Amazing how far they've come since then. I remember in 6th grade, there was a kid whose parents bought a brand new one of these - needless to say, there were A LOT of jealous eyes when he got dropped off at school!
Just bought a 1997 Chevy suburban 1500 with a VERY rare 6.5 liter turbo diesel ( very rare for 1500 models. could only be obtained by custom ordering the option at a dealer). 130,000 original miles, LT model with tan leather seats that are in very nice shape, very little rust, all functioning glow plugs, 8 lug rims (to hold the weight of the diesel engine even though it is a 1/2 ton truck), Cherry Ice Metallic color (looks like maroon/burgundy), 42 gallon fuel tank, and clean title. Best truck we have probably ever owned
Man this thing would be so awesome for road trips. A lot of people in other countries don't really realize the distance in America. I live in Oregon and if I just wanna drive down to Southern California it's like a 10 hour drive lol. Taking 6 people down to so cal in this thing would be a breeze and it would be comfortable all the way. On the highway it might get around 20mpg, as two years ago I took a 94' GMC 2500 (350V8 TH700R4) down and it got 18mpg average.
i love the interior, especially the seats! And its way cooler looking than an escalade from that year. I just wish they had a custom door chime that wasn't annoying like the stock one!
Ahh Choo Choo Customs. Their building is now an RV storage facility in Chattanooga, TN off Lee Highway. They had some sweet customized vans, trucks, El Caminos, and SUV's like this Suburban!
The fog lamps are integrated right below the bumper where the chin spoiler was added to this vehicle. They swapped out the normal design for the chin spoiler, but when they did that, it took off the fog lights, but they didn't remove the switch.
Ahh the memories of my family going camping in one of these, we would fold down the middle row of seats and sit in the back seat and when we would go on a ferry, no one saw us due to the tinted windows. That way we didn't need to pay for us kids.
2017 zl1 camaro/2017 camaro fan the newer cars do not compare with this truck. Steel bumpers, cast iron V8, and frame under it. It's stupid of you to even consider being it up
Growing up I always wanted a suburban of this era, Chevy or gmc didn’t matter. I still do, currently have my eye on a clean 1998 gmc suburban SLE 4x4. It’s so hard to not make a dumb choice and go buy it lol
Man, I use to have a 97 Chevy Suburban LS 1500 after 14 years of abuse and low Maintenance it came too a screaming end 2 years ago. The engine seized up and now it's just eye candy in my driveway. I gotta say I felt more safer in that 97 Suburban then I did in my driving instructor's 2009 toyota corolla(Piece Of Shit). The Suburban is the second best vehicle I've ever driven. I
Great video. Very nice with the exception of the added switches could have been color matched on the seats. Also when they changed the bumper could have remounted and cut out for the now missing fog lights.
This is the GMC Suburban Choo Choo Customs. A car with a 5.7l V8 engine and Automatic Transmission For a smoother drive. It has barn doors at the back.
Theres a 4WD '99 Suburban for sale nearby at a shop for $2500.....same mileage too, 140k. Can't find a flaw on the thing either. GMC built those things like battle tanks. Great for towing just about anything too.
PatrickD Treu yeah my stepdad bought his 2002 Silverado new and he just sold it and it had about 320,000 miles on it with almost no problems in the years he owned jt
What's the hissing noise in the exhaust at 3:40? not the noise u hear in the area at 5:25 I be hearing that in alot of gm and I want it if its not a bad noise
@ no fog lights....A lot of these up-fitters installed a custom splitter underneath the bumper. These were prone to cracking and damage because a lot of them were fiberglass. My guess is there were fog lights in a splitter, but because of damage or wear, the part was replaced with a normal Suburban bumper.
NICE TRUCK!!!!!! i would love that truck! screw the new ones... that body style rocks.... if I won the lottery I would customize that truck further and it would not be as attractive to thieves as well!
@saabkyle04 My opinion is the truck might have been in an accident at some point, the air bag is grey but the wheel is tan. New bumper, or possibly even whole front end. Good review in general, enjoy watching them.
WOW, 1999, I remember everyone driving big American SUVs and VANS cause the gas was only like 99 cents a gallon. I use to drive an '89 toyota camry and that thing will get full with $10, a lot of road trips back then.
Nice suburban. Wish mine was custom like this it's really nice I have a 99 Tahoe with the 4x4 with auto transmission mines quite beat up 5.7 v8 I love it. It's got the lt trim base model does have leather interior though comfy ride spacious I'd this one if it was a Tahoe the suburban is to large.
People sure do love to dog on this older truck. I love it, sure it costs a fortune to fill it up, but in 1999 people werent so concerned with gas prices. Also the wood trim looks so crappy because it has so many hours of travel in it. It could look a lot worse
It always sucks when I come to these videos and half the comments are Europeans criticizing gas mileage and horsepower ratings. Enjoy the vehicle for what it is. It's American. The SUV made in 1999. Just because in your country you drive small vehicles doesn't mean everyone else needs to. Chill. Nice note: Suburbans are just MASSIVE, but pretty cool. And, nice video as always, Kyle! : )
@hushi4 I agree that the price for the mileage is a bit high but these trucks are solid as a rock. Take care of them with regular maintenance and they will last you 300k+ easy.
Amazing how far they've come since then. I remember in 6th grade, there was a kid whose parents bought a brand new one of these - needless to say, there were A LOT of jealous eyes when he got dropped off at school!

how much miles do you get with those 42 gallons?
Good luck with that 6.5 turd!

I drive a 99 GMC suburban, LOVE IT! great family car for those families counting more than 4
+Nicole Torres It is not a car, a car for example is a Toyota Avalon, but this Suburban is a truck!
That looks so luxurious. I'd rather have this over a Mercedes... ANY DAY!!!
I've always liked this car. One time when I came to the US I even rode in one, great experience.
+snelmau5 It is not a car, a car for example is a Toyota Avalon, but this Suburban is a truck!

Truck-Based SUV tho...
+xchaindude11x not a truck, it's a van
It's a coupe
I know someone that had one of these back then. It was really nice for its day. I rather have this than a conversion van as a camping vehicle.
That is sharp as hell...very clean to..I like that body style...thanks for posting this
Seeing this truck takes me back when my dad a 99 chevy suburban back in august 98. These trucks costed $37,000 back then
I love the interior on this SUV.
Awsome old Suburban! This is my favorite body of the Suburban.

Best car reviewer on TH-cam! Keep it up :)
1:30 i love the suburban chime!
GM trucks had the best seats in those times🤘😁🤘
ikr they still do
Ahh Choo Choo Customs. Their building is now an RV storage facility in Chattanooga, TN off Lee Highway. They had some sweet customized vans, trucks, El Caminos, and SUV's like this Suburban!
I'm kinda confused, because there is a fog lamp switch, but no fog lamps, did anyone else notice this?
+longrange341 Prolly just added by the customs company in case of someone adding fog lamps.
Hmm..I have fog lamps in my vehicle but no switch...maybe I can work out a deal with this guy lol.
The fog lamps are integrated right below the bumper where the chin spoiler was added to this vehicle. They swapped out the normal design for the chin spoiler, but when they did that, it took off the fog lights, but they didn't remove the switch.
longrange341 mine doesnt have that could it be the year
Yeah I noticed dat too!🤔
I love those old boxy GM trucks!
That's an amazing car and clean 👌
These suburbans are roomier than the new ones but also 1,000 pounds less weight . I have a 1999 slt and it runs so smooth .
Ahhh 99 was a good year good year
Ahh the memories of my family going camping in one of these, we would fold down the middle row of seats and sit in the back seat and when we would go on a ferry, no one saw us due to the tinted windows. That way we didn't need to pay for us kids.
Still nicer and way more attractive and reliable than any GM suv made today
your a dumbass
***** what? Have you seen a escalade? Yukon? Or even a suburban? C'mon quit wasting my time.
2017 zl1 camaro/2017 camaro fan the newer cars do not compare with this truck. Steel bumpers, cast iron V8, and frame under it. It's stupid of you to even consider being it up
Does anybody really care? Times have passed and as a car turns older, it becomes unsafe.
coolguy6233 no a 2011 town car has a 5 star in safety

$25K for a new Suburban! We sure was living in a dream back then, they're double that price now!
Inflation
I'd never buy a conversion van, but this I would definitely buy if I needed something like it.
This is my favorite generation of suburban.
Neat never seen one with a interior like that.
My dream used SUV!! Amazing video bro.

Man I remember this video when I came out where has the time gone 7 years 😱
That song you put on the radio was one of my favorites. It was called It’s Been A While by Staind
Choo Choo Customs made it all custom , but not the freaking door chime.
Underrated comment, that is the worst thing about 90's GM
You reviewed Rolls Royces, Bentleys, Hyundais, and and out of all of them I choose this one hahaha! Great exhaust note!
I love that Lithiums playing as he's turning on the TV/VCR.

perfect car for driving from coast to coast.
But the years haven't been to kind to that steering wheel :)
I LOVE GMC.
With the wood, leather, and TV these were the awesome...back in 1999.
Sweet! I have a Choo choo customs conversion Suburban, too. I love the nice seats and wood trim.
+rocbola What year?
+xchaindude11x Mine is a '95. Similar set up on the interior. I took out the VCR and added a DVD player. Next step will be a sound system.

that nirvana song was great
jeez you could drive for miles in that thing, amazing.

imo i think newer chevy tahoes/burbans arent as big as they used to be (at least from the inside)
Nick Herrera it's all the safety regulations that take from interior space.
They're bigger from the outside now though.
that is the truth Nick herrera!!
7th gen biggest suburban
Moises Padilla facts they’re stuffed to the brim with air bags and wiring love how roomy my 02’ trailblazer is
Thank you for this review , from chile, still in love with this model

The 5.7L V-8 From (1994-1998) and the 5.3L V-8 from (1999-2006) engines are very reliable

Not entirely true, 1996 introduced the 5.7L Vortec L31 V8. The 5.3 wasn’t put in the suburban until 2000

i wouldnt mind taking a road trip in that!
The old days 💔💔 time goes fast 😔😢
Shut up 🙄 that time is gone forever
The fact that it would take nearly $150 to fill up this vehicle now days from near empty.
Still, they are quite nice vehicles.
perfect car for a loong storm chasing trip :)
Great vid as alawys Kyle!

I just realized after looking up the "Choo Choo Customs" logo that I've seen a lot of these all over the place I lived in Georgia.
"65 tons of american pride"...:-)
Mikkel Madsen umm 6500 lbs is actually 3.25 SAE tons or about 3 metric tons ... Or did I miss a joke?

65 tons is kinda too much for a car. That's a Tank weight

F the 90s
Wow. How did you find a customized GMC because that was awsome.
очень хороший автомобиль!
Still looks well I meant sorry in my other comment love the American v8s and there way of life
Not a very economical vehicle but I still like all your videos.
If I had this vehicle, the only thing I'd do would be to unhook the cassette player from the aux input and install a custom iPod docking station (:
@saabkyle04 True Kyle. I have a 2001 Suburban and its in amazing shape after 11 years.

Before the GMT800 Platform, all full size SUV were named Suburban for either Chevrolet or GMC brands.
