Just an FYI, These are called J case fuses. There are two different styles. One is the regular tall case and the other is the low profile. I have a 2011 Crown Vic Police interceptor and these are the fuses in the fuse box under the hood.

Thank you. My fuse box is jammed up under the dash and not in the open like in your example. It's hard to see the fuses by eye. Was able to get my phone up in there and get pictures of the little windows.
The black boxes are relays. If your lucky, they will have a schematic diagram on them. Here is a video that explains relays: th-cam.com/video/WrBWbnuX4QY/w-d-xo.html
Thanks so much for doing this video. None of the others touched on this important point. I have been trying to find this answer for quite a while. Thumbs up.
Howdy, I was trying to pull out a 30 amp fuse for my power windows but it would not come out I did not try forcing it. Do they come out? And if so can I replace it with a 30 mini Thanks
I have an 80 amp fuse stuck, it won't come out for nothing , it's almost like it got melted in . Any advice on how to get it out ? And I pretty much destroyed the top of it , pulling on it .
you have 120 amp fuse.....it has external connections....the ones in the fuse panel dont have that....try removing the clear fuses and use a OHM meter.....thanks...
Alternator is probably limited to 80 amps. The point of all fuses is that they blow before wires catch fire. If you hooked up jumper cables backwards this 80 fuse would blow before the diode pack on the alternator does.
my fuse that you have is twice as large as mine. do you think it can be check the same way as yours? i tried using magnifying glass a week ago but i could not see anything under the glass.
@@tubejim101 yes i have a 2003 dodge durango and all 3 fobs that i have stopped working at the same time, changed all batteries and no luck. both my fuse box diagram does show any fuse for the remote receiver or car alarm, so im trying to check all the fuses one at a time but i have about 10 fuses like yours with glass on top but half the size of yours. i checked all the flat fuse and all are good.
Hi there. I got 0.300 mA on multimeter on my car ELANTRA HYUNDAI, when I want to check voltage drop. I use screw tester I know the wrong from (B3+ BATTERY CATRIGUE FUSE 50A). Know I don't know what I do and what it mean that fuse.
Look up a picture of your fuse, and see how the bottom is made. Might have a tab that needs to be pressed. Some, you just pull out. Depends on what your are working on.
That zoom into the fuse was mesmerising...

Thanks, exactly what I needed to know and clear, big images of good and bad square fuse examples. MUCH APPRECIATED!
this helped me, used my phone camera to zoom in to see if relay was blown. thanks video helped me
Your zoom lense is amazing. Thanks for this.

I usually check for resistance, but since those clear tops come off easy, so you could use the test light to check them as well.
I just don't know if we are supposed to take those tops off?
@@tubejim101 i could be wrong, but my guess is that the top is there to prevent corrosion from moisture
@@tubejim101 they really look like they're designed to be removed but overall I detest this design -
How to we test these when in the car while doing a parasitic drawn test?
@@pgreenx what are testing for? if you're testing the amperage at one of the battery terminals, you could pull the fuse while testing
The main fuse bolts in. Its the black one on the left.
Thank you sir. That's what I was looking for. Appreciate you taking the time to post this video.
This was very helpful, thank you!
Appreciate you. Thanks man.
Thanks but, what about those black boxed relay fuses. How do you test those.

Those are relays
@@tubejim101 hello, only my driver window work?

😩 My fuses are opaque plastic... because of course they are - being transparent like yours would be helpful
Thank you very much! This is exactly what I was looking for!
How do you check relays?
It depends on the type of relay. I like to activate the relay, then check to see if the device is getting power.
Howdy, I was trying to pull out a 30 amp fuse for my power windows but it would not come out I did not try forcing it. Do they come out? And if so can I replace it with a 30 mini
Thanks
They do. I used a big Bussman puller/tester from AutoZone
It's a female fuse
How do you get them off *without* a. Specialty tool?
Following- I have the same question. Does the 30A just pull straight out?
I ended up using pliers. And if you want to be extra careful cover the fuse with a cloth
Is this the windshield wiper fuse
No. Looking around on the internet, look like the wiper fuse is #4 in the passenger compartment fuse box.
I have an 80 amp fuse stuck, it won't come out for nothing , it's almost like it got melted in . Any advice on how to get it out ? And I pretty much destroyed the top of it , pulling on it .
It may have a bolt holding it in.
@@tubejim101 Thanks , I just figured that out , I had to detach the whole fuse box to even see it ... anyhow , thanks for your reply .
I've noticed most high amperage fuses like 80a, 100a of these type are bolted in as well
@@FixItYerself Thanks , that definately the problem and the bolt was hidden on the side , I had to take the whole box out to see it .
Are the metal bars inside supposed to look the same on the big ones?
Ihave a ignition fuse that the metal looks intact but thin compare to the other ones ihave
I believe so
Thanks brother

hello sir. Please my car exactly like this car can you tell me how to chek charging daigram. even dashboard lights do not come on.
What year, make, and model are you working on?
can these be replaced? What do you ask for
Yes. Best just to remove it, and bring it in with you, to the auto parts store.
What us the purpose of the 80 amp fuse
To keep current draw limited to 80 amps.
Alternator is probably limited to 80 amps. The point of all fuses is that they blow before wires catch fire. If you hooked up jumper cables backwards this 80 fuse would blow before the diode pack on the alternator does.
good lesson

I am not familiar with the screw tester, so I can't help you there. Your car manual should tell you what the fuse is for.

Thank you
How do you replace these ???
If your lucky, you can just pull it out. Some have a bolt holding them in. In which case, you would have to take the bolt out.
How do you pull that fuse out
Depends on the car manufacture. Best to read through the comments. Let us know how you get yours out, to help others.
THANKKKKK UUUUUU!!!!!!
What if the metal is corroded and green or black? Bad/replace?
If it is not broke, then don't fix it. Unless it keeps you up at night. Then definitely replace it.
@@tubejim101 thanks for your help, your video was very helpful and easy to understand, right to the point. THANKS SO MUCH!
Thanks
no its not sealed from moisture it's just a plastic cap with no seals
Thanks, so these aren't relays then ?
Fuses
completly useless to me sadly i need to no how to remove one not tell if it is bad.
The ones I have seen ether just pull out, or have a screw in the base that holds it in. The ones with screws, can be tricky.
How do you get a job fuse out? Like the j20?

How do I remove a 2016 Nissan Versa SV triple 40 fuse? Doesn't look bolted in but it won't come out to replace.
I would get the replacement fuse, and look at the base, to see how it installs.
@tubejim101 Thanks! It's a triple wide 40 plug in. It won't unplug! 😆 maybe some plyers will do the trick.
