If you think it will take 3-5 years then yea I would go ahead and put yourself on the list and check in with your AD about every 1 to 2 months. Just keep in mind that when you get the call they may require an immediate deposit to hold the watch. But it just depends on the AD. I would just ask them what their requirements are for holding the watch once you get the call.
I went in my AD with my work boots covered in concrete dust from cutting stones all day and sweat... he was glad to sell me the chocolate dial yacht-master. I wasnt even touching the watch because my hands were all dirty.. he was happy to put it on for me when trying to resize the bracelets. So that whole dress code dress nice thing is bullshit. Money talks they don't give a fuck if you're dressed like a beggar.
Hi Reno, Appreciate the feedback! The chocolate dial yacht master is not considered to be a specialty watch that you have to go on a long waiting list for. In this fact I do agree with you, anyone can walk in off the street and buy one on the spot because that kind of watch is typically always in the case. What I was referring to in the video are the really hard to get pieces like the stainless steel Submariner, GMT, Deepsea, Seadweller, and Daytona. If you want to buy one of those watches, you have to go on a long waiting list. In my experience, If you want to get around that long waiting list and speed up the process. You have to build a relationship with your dealer. Watches like the GMT BLNR, Pepsi, and Daytona are selling for nearly double on the open market from what they cost at the AD. So the AD has to trust that you will not flip the watch once they sell it to you.
@@luxandtime I agree with you on wait list models, while true I have a relationship with my ad so they'll recognize me dirty or dressed up. Not to bash your video or anything. The only thing I believe that plays a role getting wait list rolexes "faster" per se or any watch brand that they can get, is to just have a relationship with your ad.
Great question Lima Juliett. The watches I talked about in this video are from my own personal collection, and I do wear them. I have some vlog videos coming up soon with these watches so keep an eye out for them.
I did it like this: put myself on the list by a medium sized AD (sub date). 1 month later decided to buy a tudor black bay 41 from the same AD with discount. Directly sold my tudor after buying it for just 300 swiss francs less than i bought it. (Maybe was a bit lucky about that) and 2 months later i received a call from the AD. They usually just wanna make sure you are not a flipper.. and a good paying "easy" customer.
Thanks for the comment. Can’t believe you couldn’t get your name on the list for one the other models. So what happened when you asked asked to buy one of the SS specialty models? Did you they tell you the list was too long or you didn’t have enough purchase history?

Wow I can’t believe they won’t even put you on the list? That is insane! It must be a new policy your AD has implemented. These are the kind of tactics I expect when buying brands like FP Journe. Definitely not frickin Rolex. It's ridiculous that you have to do these things.
Unfortunately wearing nice clothes and being polite will not get you a Daytona, Hulk or BLNR. You have to purchase alot of other watches/jewelry to be considered. You are bringing false hope by saying otherwise.
Not true. Lux and Time is speaking the gospel. I snagged both a new BLNR in Oct 2017 and a Hulk about 9 months later in 2018 from an AD in the Bay Area and I had no buying history. I simply made a point of getting to know the shop owner(s) over a couple months and stopped in every week or two to talk watches and reiterate my interest. When he sold me my first piece (BLNR), he told me he chose to sell to me b/c I was local (they prefer to sell hard to get pieces to local clients who will build a life long relationship) and b/c he knew I was just a genuine watch geek who was excited to buy his first Rolex. It made him feel good knowing I was buying it to actually wear it and enjoy it vs flipping it for a quick profit. And after I bought the Batman, I continued to pop in every month or so while wearing it to prove that I hadn't flipped it. He literally told me he was happy that "I was the one who got the Batman." That persistence and relationship building allowed me to move up the list to get a Hulk about 9 months later.

I would love to try out a few models to be sure of what I want but I went into a very large Rolex AD near London to try a Submariner, and they had nothing! Not one model old or new. Then she told me, with a smile, that it would be at least twelve months to get one. Next week I am going into an AD here in France where I live. I have established contact with the guy and he's expecting me. He thinks I want a Sub non date but in reality I want a 214270 Explorer. I expect to have to wait which is fine as I am in no rush. Just my luck he'll have one in stock or will call after only a few weeks.
Maybe let your AD know your also interested in the Explorer? That way they know to call you if one comes in. The Explorer is not as popular as the sub and will probably be easier to acquire. Just my two cents.
@@luxandtime Defiantly my first time ever in an AD no history or anything.. To sum it up, build quality, genuine relationships with people. ... not so that you can get what you want, but to show that you care mutually for each other at the human level. It is super simply and you feel better being kind to others. Definitely good advice in this video.
Nowadays yes, buying most stainless steel or specialty sport models through your AD will have better cost savings, than if you buy through a online or gray dealer.
I agree with you about dressing nice. But, some salespersons know if you will buy even though you're not dressed well. My friend does not present him well, does not look wealthy, wears an old pair of jeans, sneakers, and yet the salesperson knew he was serious. Salesperson texted him 6 months later when the exact Rolex watch arrived that he wanted and my friend bought it. Friend never bought before from the salesperson and he only spent 10 minutes with her the first time they met, and he only met her once (2nd time when he purchased the watch). The lesson here is that find a salesperson who's good and who believes in you. likes you and who is motivated to sell. I believe she ordered the watch my friend wanted. It was not cheap ... it was 5x the cost of other Rolexes. So, I'd say the salesperson really knew/believed he was serious.
What is going on ? I remember not that long ago , money that was all you needed. You went to AD and you walked out with rolex of your choice. Artificial manipulation of the market by reducing supply that's all it is.
In most cases these tips won't get you anywhere. Most dealers have closed their list so you can't even get on it. The only way to get your hands on SS Sports models is to have a long history of being a big spender. And by big I men BIG. Buying a platinum Daytona won't qualify as big spending. Some dealers will even specify what it takes to qualify - two full gold models will allow you to buy a Sub etc.
last time I checked with a local deal, they told me to purchase a solid gold of any model and they will let go a steel daytona right away. Unless the bar has been raised again recently lol.
Good advice, maybe the best advice that I've seen on TH-cam. A lot of truth in this, based on my personal experience in how I have gotten desirable Rolex and Tudor models from my AD without begging or buying crap I don't want.
“You’ve got to convince them to sell you the watch” For real? With that attitude, no way would I give them my money. Basically you’re saying you have to grovel for days to buy a watch. Forget it.
@@springday5679 hello! Nothing yet. The AD I was working on have a bit of an attitude, I bought a Milgaus & an OP 39 (blue dial / green markers) from them, they laughed when I asked to be considered for a Daytona. I sold the Milgaus, kept the OP (really like it). I’m starting again, trying for a sea dweller 43. Thanks for checking in! Cheers
Even when you dressed up nicely and being polite some ADs wouldn’t give a flying dung about you because they already had potential big clients picking up those sports pieces so anyone else asking is straight away categorised as flippers. It’s all about being lucky and meeting those downright lonely ADs left in the wild in which you can apply those relationships building skills.
They will hold Daytonas or at least two of them I have talked to said so. Both told me that they hold them for customers that spend big bucks. The one in Vegas told me they hold them for customers that are willing to spend about $300,000 because they only get a few a year.
Hi Quan, thanks for the comment! I wouldn’t call it begging. More like I bugged my sales person until they gave in and agreed to sell them to me. But keep in mind that I’m also a motivated collector. The video was meant to help both fist time Rolex buyers and collectors who are stuck on a waiting list. I understand what you’re saying about 50% markup at the AD. The only problem is there is nearly a 100+% markup at a lot of these grey dealers because of the Rolex shortage. And I was not willing to pay those types of premiums. Plus there is markup in everything we buy. What I love about Rolex is if you acquire the right model, you typically get to enjoy one of the best looking, best made watches in the industry that is ken to having a bank account on your wrist. What I mean is they tend to go up in value over time.
If you don't have the plug, you're not getting the good stuff (hulks, pepsi, daytona, nautilus, RO). Plain and simple. If you think Rolex is bad, look at other brands like RM! (no hate btw, you got a new subscriber!)
The only way around the waiting list is to buy several watches that you don’t really want to develop a “relationship” with the AD. It is the same as the way that Hermes does with the Birkin and Kelly. It’s a very effective marketing scam.
If people stopped buying their way to the top of the waiting lists the AD's would put more pressure on Rolex to supply more watches or stop holding them. In turn the grey market/flippers would be out of business as there would be less demand and no inflated prices. Just saying.
All good tips. However saying that they have stock in the safe is utter nonsense. AD’s are dying for stick to turn cash. They are not hoarding stock. They need cash flow and will put it out in the case immediately so it will sell before the end of the day
This sounds like what's called a "freeness" attitude in my country, ie people indicating interest in something, but not putting their money where their mouth is. Where I'm from, businesses only take you seriously when you pay down on the item. These downpayments are usually totally refundable if you don't want the item anymore when it arrives, so there's no real risk to the buyer. But having your cash in their hand means the business considers you to be a customer, and not a faceless name on a list. I'd hazard a guess that people who pay down, consistently receive their watches in short order.
Nobody has ever gave a S--T what watch I have on my wrist, so Rolex would have to come to my door and charge less for me to buy one. My ego needs zero trinkets to survive! (btw, I have big feet) lol
So basically they want the customer to kiss their ass to get the retail price of their watches??!! They need the customer for their business yet they expect the customer to kiss their ass or do a little beg for getting the retail price of their watches? Damn..
Went on a list for a no date sub without ever purchasing from the AD... got a call the watch was available around 2 months later. I ultimately bought a cheaper no date on the grey market.
Wait 3 months for a watch and jump through hoops... or, buy the watch you want preowned and pay more. I paid more and had the watch I wanted in 3 days. Unworn. Box. Papers. Painless. A few thousand more to save myself 3 months or more of waiting? Easiest decision ever.

Exactly right!! These people ACT righteous, but they not.
My wife loves jewelry and buys quite a bit. She got me a Panda Daytona Ceramic within 10 days for MRSP. It's all about relationships.
Enjoy the Panda, a great watch!
Being a return customer always helps. However, return customers of luxury items can usually get discounts. I wouldn't buy any luxury item at full msrp if I was frequently customer period.

@@MPerry-ox9qb Yeah, I never understood the Daytona thing. The name alone puts me off. I don't want a watch named after Florida.

If possible wear an expensive watch too, experienced seller will definitely pay attention to your wrist.

Great straight forward advice and my exact experience in getting a James Cameron, a Hulk and a GMT Black and Tan within a year. Waiting on the call for my Pepsi and Daytona and I'm told with a wink that "I'm in a good spot" because of my previous purchases, polite in person visits and because I clearly wear the watches.
That’s awesome Christopher! Thanks for sharing your experience. Love the Hulk!
@@luxandtime Well, today was a good day. Got the call for my Pepsi. The method works. Daytona will be next :)
CRH - Congrats, that’s quite a collection! Happy to hear these tips helped and hope you enjoy the Pepsi!
Great video - many thanks. All common sense stuff and I'll give it a try. I'm after a SS Ceramic Daytona and a SS Date Submariner. Do you think that purchasing a non Rolex watch at the same time (a new Omega Moon watch maybe) would help?
should i go to a store and ask them to put me on the list for the Submariner date. i have the half amount for the retail. or wait to i have all the money before asking to put me on the list? they say there is 3-5 years on the list :((
If you think it will take 3-5 years then yea I would go ahead and put yourself on the list and check in with your AD about every 1 to 2 months.
Hi Reno,
Appreciate the feedback!
Reno2324 I see your point and I didn’t feel as if you were bashing my video. Thanks again for commenting!
So how much in total did you spend on all these watches? Anyone know?
Little less than 9k per watch
Do you keep and wear your watches or do you flip them online?
Great question Lima Juliett. The watches I talked about in this video are from my own personal collection, and I do wear them. I have some vlog videos coming up soon with these watches so keep an eye out for them.
So basically have your money at the ready, know what you want, be persistent, and don't be a dick. Got it. Wish me luck.
Good story Deni, thanks for sharing!
Bruv like im going to a job offer and how to get promoted
Actually works I did the same but only got the DJ41 blue dial white gold bezel jubilee. Couldn't get my name on any of the SS models tho
Thanks for the comment. Can’t believe you couldn’t get your name on the list for one the other models. So what happened when you asked asked to buy one of the SS specialty models? Did you they tell you the list was too long or you didn’t have enough purchase history?
@@luxandtime I live in Sydney CBD so theres like 4 AD's here and I havn't had any purchase history from them. When i asked them all about SS models they say the list is full besides for that DJ41 blue so I just put my name down for that and got it in 3 months. I came back to the same AD I bought the DJ from and I still cant get my name down for a SS sports lol
Wow I can’t believe they won’t even put you on the list? That is insane! It must be a new policy your AD has implemented. I’m betting the AD has had so many people sign up that they will now only put you on the list if your VIP status. Which in my opinion is total BS. They’re catering to the uber wealthy which is not fair to everyone else.

I got my 41mm date submariner in two days...and a second no date 41mm sub in two weeks after.
These are the kind of tactics I expect when buying brands like FP Journe. Definitely not frickin Rolex. It's ridiculous that you have to do these things.
When you get put on a wait list, do you pay up front, deposit, or nothing until you get the Rolex in stock
It depends on the AD. Mine does not require a deposit until you get the call that your watch is available to purchase and pick up.
Creating relationships and communicating with ADs are key. You said things that are so true.
Brett Hoffman Agreed
You mentioned that you were in sales yourself. What do you sell, if you don’t mind me asking?
I’m in software sales.

Yes, good old Gandelmans.

3 dress nice when you get in
4 be persistent
5 let them know you are serious / and you are ready to pay
6 Be polite & friendly
7 Spend a bit money as you can
8 Ask lots of questions / about how they do business
9 do your research about which watches you like
10 go to many store as possible
11 be persistent
I was offered dirnks got my 2021 hard book, tried a sub and yachmaster was told hopefully by christmas we had laughs, i dressed casual smart, we had nice convos.. I was myself not nervy or awkward.. I just said I like this model because its me... simple.. fingers crossed for me! RE the Sub date black bezel 2nd choice and Yacht 40 Rhodium 1st choice!
To sum it up, build quality, genuine relationships with people. ... not so that you can get what you want, but to show that you care mutually for each other at the human level. It is super simply and you feel better being kind to others. Definitely good advice in this video.
Pass the sick bucket....It's a fucking watch, you're not marrying the sales rep whose selling you the watch.
@@jbennison5672 good luck on the secondary market.
Hey man, I just did exactly the same as you said before watching your video, and it actually works 100%, I got my first sea-dweller 5 days ago.
Congrats!!
I think the explorer is either too big for you or poorly fitted.
When you did your wrist watch check, you could see nearly half the watch back!
You might be right Dylan. However I probably had the easy extension pulled out. Which adds an extra 5mm in length for comfort.
So AD is the best way to buy Rolex? That’s actually the best cost saving way?
These are probably high end Replicas. It would be a little tacky to buy a bunch of Rolexes months apart as a collector.
We’ll call me tacky then. I hate to break it to you but each watch is very real. Appreciate you taking the time to comment me on the video!
What is going on ? I remember not that long ago , money that was all you needed. You went to AD and you walked out with rolex of your choice.
Artificial manipulation of the market by reducing supply that's all it is.
I agree with you 100% Janusz! Appreciate the feedback!
Thanks for the comment!
Good advice, maybe the best advice that I've seen on TH-cam. A lot of truth in this, based on my personal experience in how I have gotten desirable Rolex and Tudor models from my AD without begging or buying crap I don't want.
It is a sad world when a thief can get a Rolex faster than all the people on waiting lists.
Agreed!
Sound advice. One could also consider other brands.
U buy 2 watches the dealer can’t sell ! Than after u spent 15k$ on watches u not really crazy about, than they might sell you a submariner !

“You’ve got to convince them to sell you the watch”

With that attitude, no way would I give them my money.

Solid tips! I’m on a list but need to up my game, starting tomorrow,, cheers.
did you get anything yet?
@@springday5679 hello! Nothing yet.
Ad's don't leave watches sitting in the safe. They need to move stock asap, as it effects their future allocation.
They will hold Daytonas or at least two of them I have talked to said so. Both told me that they hold them for customers that spend big bucks. The one in Vegas told me they hold them for customers that are willing to spend about $300,000 because they only get a few a year.

@therealnightwriter Dont be that guy
Another channel jumping in on the Rolex bandwagon. I wish you luck. There's lots of competition ;-)
You have to beg to buy it? WTF? Their profit margin is a minimum 50% for the AD...
Awesome appreciate the sub!, good message by the way!
Many thanks for the excellent tips! I will be applying them as you suggest
You’re very welcome Ernie! I hope these tips are helpful.
The only way around the waiting list is to buy several watches that you don’t really want to develop a “relationship” with the AD. It is the same as the way that Hermes does with the Birkin and Kelly. It’s a very effective marketing scam.
I’ve bought a tag heuer Monaco gulf online official site and got change to buy a car
What about the Daytona panda? Would you have been able to get that as well?
If people stopped buying their way to the top of the waiting lists the AD's would put more pressure on Rolex to supply more watches or stop holding them. In turn the grey market/flippers would be out of business as there would be less demand and no inflated prices.
Just saying.
Thanks for the feedback Jason!
All good tips. However saying that they have stock in the safe is utter nonsense. AD’s are dying for stick to turn cash. They are not hoarding stock. They need cash flow and will put it out in the case immediately so it will sell before the end of the day
Did he ever say they are hording stock? It is not utter nonsense, several ADs have stock ready for their preferred clientele.
You must be new here
That Sea Dweller is beautiful
This sounds like what's called a "freeness" attitude in my country, ie people indicating interest in something, but not putting their money where their mouth is. Where I'm from, businesses only take you seriously when you pay down on the item. These downpayments are usually totally refundable if you don't want the item anymore when it arrives, so there's no real risk to the buyer.
But having your cash in their hand means the business considers you to be a customer, and not a faceless name on a list. I'd hazard a guess that people who pay down, consistently receive their watches in short order.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
There are 3 steel sport Rolex which are relatively easier to get , Explorer 2, explorer 1 and Milguss , seen them pop in ADs once in a awhile
