@@davidfortson Allow me to explain. Football players literally score touchdowns, while baseball players literally hit home runs. As shown in this video, Mr. Fitzgerald hit a home run metaphorically. My comment juxtaposed a football player with a baseball metaphor. It is a compliment to say he hit a home run. Get it? I am not deleting my praise for Mr. Fitzgerald just because you did not recognize this figure of speech.

Agreed! His standing up for Obama during that election, and not stooping to take political advantage of all the bigoted rumor-mongering, was one of the high points of his career. McCain knew that, at his age, it was his last chance to be president, and he still refused to encourage the racist fear that would hurt his opponent.
And McCain wanted to be known, not as a man who never made mistakes, but as a man who, when he recognized a mistake, *learned*, turned from it whole heartedly, and tried to make amends.

This is proof we ALL can live in our beautiful country and be proud and celebrate our country is the melting pot of the world. A staples rainbow of the earth. We all need to start forgiving and very more loving to one another. We all know Trump has made who we all are and what our ancestors and we all work so hard to make America the great nation it is. Who ever may win in 2020, we need a real leader, because we are a strong bonded country and we will not allow anyone in OUR office who spits in the face of one of our Nations Treasures, Sentor McCain. We only vote for people with same love that we have for our country on an equal level, even if we vote differently. We have to trust one another. God Bless America

A deliberate choice by McCain when planning the event; an example of and a paean to bipartisanship, a rebuke to the current dire state of affairs in government and the assaults on the very foundations of mcCain's beloved republic from Trump and the ragged remnants of the party he's hijacked. The significance of a eulogy from *an African American NFL player* in particular cannot be missed. @Shane Cleve if he were to ever run for political office I’d hope that he’d run first and foremost as a human being and as an American. That’s what John McCain stood for; not partisanship in an ever devolving 2 party system. LF reminds me a lot of John McCain with his joking and light hearted attitude with both teammates and opponents, and the longevity of their respective careers. When it comes down to it, they’re both obviously tough as nails.
I’m a Raiders fan but I’ve always liked Mr. Fitzgerald as he’s just a good dude that you root for. One can tell that he is comfortable with himself and that self worth stimulates free thought. I may be wrong but I believe LF’s father was a journalist. Whether sports or otherwise, journalism used to be synonymous with integrity. It’s simply not now on either side, but maybe that wordsmith family background with a true open mind and little rhetoric is what we need.

By his own admission he made some pragmatic political decisions rather than stick to his principles - most notable being his embracing of Palin as a running mate. He did ultimately admit these faults and accept they were moral lapses, but being sorry after the event can only get you so far. He was an uber-Hawk sure, but that was clearly because of a genuine commitment to a certain ideology and belief in America, not just through hatred or greed. In my eyes his most egregious act of hypocrisy was when he ditched a lifetime commitment to the conservative principle of a balanced budget and deficit reduction, he voted to out the US millions of dollars into record debt and an irrecoverable deficit in exchange for a promise of a few more billions to the budget of his beloved military.
Nonetheless, he kept his commitment to the principle of bipartisanship to the end, and that is a crucial component of a pluralist democracy, without which we have... well, what we see now. McCain was a regular in bilateral discussion under the Obama administration - will we ever see such co-operation again in Government?

John McCain opposed giving MLK a national holiday and supported rescinding an Arizona state holiday dedicated to MLK. He supported the flying of the Confederate flag so as to pander to racists and in the 80s he supported African apartheid. Do your goddamn research before you claim to know about a man.

    Great Speech ❣️
All of these speeches are so heartfelt.
I can only imagine the great influence and friendship Senator McCain had with younger generations.
John McCain was pure gold when it came to duty, truth, honor, respect, and family.
Thank you Mr. Fitzgerald for sharing the friendship you so honored with the one and only John McCain.

What an awesome speech. McCain was truly a great man. What a tremendous difference in attitude towards people, always reaching across the lines and connecting with people in politics, sport and the wider community. Trump on the other hand seeks only to divide and destroy

a nice contrasting eulogy from Larry Fitzgerald. He did a very good job of putting his unlikely friendship with John McCain in perspective. He made you understand how McCain could reach out to a vast number of people from all walks of life. Whether you are a highly decorated athlete like Fitzgerald or just a common man McCain has touched your life in some way. Most federal politicians don't have that ability....McCain, as Fitzgerald depicted, did. Thank you Fitz!
