I played Halo Reach and even though this was their only space combat mission, it was very well done. The ship handled beautifully in the game. If I remember right it had the rockets and a magnetic rail system to help it launch.
You guys leave out the fact that the Saber prototype was meant to test next gen fighters incorporating reversed engineered covie tech. Specifically the shield tech. The form is most likely meant to better distribute the shield around it. Pretty sure much of it’s shape is cause of the shield generator.
I think the proportions may look off a little bit because the cockpit is All the Way Forward on the nose, and we are used to our Fighters having a cockpit with a long nose in front of it. Plus since it's a double/ tandem cockpit that also can mess with the proportions at first glance. If that cockpit canopy was slid back leaving a long nose in front of it, the proportion would be perfect to the eye, though probably wouldn't make sense to the technology in the game.
Actually in the mission there are an entire squadron piloted by humans, but despite them being top secret until late in the war, all UNSC vehicles and weapons ever were somehow tailor made to be Spartan-sized.
@Bill O'Brien Well yeah. Also on a behind the scenes and artistic point of view, Bungie wanted to show how much more advanced and how truly alien they are.
Hierachy 1871 but does that make it incorrect? I've heard large canon on battleships referred to as guns, so the difference between a rail gun or rail Canon really seems like a distinction without a difference. Kind of like how a pistol is also a gun and also is a sidearm? If it's a large enough shell like 30 mm, I have no problem with that being called a gun or a canon. There are very large Pistols that people refer to as canons...
Dale Stafford thanks for the reply mate, i agree with what you said about pistols and battleship cannons and a rail-gun or coil-gun is still a gun/cannon at the end of the day i was just clearing up a misconception of what type of weapon it is, as many people on first sight would believe that they are simple rapid fire auto cannons when they are actually rapid fire coil/rail guns. about the term 'Rail-gun' and 'coil-gun', its just general term for the types of weapons that uses electromagnetic properties to launch a projectile a high velocities without any chemical reactions, in every sci-fi I've seen i haven't heard the term 'rail-cannons' or 'coil-cannons' used to describe one of these weapons
The cockpit and nose looks like the one on the thunderbolt starfury. And can you please look at the VF-1 Valkyrie(all main variations the a,d,j and s) from SDF Macross(not robotech).
Would you guys ever do the hammerhead fighter from space above and beyond? I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. Also on the halo subject another great ship to do would be the prowler.
Samuel, you guys ever going to do any Warhammer40k stuff? So much history and stuff I'm sure you could film 100's of episodes on it if you guys every run dry.
Never looked at any warhammer 40K stuff personally so i know nothing about it..neither does stuart..normally one of us knows the ship we look at to give new INfo...in this franchises case we both know nothing...so it would be far more random an episode (plus no new renders etc haha)
It is also worth remembering with these in particular how much bigger a spartan is than a regular human. Mjolnir Makes them some 8 or 9 feet tall. So they need to be able to fit inside the ships as well. Although that does beg the question of how they fit into other regular UNSC craft. Surely not everything was scaled to Spartan 2+ sizes. Especially as most of the USNC frowned on or did not even know the Spartans were a thing.
Nice! When i read its wiki i didnt see that, but saw that it was in fact a failure. Interesting! (I did play halo 4 at launch but cant remember seeing it)
@@AntzolY111 I'like the broadsword, looks really bulky but I'wish the UNSC bringing back the Saber in a new version, maybe a cheaper more agile option but with less fire power and durability
I like the prototype is very side scrolling shooter plane looking. The main subject though reminded me a little bit of the pelican only slmmer as well as some Transformers alt modes such as Skyhammer's vehicle shell or Roadgrabber jet mode. I can totally see this being a movie or videogame Transformers alt mode - the open wings is very much something Cybertronian tech would do. It fits in very well with the Decepticon Targetmasters too. I also think it looks like the attack planes in Starship troopers. I'd not mind a model of this.
Another cool ship or rather fighter from the halo universe which I think definitely inspired the broadsword fighter/bomber from halo 4. Also scalings gotta be a bit off it's a two seater fighter one behind the other and there's not a lot of space so I'd say it's been scaled a bit too big I'd say about two times the size of a viper at a stretch but it definitely shouldn't be as big as a runabout
The cockpit wouldn't be designed for Spartan-3's, the designers of the ship didn't even know they existed. Not that there's that much of a difference, most Spartan-3's are only a couple inches shorter on average and have similar builds. Similar enough to mistake one for the other.
I grew up in the US also with Robotech, then I learned about, watched and fell in love with Macross. They are similar, but very different. My biggest gripe has always been Protoculture. In Macross, it is proto (earliest) - culture, the first culture. In Robotech, it's just a power source, better than fusion power. Also like Gundam and Space Battleship Yamato, among many others.
The scaling looks off to me. The Falcon and Runabout, you can stand up and walk around the cockpit but if this is a fighter i cant see the cockpit being that big. Also you should include an F14 in for scaling. It would be cool
Why move the engine closer and put a wing out? Why make it look like a modern military fighter? That just defeats the purpose of them designing a space superiority fighter. Airfoil surfaces are useless in space and just make it heavier, have more inertia and shifts the center of gravity and center of mass outwards. Turning in space will require thrust vectoring which means placing the engines far apart makes it good for 3D thrust vectoring. Yaw control for thrust vectoring is negligent in modern jets because of how close together their engines are placed.
Two person cockpit. Love the craft but hate the launch sequence. Needs strap on boosters to get to orbit. Don't think it can leave orbit on its own. Don't see why three administrations would deny its existence.
Halo Reach, is the best Halo to date in my opinion. I personally though, don't find the Saber to be particularly compelling. Even if it is fun to pilot.
Very possible. After Halo Reach though, 343i took Halo in a different direction from a design and art perspective. Even if I liked it, I wouldn't have expected to see it again.
What Sleipnir said...UNSC...less advanced than the advanced tech side of Star Trek...although the Spartan Armour is pretty great! (Forerunners are pretty epic tho!)
To note, Halo Reach isn't set early in the war. It starts just 2 months before the events of Halo CE, and ends about 3 weeks before Halo CE.
Agreed with Halo Canon. Reach takes place in mid-ish 2552, which was the last year of the war(which involved any major fighting)
I played Halo Reach and even though this was their only space combat mission, it was very well done. The ship handled beautifully in the game. If I remember right it had the rockets and a magnetic rail system to help it launch.

Yeah gotta remember the tech levels. Like the larger ships. Big bulky parts and areas for equipment that they can't shrink yet.
They also got the name wrong, this isn't a saber, it's the YSS-1000 prototype
Aaand this is why we double check out I formation before blurting it out
Ah, the Saber. I remember flying one of these beauties in Reach.
I think the proportions may look off a little bit because the cockpit is All the Way Forward on the nose, and we are used to our Fighters having a cockpit with a long nose in front of it. Plus since it's a double/ tandem cockpit that also can mess with the proportions at first glance.

After watching this, it makes me want to play Reach again! Fantastic work as always!
The ship is so big, because no human flys it. Spartan2 are flying those things and they are larger than normal human people.
Actually in the mission there are an entire squadron piloted by humans, but despite them being top secret until late in the war, all UNSC vehicles and weapons ever were somehow tailor made to be Spartan-sized.
I think that goes for lots of Halo ship tech, Human is bulky and archaic, the Covenant is slim and advanced.
@Bill O'Brien Well yeah. Also on a behind the scenes and artistic point of view, Bungie wanted to show how much more advanced and how truly alien they are.
I think that most people get confused with the rapid fire weapons of the Sabre, they are not 30mm auto cannons but are 30mm rapid fire rail/coil guns.
Hierachy 1871 but does that make it incorrect? I've heard large canon on battleships referred to as guns, so the difference between a rail gun or rail Canon really seems like a distinction without a difference.

What about the Longsword?, is HUGE, the Broadsword is cool to.

More Macross than Gundam, really for that concept.
Actually the concept drawing Is from ACE COMBAT 5: THE UNSUNG WAR its called The Faulken google it.
This is an awesome ship! Love the design.
Are you ever going to examine the Covenant ships?
I would love to see Foley's reaction to the Super Carrier.
Yes..already filmed! :D

Very underrated.
Good job, keep it up.
Gotta remember the size is related to a Sparta not a regular human. Spartans are much larger.
Fun little thing that'd be interesting to see in scale to other ships, the Arwing and the Great Fox from Star Fox.
Just on thing. The Sabre did make it into full production by the time of Halo 4
Nice! When i read its wiki i didnt see that, but saw that it was in fact a failure. Interesting! (I did play halo 4 at launch but cant remember seeing it)
That was a broadsword not the sabre
@@MegaPikachu5 broadsword sucks
@@AntzolY111 I'like the broadsword, looks really bulky but I'wish the UNSC bringing back the Saber in a new version, maybe a cheaper more agile option but with less fire power and durability
From the front it looks like an A-10 warthog fuselage! Brrrraaaappp😃

Your guess was actually fairly close. F14 is 19m long, and the sabre is a bit over 24m long
More Halo! Longsword Fighter! Pelican Troop Carrier! Some Covenant ships too! Plz!!!
Yes yes yess
If he thinks the Sabre is big for a fighter, wait till he sees the Longsword. That thing is like twice the size of the pelican!
Wow, that concept sketch looks like a super-plane from Ace Combat. I like it a lot better than the final product, TBH
This is a pretty cool ship. HUGE for a fighter by Stat Trek, (or even BSG) standards. But still pretty cool.
I was happy to see You guys 1st look- at the Raza.
I am still waiting to see the White Star Corvette from Babylon 5
Great video! I'd love to see analysis of other Halo star ships and fighters from all factions (UNSC, Covenant, Forerunner).
Do either a unsc destroyer the infinity class carrier or the cos super carrier long night of solace please
Sabres were launched into orbit on top of rockets. When did you guys start playing Halo?
In the front view shot, that isn't a X-wing, it's a Star Fury fro Babylon 5
A fighter-bomber, like the Sukhoi Su-34 Fullback
The cockpit has to fit a Spartan 3, which not as big as a Spartan 2, still larger than a human.
The cockpit wouldn't be designed for Spartan-3's, the designers of the ship didn't even know they existed.
Not that there's that much of a difference, most Spartan-3's are only a couple inches shorter on average and have similar builds. Similar enough to mistake one for the other.
Noble Six fit just fine so yeah the 3s aren't that big. Been awhile since I played. Had to give that shot a better look over.
Don’t forget about the bomb bay
Should really do a vid on its successor, the Broadsword from Halo 4
Should cover the Rocinante.
reach wasn't blown up. it was glassed by the covenant
QUESTION. Are you going to do the Hammer Head from Space Above and Beyond?. Loved the program and the ships.
Anyone know the intro music? Also, Hammerhead fighter would be neat.
Awesome video. could you do a fleet yard video on the Gorgon class battlecruiser from Starcraft 2
In my opinion it's gneneric SF space fighter. Nothing bad about it, but still generic. Tomorrow I'll forget how it looked like...
There was only one Spartan piloting it and that was the player the rest were piloted by normal pilots
Yes.Those where NOBLE 6 and other where Air Force pilots
F-14's are pretty big for a fighter.
Mike Lovecchio and an inspiration for the VF-1 valkyrie variable fighter from sdf Macross.
Whats Macross?, oh you mean ROBOTECH lol j/k Don't tell Minmei.
Mike Lovecchio I prefer the original. Robotech is ok but if love to see macross get love on this channel.
To me they are the same. I live in the US, so for us it was Robotech. Although as a fan of 80's cartoons Gundam > Macross.

Please do The Expanse
Demo version OF HALO Reach has the fighter level to try for free.
Do terran empire battlecrusier (starcraft)
Terran Dominion/Confederacy, not Empire. :P
Richard Busuttil thanks 4 correction.
Matthias but cooler and more intimidating. Really what the Klingon cruisers should've look like sigh..

Dark Guardian highly experimental and if found by the covenant or inserectionists would need to be scuttled emediatly.
