  • This very attractive Seiko Lord Matic (LM) with a gorgeous chocolate dial needed a service and the day date complication sorting out. In this video I do a complete strip down and reassembly of this watch and fix the day date issue.
    Seiko don't make the Lord Matic anymore. This very attractive piece from seiko I guess would be the new equivalent ... amzn.to/2QVeekq

    Just started doing watches after repairing clocks for a living for about 8 years. Bought a seiko LM 5606-8070 last week and couldn't figure out the C clip on the day of the week dial. Glad I watched this before trying to figure it out myself!

      Hey Scott nice one! I am saving clocks for when I am a properly old guy and my hands maybe shake too much for this stuff. Thanks for the feedback.

    Great video. I love the names of watches from back in the day. Lord Matic. What a great name and how perfect for this watch. Thank you, Richard.

    I've got myself my first mechanical alarm, a very nice Poljot Alarm in the square case and surprisingly cheap too. Its a Soviet piece and a very lovely looking movement and like much Soviet stuff is super functional and utilitarian yet delivers a good timekeeping. I have several Seiko's now well other branded Seiko's plus my two 7009's but yet to get any of my grails like a Bellmatic, Pilot, Calculator but the gods of ebay can be generous as that was how I got my 70009-3100 for £1 and it is flawless save for a slightly chipped crystal.

    I'm facing a day-date corrector problem at the moment. Aftermarket metal parts are available on ebay (from VTA).
    Also the lift angle for this movement is 56° not 54.5 so that will pick your amplitude up a little ;-)

      @richardperrettwatchmaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jake ... thanks for the info on the lift angle and I have seen the metal parts but not yet used any. Seems like a good move if you have one of these. Richard

    In my opinion, the 3 most important characteristics of a master watch maker are patience, patience and patience, which you obviously have all 3.

    really interesting bit about the canon pinion being offset on the 5606. Im curious if you use or find the service manuals useful at all. Also if you ever do any King Seiko of the same vintage?

    I have a 5206-5080 that I refinished the case/bracelet and sourced a replacement faceted crystal. It works perfectly except for when I manually try to change the date. The crown does come out to the first position but it refuses to turn.
    I know the 56xx family of movements have the issue with the plastic star cracking if you try to change the date during the 'no no' period but the 52xx are not known for that problem.
    Any ideas what it could be?

      Hi William ... sure Moebius D5 for the slower pivots, 9010 for the escapement and 9415 for the pallet jewels. Hope this is useful, Richard

    Where did you buy the new sock, maybe the mother company Seiko, I think 5606 has stopped producing long ago. I am in Vietnam.

      I use two main sources .... www.cousinsuk.com and for vintage seiko parts I get a lot from ebay . Sellers like www.ebay.co.uk/usr/seikoparts14 .... hope this helps.

    I never figured Seiko watches were of a quality worth the expense of a “Rolex Level” type of service, that can be at least $500-$700 ? Probably more, with OEM parts replacement. I figured they were, for the most part, quartz movement, not mechanical with associated complications. Stupid me, you learn something new every day, even closing in on your 6th decade of existence. The plastic parts ruin it for me. I find Rolex movements are pieces of art, with the brass, steel, pink and blue hair spring components hypnotizing to “watch”.

    i got one of these but its different, it opens from the front, its has the same numbers on it 5606-a it has what i think is an after market dial, i got it as a part of a trade it came with a 1940's era bulova tank watch and an old oris women's watch. unfortunately its not working, i got into it and found the balance wheel or spring is bound somehow and i don't want to unscrew anything to try and fix it because i would just screw it up more i believe. but i do want it to be fixed and running, its 23 jewels and an automatic so it says, i looked up the serial number and according to every site i tried it with it was made in may 1971... is there anyone near norwich connecticut u.s. who is willing to take a look at it for me? i have money to fix it just not a lot until spring summer even better since i work outside. any serious reply would be welcome

    How did you solve the quickdate situation, On mine, it appears that the sprung cock, near 22 on your video at 16:25, that makes sure the date only moves one date is too strong for the quickdate cog. The date wheel will turn with quickdate adjust when it is not seated properly, and when the wheel is off, the cogs move no problem. I guess it would take a full service like this to fix the problem. I have the black quickdate cog too. My movement is a lot cleaner looking than yours though. Oh, mine won't move even with the dial and spacer taken off.

  • @Animalkisser
    @Animalkisser 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Other than the quick set wheel issue, is it a good movement?

  • @macblack82
    @macblack82 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a 5605 (date only version) with the same quickset problem. Mine is a front loader, so a little more work to get the movement out. What would you say is a reasonable price for a repair and service?

    • @SgtMacska
      @SgtMacska 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m getting a 5606 serviced for around $300, but without the quick set problem. I haven’t opened it up myself but I assume that getting the crystal out is not a problem with the right tool

    what is the app you are using to check the beat on watch

  • @TheSchmed
    @TheSchmed 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The radioactive dial of the watch, when worn by a man, when he is standing upright, is at the exact level of his testicles, resulting in a “Chronographical Sterilization” ;)

      There's certainly some truth in what you say Zafar, although some folks actually like the slow pace and long format. I actually released a muck snappier video today because I too thought I was maybe a bit too waffly. It may be an oversteer in the other direction .... it's getting a lot of views though ...th-cam.com/video/xCWtNg2Xzak/w-d-xo.html. Thanks for the feedback. Richard
