The $10000 hvac you mean....we know and have the money ready. The quote was jaw dropping. Our mortgage is 15 percent of our after taxed income and we are saving $1000 a month for home maintenance. I highly suggest it as we are in year 20 and everything has been replaced at this point except the roof and now hvac is next. We want all new replacements by year 21 if possible to start fresh for our retirement years. God bless you and your savings plan~

Vinny can use the $50k to get certifications, attend a trade school, or get a higher degree. He has to change careers and make $90- $120k for his wife to stay home. He can teach bible study on the weekends. This call was for Ken Coleman.

If people truly followed your advice of a 15-year mortgage with a 25% debt ratio based on net income, it would completely crush the national real estate market. Median household income is ~$70k and median home prices are $400k+. Come on Ramsey Team…get real.

Jade gave excellent advice to Matt with checking his credit report immediately (one of the reasons to actually HAVE a credit report, BTW). Matt should also have thought to google the reviews on that company. I did so, and there is a litany of complaints against them and a warning not to answer to ANYTHING in that letter.

Nilly, this is a very complex decision with lots of ramifications. Whatever money you spend on a competent CPA will be money well spent - an error can cost you much more! I am glad George and Jade actually told you to ask a professional and did not answer this one way or another. They are finally learning not to give advice in areas in which they are not expert.

Cash, do NOT cash out your assets to pay your mother's mortgage. When you weaken your financial situation, you also limit your ability to help her. It sounds like she is not able to afford her house, and if that is true, then it is not your responsibility to pick up the slack. She may need a smaller place or to rent as if she is quite ill, she would not be able to take on all the responsibilities of home ownership which go beyond just making the mortgage payment. Every Dollar trainings are going on all the time - get her to listen to that and perhaps share her total financial situation with you so you can assist her with decisions.

Vinny, as Jade and George pointed out, the math doesn't work here. If you make $32,000 a year, how is it that you are only bringing home $1300 a month (which is $15,600 a year). You are not paying 50% on taxes. George should not tell people, "Maybe you can teach college." He seems unaware that there are additional academic degrees to get for even an adjunct position teaching college, even at the community college level. If Vinny likes teaching Bible to middle schoolers, he can teach Sunday School or work with the youth department at his church. No way can they live on $32,000 a year if his wife gives up her $60,000 income to be a SAHM if they have a mortgage that is $2,500 a month for a $300,000 house! RS personalities give advice, they don't work miracles. Right now the wife is carrying the financial load (and probably has health insurance and retirement with her job). They would even be better off for her to continue working and him be the stay-at-home Dad (with a work from home job.) Someone who is telling you "God will provide" is using a cop-out b/c they want or need you to keep teaching at a very low salary (and you don't even mention if you are getting retirement and health insurance with your salary, but my guess is you are not.) Read I Timothy 5:8.

@@DericAnslum Yes - that's what I said above - but he also said later he brings home $1,300 a month when Jade asked him that question. And then Jade asked what the mortgage was and he said $2,500 - did you see her head snap up when he said that? He seems to think his $50,000 is a windfall - it's not. As George said, $50,000 lump sum does not replace a $60,000 additional income. The verses Jade used are Luke 14:28, 29.

Luke, be careful about assuming responsibility for other people's decisions. If your organization is legal and following the law, people have the right to do what they choose within the limits of the law, even if they're making financial mistakes. I am sure you don't know everything about their lives, just what their financial situation permits you to offer them.

@@badlands9100 I never said he wasn't smart. Everyone knows he paid off their home and is a millionaire - but he also only has one small baby. Jade and her husband were mired in almost half a million dollars in student loan debt and also have gotten on a firm financial footing with older kids - much more difficult. I'm not saying everyone travels the same path. What I am saying is that when Jade is tuned in, she can empathize with the callers because she has been where they are. It's a MUCH more difficult task to get out of debt when you have older kids in the house and so much student loan debt!
