I’m new to studying political philosophy and I have a question for you. The question is what do you think is the right method for answering the big questions in political philosophy?
Thank you for that great question. I think the approach that has been called "process" or "continental" is the most fruitful method. I explain it in this video:" th-cam.com/video/Mp9NY-Nu4Yk/w-d-xo.html
@@InsertPhilosophyHere Thanks for the video suggestion! I will watch it now. From my past experience with philosophy the analytical/continental divide is usually different methods in metaphysics, epistemology and literary style. Can this divide also be seen in political philosophy? I find this very fascinating. Is the linked video just an outline of the positions or do you go further in that favour and argue directly in favour of the “continental” or “process” side of the divide? Thanks!
@@jimmyfaulkner1855 The continental/analytical divide does extend to political philosophy. If you look at my channel, I have videos on continental political philosophy and analytical political philosophy. I am very definitely on the continental side of philosophy and see it as a much more useful and truthful approach to philosophical questions, especially political and social issues.
@@InsertPhilosophyHere Oh, that’s great. I’ll check out those videos now! Why do you personally choose to be on the continental side when it comes to the method for answering the big political philosophy questions instead of the analytical side? Why exactly is continental philosophy the superior (or just better) method for answering these questions in political philosophy in opposition to the analytical philosophy method? Thanks 😊.
That is a very good and necessary question but I am not knowledgeable enough to give a learned answer, This video was made for my philosophy course for a U.S. student body, and the U.S. curriculum looks only at Western philosophy. I acknowledge that philosophers from India and China, among other cultures, have advanced histories of political philosophy, but I regrettably do not have sufficient background to do those topics justice.
Real philosophy made clear: th-cam.com/users/insertphilosophyhere
Critically concise and comprehensive.
