@@SaltimoreShould be thanking cody for that, the whaaaaa petering out combined with hbox's stare is possibly the funniest thing to ever come out of pro melee since my b
Funniest part is that he almost passed out from standing up too fast and screaming. Said so himself. That’s why he trails off, said he was about to fall down so he held onto Hbox
"Most people think my pop-offs are excessive," Hbox said, "but what they don’t realize is that most of them are barely detectable." "I guess we only notice the big ones, huh?” I said. Hbox began to walk away. "Oh, and buddy?” he said, turning back. "I'm popping off right now." -Deep Leffen Bot
We are forgetting about something very important: Cody "I Did More Work Than The Average Person" Schwab didn't just go from point A to point B, he went from A to B to A to C across both the horizontal and vertical planes. He did enough work to lift himself, a (presumably) 170lb man, off the ground ~7 times. It may not be enough work to surpass potentially breaking his own foot, but it might come close to flinging a chair
work is calculated from start to finish, the work he provided to lift himself up is matched by the work done by gravity to pull himself back done where he can continue his movement since altitude of starting point = altitude of ending point, we do not need to calculate any vertical work in this situation
This moment was so iconic that it overshadowed the other really funny part of that set: the crowd counting the times HBox grabbed ledge. Definitely dealt some psychic damage to Cody.
I really wanted to quote a passage from TheTurnip's satire article "Deranged Hungrybox Won’t Stop Edgeguarding Kids at the Playground" but the server that host the website is down now. No doubt caused by the deep pockets of Hbox himself. This is the worst april fools day ever :(
I think a better way to go about it would to calculate how much energy it takes for each jump Cody makes. Also the chair equation needs to use the mass of the chair not hbox and also take gravity into consideration. I expected more rigor out of this...
Just wanted to say as a big fan of both Melee and Speedrunning it was really cool to see Adef appear in this video to endow us with some of his physics knowledge. Great video, had me laughing my ass off as a science geek.
One thing you missed was the amount of work Cody did during his pop-on through screaming. By finding out how loud he screamed and how far his voice projected, the Work done could be calculated.
The most shocking part of this video for me was seeing the average weight to height ratios. In 2021 I was 6ft tall and weighed 140lbs, for 5'10 the high end on the chart was 184lbs. I have been working out since then and finally reached 180lbs, I just can't believe how big the average American is, I know I was scrawny as hell but now I'm at a healthy weight and I'm still lighter than the average 5'10 American while being 6ft
Jokes aside, a moment that’ll always stand out to me is hbox missing the final rest against zain in super smash con 2023. I’m convinced that this was divine intervention to prevent lives being lost from the pop off that would’ve been
how did we not do analysis of how cody is about to pass out after yelling so much he goes lightheaded- has to do some weird belly grab onto juan and is holding on for stability lol
This is the best video you've ever done lol, well done sir! Also this is the moment that made me decide that Cody is a villain and I would forever root against him in every match up.
I don't play melee but I have to say Cody "I be doing moderately more work than every human on earth put together" Schwab is a generational talent and I'm glad I got to live in the same timeline as bro Smash has to be one of the funniest and coolest things I've seen as a spectator
You know its a good april fools video when you can tell it was an april fools video months afterwards and its your first time even watching the channel lmao.
I was there, it was beautiful. Also got to interview Walt, so fucking nice and down to earth, hope to be able to talk to you again man! Keep up the great vids!
Melee is the only fighting game in the world where the players consistently die. Wizzrobe, Hungrybox, Axe at one point. Games can get as fast as FighterZ, SF2 Turbo, and UMVC3, but the PRESSURE players feel when playing a fighting platformer is unmatched.
Oh my god the amount of WORK you put into making this video ! You really went on to look for measurements of the players and the tables and stuff just to do some janky maths XD i can't believe it. YOU should be the one wearing the tag "IBDW"
But you failed to account for the fact that, as he tactically cut off Hbox's popoff, he thus did more work than Hbox there and could reasonably have done enough to change his name.
An important variable that was mentioned, yet not included within the final calculation, and would change the final answer: The force required to interrupt an hgod popoff peak-hype, that Cody first overcame, then pushed through to advance his own popoff. Like two stars circling each other in a dance of millennia, the energy projected from both players clashed, yet were kept in perfect balance with each other, persisting even throughout Cody's "stumble". Still ultimately too much energy for one being to handle, but it's done him good since, i'd say.
"Pop off" is just being hype 😂 When you're locked in to an intense battle then suddenly fly 209mph across the screen with an explosion, you can't help but feel something. I've since branched to playing traditional fighters like Tekken and Street Fighter, but nothing beats that feeling of Smash
Didn’t think about air velocity out of his lungs He almost matched HBox’s popoff ability and almost fainted on him (as you can see with the fupa grab frames, or FGF) Pre FG he was jumping up and down AND shouting, not giving himself enough jumps to recover onstage from the negative frames of not l-canceling, completely forgetting the now easy and almost unconscious breathing tech. So during the FGF you can see he’s in tumble, and HBox does the homie grab so iBDW can recover. Didn’t have to do it but he knows how hard the popoff tech is now, so he gave mercy therein writing in stone he is the HGod, and Cody Schwab didn’t gain a new moniker, but lost it. Instead of iBDW he is now known by his mortal name.
Y'all forgot to account for the leverage in the situation. It wasn't just straight force, he used his intellect to get more done with less energy input. You didn't account for the fact HBox was about to pop off, nor the fact Cody wasn't expected to pop off. It was a sudden shock that used HBox's win to his advantage.
There are so many good jokes tucked away into the script of this video. I can't keep up. My brain freezes and I have to think whether these are actual jokes or just painful truths (like the most talented players in the world competing for $32).
I remember solving questions on difficult college exams like this where I wasn't 100% sure how to get the answer they were looking for so I just "Shotgun Blasted" any relevant numbers, theories, and equations I could find to try and get some sort of result knowing damn well at the end of it that it was just a page of meaningless bullshit that danced around the original question and I prayed for partial credit.
Unironically, I don't understand why anyone would be upset about their opponent being happy that they won. Like, if my opponent felt like defeating me was absolutely nothing and the easiest thing in the world, that would make me sad. If they're happy, that means it meant something, that I was a worthy challenge to overcome.
Your content is amazing, your edits, your scripts, etc. I do feel like it would be more noticed on newer games, like Ultimate (I know you do some Ult). I really enjoy the Ultimate side of things from you. Maybe consider branching out to other fighting games as well.

Everytime Cody wins a Major, in my head I hear, "YEAH, YEAH, YHEAH, YEAHHH, GOOD SHIT JUAN, GOOD SHIT JUAN, WAHHYYAHHHH......."
If he had stopped just before the weakened “WAAaaaaahh” probably would’ve chopped a good 10% off of the embarrassment.

Walt's video on the Pop-Off that killed a man is how I found his channel. Happy to see we've come full circle
I would be pretty adamant too about the jumping calculations.
Although I guess that would have made for a video twice as long to produce.
Even jumping at a quarter metre height would almost triple the final figure for work, definitely overlooked in this hypothesis!
work is calculated from start to finish, the work he provided to lift himself up is matched by the work done by gravity to pull himself back done where he can continue his movement
since altitude of starting point = altitude of ending point, we do not need to calculate any vertical work in this situation
Walt's idea of a joke is to make a standard Game Theory video
I didn't think this was a April fools video til he said "totally real analysis" cuz this just feels like something Walt would do
My single favorite April Fool's tradition
You’re not factoring in the fact that Cody stopped Hbox’s pop off meaning he had Hbox’s amount of work just to stop Hbox
"What we're failing to consider here though is that Hungrybox has a galaxy dumper" I burst out laughing at this line, jesus dude
This moment was so iconic that it overshadowed the other really funny part of that set: the crowd counting the times HBox grabbed ledge. Definitely dealt some psychic damage to Cody.
The gyatt coefficient is not something I thought I would hear ever, well done.
I should stop looking at the comments before watching the video
Bro what 😭
That time Hbox almost broke his foot kicking a chair is amazing. Hard to believe that happened sometimes. So funny
Same with the fainting clip. I forget how insane Hbox lets his emotions go sometimes lmao
Counter-argument - Cody HAD to change his tag because he wasn't doing ENOUGH work

it cancels out because hbox screams just as loud, as demonstrated per pizza thermo

That’s the high end mate. 184 lbs is considered “overweight” at 5’10. 140 at 6’ is scary, glad you’re doing better
