yes exactly, sometimes helps to have a few different ways as using Esc or saving used to work for me then stopped... had to find other ways without quitting out as loading back in on console takes a while 😂 that's interesting about the cheat I might test that, was it only that one cheat that made your game lag?
@@beachfairy as someone who used to use the skill cheat constantly to make OP Sims, im pretty sure they are right about it causing lag. After I stopped using it and let my Sims get skills naturally, my games lag way less. I feel like skill cheats and occult cheats make at least make my game lag the most. I'm on PS4 though, and have alot of expansion packs so my game is laggy normally 🤣🤣😭

I play on a med-crappy laptop and pressing esc, waiting a second and then pressing it again works 90% of the time. Sometimes, if it's simulation lag and not game lag, I'll pause the game and wait a second, or even save while paused as a last resort. These always work!!
Also, in my personal experience, some particular mods make my game lag. Oni's food mod combined with Gran's cookbook make my cooking interactions lag as hell. With scco (the cooking overhaul one ykno) it was a nightmare. I also downloaded the "no empty venues when arriving" by weebersu(or smth like that, the dude that makes the more cas columns mod) and that also made my game lag _a lot_
So yea pressing esc helps a lot, but also maybe keep track of the mods you have in your game, in case they might be making a lot of difference
Sorry to ask but ssco lags with oni or gran’s cookbook? Because I have those mods and my game it’s been laggy as well.
@@swngtaess3014 sorry for the late reply, but yeah that might be why. I'd suggest trying to remove whatever "big" mods you have to see if they make a big performance difference, and consider if they're worth keeping

I would simply use the "press exit button" tactic, but that hasn't been working for me lately, and it's just silly that I play games with twice the graphics quality of this game and can run them at 90fps. I'll definitely try this method...actually, right now XD
Same! Just opening the options menu or other stuff people have said used to work for me, then stopped..I'm on console but people with high end PCs get the same issue so 🤷🏼♀️ the calendar sorts it 99/100x for me now! Good luck 😅
@@beachfairy Thanks. The calendar thing didn't work for me, but I did figure out another solution. For PC owners, there is something called a game bar that is tied to Microsoft/Xbox. It's super annoying because if you have a Windows PC, it is on by default. It's a program that runs in the background when you are playing games, and depending on your graphics card, it can hurt your PC's performance. I turned that off, deleted my thumbnailcache.package, restarted my PC, and no more problems 😂😂
Thanks for this video regardless. If I ever get a PS5 and get the Sims 5 if it ever has this sort of problem that is similar to that of the Sims 4 in the near future, I know exactly what to do :)

On console what I do is I’ll go to the controls screen, that usually works.
This happens to me as well, i have already seen numerous threads about this. I try to save my game frequently and if the lag occours, i exit the game and open it again. Do graphics settings trigger this kind of lag? In my game this lag is triggered by the notification wall and the animations of the user interface. Once it happened when my sim arrived home and the salary notification appeared, the other time it was caused by the opening of the career panel. Since then i keep my notification wall clear. It just seems that UI related things (switching into buy mode, opening tabs, animations when gaining a skill and notification related animations) really trigger this.
I usually just save and give the game time to catch up, which is essentially what this is doing.

Changing screens in bottom-right info-panel works for me
I thought i was the only oneee I have the same problem so I just open the menu, close it and it fixes. But I think it happens because of the graphics settings being too high or something.
In my case (laptop) I just need to press ESC twice owo
For console just click the L stick and open the controller button screen

Hahaha it makes no sense! I don't know why the calendar is a magic fix for the fps but yeah, if a game that came out in 2014 is the hardest to run on your PC, logic need not apply 🤣
I wish this still worked. I stg, it'll fix it for like 3 seconds and then the insane frame drops happen again. I tried removing my save and Tray folders, as well as restarting. nothing helps.

I have a PS4 with very long loading times (20 to 30 min). It has always been long and is glitchy. My library has been wiped at least 3 times, losing all my lots, sims, and games. I have spent over 800 dollars on packs etc and with each one, it gets more glitchy. All my others games on my PS4 work fine but with sims 4 I feel robbed.
You need ps5 to run this game better

My gallery wiped itself completely too once! & agree about the packs, the more content I've gotten, the less the game has worked :( I've stopped buying the packs now seeing as so many of them are still broken

Didn't work for me on ps5 but when I clear notification and save the game that works 👍
Have the same problem too on mine had to restart it and it fixed it but it came back later its just very weird even my pc is supposed to handle the game pretty smoothly sometimes but now its just worse it gets around 120fps and it just drops to 50 and 20 i have good specs on mine RTX 3090 32gigs of ram and I9 processor i hope EA will fix this problem soon

It works for me & a lot of others, try opening your calendar when you get the lag (especially when coming out of build/buy) & see if it helps! Good luck 🧚♂️

Dealing with this a lot lately. Sometimes I can't shake it off and it makes me not want to play anymore 🥲 or at least buy anymore expansion packs.
