After looking at the video, I guess I can call our house a green one. Our house has:
    1. 3 KW Solar panels with net metering, 80-85% of our electricity needs are catered
    2. Solar water heater of 300 litres
    3. We harvest rain water in the sump & use it in the 3-4 months of monsoon
    4. We do composting of all the kitchen waste (wet waste)
    5. We make our own floor cleaners / toilet - Bioenzymes
    6. We make our own shampoo
    7. We avoid plastic to the extent we can
    8. We have a garden which produces fruits like Guava, Mangoes, Chickoo, Pomegranate, Amla, Mosambi
However, Our terrace gardening has been a failed attempt even after multiple tries. We are yet to switch to an EV car.
I can offer help to people looking for points 4, 5 & 6.

    • @Ish392s
      @Ish392s 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Not much but you'll have to be rich enough to have a good larze size of land. Construction defers, this bulding has 3 or 3+ floors. If you construct duplex in 2000 sq feet area for 4 or 5 persons, that's more than enough. You can setup gym or other luxury utilites on terrace floor like terrace garden and swimming pool and have a small kitchen utility for bbq etc. For this the load bearing capacity has to be increased and it will not cost more than 6 to 8% of total construction cost.
If you install Solar Panels then it's costly and will cost about 1.3 lakh for 2 KW panels and it consumes a lot of free space like 130 to 150 square feet at least.

Green building is kind of art piece nowadays. Very expensive for small homeowners to implement. Process and components need to be simplified and be very affordable. Like the porous bricks, double glazed glass window... Or the composters and water recyclers need to be modular and cheap.
And it should be doable IMO. Example : the policy push and increases demand for led lights have pushed the costs to affordable levels which were once premium products. And it should be replicable in this case also.

@@aashkashah7874 Yes solutions exist but IMO for majority of us they are either not affordable or accessible or available or all of above! In such cases we tend to go for traditional setups and thus back to square one. Any way that is changing even if slowly and that is the good news.

Rich fellows are the ones who need these kind of systems. Middle class don't need sensors to switch the lights off. They have habit of not misusing the resources.

Middle class are the most duped section by builders. You are made to believe that only things like fancy false ceiling is gonna make your house good. Truth is no where close. It is in the living where the house becomes home.

exactly. Be rich --> then exploit the resources --> then pretend to be sensitive person by doing things in green way --> spend more resources than saved in showing off how great you are.

Where can I find an architect to build me a green, self sufficient house in West Bengal? A small house, dont want one which looks like a hut. Am looking towards cobb or mud bricks( stabalized or not) or even rammed earth. Terrace gardening, recycled water and solar panels.

I think the plastic garbage disposal is a big concern , I feel the products we use in our day to day life the empty containers should be recycled in a healthy way , like the company that manufactures the product say a body lotion, when the product is used we throw the empty containers in the garbage , so these containers should be reused by the specific company , this way it won't end up in landfills .
