I’ll say it every time, but this channel is an absolute goldmine of techniques and talent. You guys are the gold standard of grimdark minis. Well fucking done 🤘🏻
Thanks! We'll slowly do more and more. Hopefully covering every major faction. Phase 2 of Villainy Ink is getting closer and many new cool color schemes and possibilities will arise. Stick around for more!
Dude! I was working on building a drukhari army for a fun Halloween scenario I'm running in my local shop! Between this and the heresy marine tutorials it's like you're personally guiding my hobby lol.
Its crazy how difficult some of us make it seem to get a great effect from theze techniques when all it takes is a little restraint and the ? Bravery? To try something new!!. Im seriously novice at painting and finishing these figures but after sitting and really watching how just a subtle application of certain products built up over a few passes make so much amazing difference in what ends up the final result. I watched abbadon being done the other day and saw just his face transform like magic with a few srokes of oils in such small passes,it wasnt on here btw (sorry!) But it mesmerized me just as watching the "skin cloak" did here, i honestly havent even been and sat at my workspace since i watched it as i think i need to take a long hard look at my process and set my mind right before i carry on! Need to calm down on these videos, their killing my previous confidence! Lol! No, these are just treasure to us starters and i for one believe im going to improve no end from this subscription!. P.s. it was marco frissoni or something similar who did the abaddon i saw, also the cloak was another highlight there, with oils he did it,unreal!. Well done guys, till im blown away once more!
Thank you kindly! I find it’s often not until the final stages that a miniature really comes together for me, with this Archon I wasn’t completely sold on the colour scheme until the final few weathering stages, then it all made sense!
@@GrimdarkCompendium I’m still a beginner, and using well my wet pallet is pretty hard for now. Your style is so good and you are motivating me to improve
Looks great! It would be the cherry on the cake if you’d used some strands of used cotton swabs to create some old hair on the skull on his shoulder. But thats just an idea i did on my flesh eater courts. The mini in the vid really sells realism on the materials and surfaces - my deep respect for that!
First I thought it was an intro by a professional voice artist 😮 warching this in bed before sleep, it might give you nightmares. Instantly ordered some inks so that i don't get haunted 😅
Thank you! Big things are coming for the Night Lords stay tuned! I’m sure at some point every legion will get the GDC treatment, along with every faction!
Question what if we are talking about the old 1998 Archon out of metal, or the old metal necron flayed ones. How do we introduce texture there? Do we use superglue, liquid greenstuff or what do we do??
For metal miniatures you could use something along the lines of tamiya putty thinned with tamiya plastic cement, applied with an old brush and very gently stippled to give a similar effect.
could you have used decay of death along with a drop or two of spirits to thin the green oil paint for the bronze corrosion to get some of that chalky finish with the darker/more intense green, or would it not dry with the right finish?
@@TheMichaellathropto a degree it wouldn’t matter too much, but oils tend to dry with more of a sheen (and can take a lot longer to dry) than enamels. It would be a cool experiment though!
I do find it funny that GC made villainy inks partially because he was tired of AK changing the formula in streaking grime so often…. And now there’s been at least 3-4 times that the inks have been significantly altered lmao And don’t get me wrong they’re good changes but also like… maybe don’t make the stability of the formula a selling point when it’s a roulette what you’ll get on a month-by-month basis
It's a fairly new product that got introduced to a wide population of people, which equals more feedback. Changes in the first few batches were bound to happen, even good that they did :)
@Jigsaw765 batch 1 worked exactly as I intended it. Unfortunately, the control you had on the drying finish was not well received - with Goons Grime in particular. So I made the 3 weathering washes dry matte. None of the others have changed, and that is the only change that has been made to the paints. That change was purely based on community feedback. The formulation changes to AK were color based.
@@fokin_skavenI would agree it’s been good changes, and the inks are technically impressive- but these are expensive, I don’t want to be subject as a beta tester for a premium product yknow?
@@Jigsaw765as far as I’m aware every single person that had issues with the initial batch was sent a replacement personally, that’s customer service at its finest! They definitely have a learning curve but produce some fantastic results once the nuances of application are understood!

Just an idea, maybe make paint job for a grimdark Death Korp of Krieg veteran guardsmen's . I think that would look really cool. Great video though
