You've got a great voice 🔥🔥🔥 I've got an Aston Spirit now, think I'm gonna swap out for a C214. Sounds really detailed on high end frequencies thanks for the review
I have no regrets over choosing the C214 as my first voice-over mic. This was after watching many reviews. Acoustic instruments sound especially great too. I put it through a dbx286S into an Audient id14 mkii for my podcast. For a more refined sound, I record directly through my Audient interface into my DAW and apply a Waves processing chain after editing (F6 eq and Scheps Omni Channel). This is for doing audio books and voice-over.
This has always been my go-to microphone for my vocal chain!!! Thank you!! so much brotha! I am currently on pause with gear...I lost all my equipment to a house fire (thank god for insurance)...but this was my go-to microphone...the chain I use was AKG 214, Preamp Focusrite ISA ONE, through Apollo Twin Duo USB, I was just about to try it through unison, compressor CL1b MII.
Really? That's awesome. No problem bro. I'm sorry to hear about the fire. I'm glad you had insurance brother. When you get all your gear back. Let me know how the CL1b fits in your vocal chain and how you like it.
@@773Currency apollo twin x is good enough u don't really need the preamp i personally also use the isa one it comes with a very clean sound if u want something that warms up ur vocal buy a neve preamp instead of the isa one
You can Sang my G! That mic sounds great on your voice. Very Neutral. My go to mic is the Lauten Audio Atlantis. 3 different mics in one and it sounds amazing. Its smooth on the high end and extremely detailed. It punches way above its weight, some people prefer it over a U87 so its definitely a great deal at 1500.
Archie can you make a video showing how to hook up mics to preamps and compressors. Where to put cables and things like that to bypass built in preamps from the interface.
It’s me or is the mic, when I aim my vocal right to the top or the middle of the mic, it’s very bright so I have to record with my voice aiming the below the middle to avoid ssss
@@archiebeatz honestly I’ve enjoyed it and it’s been a excellent work horse especially as far as varying voice types. My only knock is how harsh it can be from 2k-4k, it gets nasty. I also wanted to ask, what would you recommend as a upgrade from the 214 under 1k? I’ve been eying the TLM 102. Hope to hear back from you, thanks!
My go to mic currently is the Aston Origin. I think it works great for female vocals. But I think the AKG c414 is my next big mic after the Shure KSM42..
You are right. That's an awesome setup as well. Yeah, the C414 and KSM42 are great as well. The Aston Origin is one of the best microphones under $1000 in my opinion. Thanks for commenting.
Honestly, the information is there in the high end. I'm doing a few mix experiments with it now and all the necessary frequencies are there. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Hey Archie, cool to see another video! Also it would be damn cool to see some Golden Age Premier mics reviews, like GA8000 and ELAM 251, also take a shoot to Telefunken TF51, I guess you'll be impressed, but also it would be cool to see a review ;)

I’m not a super fan of this mic but it does flatter you voice really well because it just catches what you are putting out with clarity. I have a bass vocal singing range and I’m wondering, would you recommend this mic for that kind of voice? If not, is there a mic you recommend with low end clarity and resolution? Thank you for making such awesome content your experience really shows when you discuss gear which I really appreciate!!!
The mic actually captures low end pretty well and adds warmth to the sound. I have a lower singing voice as well depending on the vocal part but if you're too close to the mic it can get a little boxy. I'd be 8-10 inches from the mic and it will even everything out. It's very sensitive so finding the positioning sweet spot for your voice will be key as well. This is just my experience but I hope it was helpful.
I just purchased one! You were the final video I watched in my decision. It was between this and the shure SM4

Honestly, I have that video in my plans to record this weekend. It's just been crazy over here, lol. Be on the lookout brother.

Thank you :)
Bro would you do this one or the c80? I really like this sound after hearing the comparison
Appreciate you Brother Archie!
Hey brother! Thank you so much.
I've got a small studio and am just starting out in voice over, using the Rode NT1 as recommended by another VO I like!
how do I connect the AKG C214 to a guitar amp. Thanks for the video.
its okay a little boxy sounding missing a little high end would have to play around with eq and see what its really made of

i've got lewitt 440pure going in to audient id14 mk2 running to lindell80 then LaLa from analog obsession
Awesome vocal chain. I've heard such great things about the Lewitt 440 pure microphone. Thanks for sharing.
@@archiebeatz thanks! 440 pure is a great alternative kinda similar to this c214 of yours. cheers! 🇵🇭

Great work bruv
WA 8000! & i think we all know why. Clone of the c800g for 1/10th of the price. Then future upgrades if you want.
AKG C214 or SONY C80 ?
which one would you choose for home recording rap vocals Sir ?
When you record or are mixing vocals are all your monitors running at the same time?
No, never, lol. I use the Focal Trio 6 as my main monitors and I A/B/Check mixes with the Adam A7V and Fluid Audio Image2.
Sing with the low cut? What do you think can be done?
Manley Ref C 🙏
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 That's a beast of a microphone 🙌🏾

I’m currently using the AT2035 you think this mic is a good upgrade?
Is this better than the c80?
Hi. Can you share your vocal chain that you used to test the mic it really sounds nice.
This or AT2020?
The AT2020 is a great starter microphone but this one is a huge step up.

Honestly i really dont like how it sounds 🤷🏻♂️ its sound very harsh and boxy at the same time its not even near the c414 xls or xl ii 😎
