As someone who builds computers 16 gigs of ram is highly recommended it’s a minimum in 2022 in my honest opinion and you also have to see how fast the ram is being clocked at as well
As someone who also builds computers, 10+ years as an IT professional, IT Bachleors, etc (lol)...oh and uses multiple Windows and Macs on a daily basis....the 8gb is more than enough for the majority of people..especially just for music production. 16 will be better and add a few years of longevity...but the 8gb gets the job done. The 'unified memory' that Apple is using is not the same as the RAM you are used to. It almost feels and performs as double what you actually have due to the efficiency. The 8gb in the Air keeps up with loads that 16gb Windows laptops handle. I now have the 16gb M1 Pro and it performs on par with 32gb laptops from other brands.
4:00 Actually... you couldn't do more on those. The tests with the 8GB Air are killing the 32GB Windows machines. One video had a guy running 95 tracks through a DAW and only this machine could handle it. 95 freakin' tracks! Insane!

there is a really good January sale on the macbook air M1 2020 8gb ram - and I'm so tempted to go for it. I use Ableton live and want a computer ONLY used for that. But - it's 2022 now, and I'm afraid it'll just dissapoint me and I'll need to get a new Macbook pro with alot more gb rams in the near future anyway. But - would you say even the small M1 8gb from 2020 - would be worth it for Ableton for a couple of years? Cause then I might just go for it. the price is good.

Yes to everything, all good and working great. The only downside to me is Adobe Premiere exports take forever. However, if you edit in Final Cut, it is faster than most i7s and i9s for the edits and exporting
Hello, I would like to consult you. I bought a MacBook Air M1, used a zoom meeting for an hour and the battery dropped to 80%, will it have come faulty? Because I heard that the battery should last a long time, (between 15 and 18 hours) or will it be zoom that consumes a lot? greetings and thanks
Thanks great information. Question 🙋🏽♀️ do you have a dock or hub for more ports when you’re working on music production? If I want to hook up my audio sound card (usb) and maybe a bigger monitor and an external hard drive I’d be out of ports. Wondering what you’re using or how you’re producing with midi keyboards, your Apollo etc?
I've watched a couple of your videos, I really dig your content. I didn't see a link for the Macbook Pro, am I just overlooking it? I'm definitely going to cop one, so I'd appreciate it if I could buy it through your link.
Would you recommend it for someone who wanted to make acoustic songs? Probably not gonna be dealing with more than 12 tracks for the time being as well. My work process currently consisted of recording piano through midi, acoustic guitar, vocals, voiceovers, edit some 1080 and 4K videos taken from phone (mostly just videos of me singing and playing instruments). Would you think a base model M1 Macbook Air can handle it nicely?
@@BrandonBLysticLee glad to know that. My 11-year-old computer is crashing on and off when I use too much plugins. Looking for an upgrade and this thing seems ideal.
I have been a music recording artist for about four years now, I’ve been using a 2015 MacBook Pro. Is this gonna be a good upgrade to use Logic Pro, and GarageBand?
Thanks for the video. I have a question, do you think the 16 gb of ram would be enough for using sample plug ins? I write orchestral music most of the time and orchestral plugins are really ram hungry because, as you might know, they don’t synthesize the sound in real time, instead, they pull up whatever samples that fit the written melody . I watched some videos where it’s said that 32 gb is a sweet spot for working with plugins of that kind, but since you’re saying the m1 is more ram efficient, I might consider getting one instead of lenovo legion 5 pro. (I’m sort of thinking between the two) and I work on fl studio. I guess it’s already two questions. Anyway, I’d appreciate your comment on this or anyone who has something to say about this :) thanks
Both choices would do the same and I think 16gb RAM would suffice in your case. I have a Lenovo Legion 5i (no the Pro) and this thing runs out of juice after 2/3h .. it sucks !!!!!
Subscribed! Been mulling over this decision, I have a 2015 15in Pro to trade-in and this seems like the move! Especially now that NI is working, so stoked. The transition to dongles is gonna be strange tho, do you use a port extension thing for plugging in controllers/ charging/ interface?
Dope! The 15in 2015 is one of the most favored Macbook out there with people due to the ports and all lol...You'll definitely feel the upgrade and will also hate there are only 2 USB-C ports...But yes, I use a dongle that has 4 USB ports, USB-C, HDMI, SD Reader and a headphone jack (I originally bought it for my iPad Pro)...Appreciate the feedback and support
Hi friend. thanks for your videos. Do you recommend the macbook air m1 to record and mix albums? (audio production). My idea is to work on 25-track projects between wav files and virtual instruments and various plug-ins. (7 per track approximately) in cubase or maybe in logic. will the macbook air m1 be enough? If that's enough, would 8g of ram be okay? or would 16 be necessary?
Pro 8 gb vs air 16 GB(8core)? Which one should I go with? Just buy for logic. And will not record orchestral things. Just i will use vst's and some plug ins
Appreciate it man..I haven't used Cubase in particular, but i do use Ableton and FL Studio on it (both not yet native) They both run pretty well and like they would on any other Intel computer...however, the exporting takes a little bit longer..nothing too crazy, but a little longer than a native app does.
@@Aster-ul2gg it would be completely unrelated to this video as iPads run on a different system. But if that’s all that’s in your budget, there are production apps to get started..like BeatMaker 3 and the iPad Logic Pro
Dude is the 8gb ram MBA enough or i absolutely need 16gb ram for producing music using ableton? I ask cause these 8gb ram 512GB storage are dirt cheap now days in Montreal for 1200 bucks.

thanks! My next Mac will be the M1 Mini!
Good stuff!
I’d say video streaming in a meeting is pretty intense so that’s not bad
Love the vid, super helpful! Do you think thing the base 7-core model of the MacBook Air with 8GB RAM is going to be enough for GarageBand?
Most definitely bro
More than enough
Great video!!! Very helpful!!! Thanks!!!!!
No prob..glad to hear
Thanks great information. Question 🙋🏽♀️ do you have a dock or hub for more ports when you’re working on music production? If I want to hook up my audio sound card (usb) and maybe a bigger monitor and an external hard drive I’d be out of ports. Wondering what you’re using or how you’re producing with midi keyboards, your Apollo etc?
Yes, i use USB-C hubs
Sir how much swap was used at the time of 30 instances of Omnisphere
I've watched a couple of your videos, I really dig your content. I didn't see a link for the Macbook Pro, am I just overlooking it? I'm definitely going to cop one, so I'd appreciate it if I could buy it through your link.
Dope..really appreciate that bro..i need to clean those links up moving forward lol
M1 Macbook Air: amzn.to/3linQ7I
Getting into electronic music production and I use a lot of big synths like serum sylenth and alot of layering. 8gb still workk good for this?
On an M1 Mac, yes
So fl studio is good on the m1? I currently use an i5 asus laptop but that battery is dead
Yes it is..it was good before and now they've released the native version
Appreciate you !
Appreciate YOU
Would you recommend it for someone who wanted to make acoustic songs? Probably not gonna be dealing with more than 12 tracks for the time being as well. My work process currently consisted of recording piano through midi, acoustic guitar, vocals, voiceovers, edit some 1080 and 4K videos taken from phone (mostly just videos of me singing and playing instruments). Would you think a base model M1 Macbook Air can handle it nicely?
I'm pretty sure it'll deliver just enough power for that!
Perfect for that
@@BrandonBLysticLee glad to know that. My 11-year-old computer is crashing on and off when I use too much plugins. Looking for an upgrade and this thing seems ideal.
Great video sir !!!
I have been a music recording artist for about four years now, I’ve been using a 2015 MacBook Pro. Is this gonna be a good upgrade to use Logic Pro, and GarageBand?
Great perspective, thanks. I keep holding off, thinking I need 16gb for production. But... clearly, you're doin' fine with 8gb. So...
How does it handle multiple instances of Omnisphere?
Very well
Thanks for the video.
Excellent information. I have the MacBook Air M1 and the Apollo Twin X and it doesn't recognize me, how did you do it?
I just installed it with the latest UA driver
@@BrandonBLysticLee Thanks, I got it!
Yo gonna watch all these videos about the M1 Air... I’ve been thinking about copping either the Air or Pro but I’m really unsure.
Hard choice, but the new Air is very Pro compared to before lol...They both are dope
Hi friend. thanks for your videos.
I think the 8gb would be enough, but it would be pushing it..you may want to get 16 to be comfortable in projects of that size
Pro 8 gb vs air 16 GB(8core)? Which one should I go with?
Just buy for logic. And will not record orchestral things. Just i will use vst's and some plug ins
They both will run about the same...you'll get more benefit out of the additional RAM
@@BrandonBLysticLee I went with pro 8 gb 256 gb ram model :)
Your PC looks insane by the way! Have you used Cubase or any other 3rd party daws on the m1 air? If so does it overheat or anything?
Appreciate it man..I haven't used Cubase in particular, but i do use Ableton and FL Studio on it (both not yet native)
They both run pretty well and like they would on any other Intel computer...however, the exporting takes a little bit longer..nothing too crazy, but a little longer than a native app does.
Can I know how many tracks can be done at a time in the logic Pro with 8gb ram
Idk exactly lol
Hows the work flow on the mpc 2.0 software?
The same as any other computer..it's good to go now
Can i consider ipad 10th gen if m on budget for production
@@Aster-ul2gg it would be completely unrelated to this video as iPads run on a different system. But if that’s all that’s in your budget, there are production apps to get started..like BeatMaker 3 and the iPad Logic Pro
@@BrandonBLysticLee thanksssss.....
Thanks man
No problem
Do you know what apps or software I can use to record music at home?
Logic, Ableton, FL Studio, Pro Tools, Studio One, Reason, MPC...and more
Dude is the 8gb ram MBA enough or i absolutely need 16gb ram for producing music using ableton?
I ask cause these 8gb ram 512GB storage are dirt cheap now days in Montreal for 1200 bucks.
It'll get the job done...it's not the same as 8gb of RAM in other computers
@@BrandonBLysticLee thx so my original thought of getting one at a steal price for now and waiting Till people sell their New 2021 mbp 5/6 months down the line for another steal and for the price of a New one now at 4k i can then have 2 of them.
Lol
yo great vid ! you won a new subscriber ! just a little question, do you think 8gb of ram is enough for beginner in rap instrumental production ? like some say it would take 16gb for many track and plug in, but for a beginner like me, i don't think i'd use 20 omnisphere and stuff like that so don't know ... you tell me ;) ( sorry for my english im a frenchy ^^ )
It will be enough..it will also be enough if you weren’t a beginner lol
@@BrandonBLysticLee thx ! I think i Will go for the base pro, cause of the fan and touch bar (wich i like to try) and put my old 2014 MBA to retirement XD even it's still serve me well for internet browsing and stuff like that ^^ but no way i can launch logic on this XD
Have you had trouble connecting a midi keyboard with the laptop?
The Komplete Kontrol didn’t work last time i tried but i have to test again after the latest NI updates...My Akai MPK mini doesn’t have any issues
thanks so much bro, i've been researching for so long if i should get 8 or 16gb ram and ive chosen 8gb!
keep up the great content
No problem..appreciate you
did you regret????
How has it been.
Have you had any problems I am thinking of buying the same one ill be happy to here your opinion
Same question brother.. is 8gb enough right now… is it working great ??
Will an m-audio midi keyboard work with the M1 mac?
It should..worked with a few other plug and play ones i've tested so far
