@@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor My problem with my 2007 Toyota Yaris is that when I start it idles at 2000 RPM and even after it warms up the idle does not go down, what do I do? I thought there was a Idle adjustment on top of the throttle body bu there is not. any suggestions?

As far as I am aware idle speed cannot be adjusted with that Allen key screw on any engines with a throttle body. That screw is just a stop for the throttle butterfly and not an idle adjustment, which is electronically controlled. If you turn that screw in then the butterfly comes away from the throttle body and the air will no longer go through the idle circuit. What I have learnt in my 35 years of experience is to NEVER adjust your idling via that screw. You turn the screw until it’s just touching and then one quarter turn in. Idling is not adjustable on these engines.
It comes in handy when your car stalls frequently at traffic stops, you can readjust the engine to idle at a higher rpm in such case. I think they put this adjustable screw for a purpose, may be for a temporary fix.
Adjusting it the way he did helps if a new part such as a Idle Control Sensor was added that has a slight bigger opening for air which increases RPM’s.
This technically correct - however on high mileage Japanese cars up to 2004 experiencing low rough idle due to low revs, the most cost effective quick fix is indeed to adjust the throttle stop up slightly. At this age these vehicles cannot have the parts cannon fired at them - MAF sensor replaced (no difference), Throttle Position Sensor replaced (still no difference!) etc. First time I went through this I was out of pocket a large sum of money snd still too low idle. Owner adjusting the throttle stop up just a bit immediately fixed the issue in 5 minutes and cost nothing. The car is kept in generally good running order and regularly serviced but I can’t justify big $. I don’t care if it affects the car long term to raise the idle speed a smidge because it’s nearing the end of its life anyway. If it lasts another 5 years then great
Also Toyota Auris 1.4vvti with same engine from 2006. no setting mechanical idle throttle. Only over ECU. There is a small nut like you have on old Corolla but they welded that small allen hole so you can not use it. Funny thing is everything else on the engine is the same, almost. River Browning ... the man speaks truth! It's alllllll electronic. Disconnect the battery, clean the air flow control thingy, connect the battery and turn key to on...wait like 5 mins, then start. There'll be a shit ton of smoke coming out of the exhaust, that's the cleaner fumes, but then the computer will adjust itself to the proper idle. My idle dropped a few months later...I replaced the filter and cleaned airways, repeated the cleaning bullshit, and its runs fine. If the idle drops when the air con is on, clean out the gunk in the pulleys and fan. Make sure everything moves freely. If it's still idling like shit... change and gap your plugs correctly.
I couldn't find the name of it so what i did was go to auto zone got a pack of m5 bolts the long ones. Some m5 spacers and used the nut. Youll have to use alot of spacers but it works
dude your messing with the tps setting which will throw off your timeing controlled by the ecm leave it alone your having a idle air control vale proublem or a vacuum leak.
The throttle position sensor is attached to the throttle plate for this engine. The throttle plate is the idle air control valve after the engine reaches operating temperature. The open loop is controlled by an actuator below the throttle body. The actuator is controlled by a coolant temp sensor. The actuator opens the high idle valve when the coolant is cold. Closes it when warm then the air flows through a tiny gap in the throttle body. That gap is made by that set screw. When the plate turns so does the potentiometer type position sensor.

Hi Peter, I have a 02 Celica gts, the idleler revs up and down after I come to a stop, any idea on what I can do? Took it to the shop but they couldn't find the problem, thanks in advance
Hi, you need replace idle speed adjuster in throttle body.
Can you please send me a link to the part, thank you

Can I put simple 8 number nut and bolt in it ?
Yes
Hi i know this is a dumb question but what is that screw or whatever called. I just tired to do this and the bolt or screw broke..
Right 👍
Hello Peter, pls give me a clear answer ,does this harm tps values??
Hello Kasun and thanks for watching my vid.
No harm for tps.
hi peter! my toyota corolla had a problem, my engine was vibrated when AC compressor running. do i need to adjust the idle speed to high rpm? help me.
AC compressor is old and bad. Needs replace
Peter Finn thank you peter for the help.
No need if idle is okay? I think I idle around 700 which I thought was proper. I was told to consider it for acceleration issue but I don't think that makes sense.
👍
Humm have 2000 toyota celica, And when the engine is running, the normal engine speed is very low at 900 rpm, should I set this to 900 rpm?thank you
Yes and yes
If i have 1000rpm at idle i should adjust that Up ? Or down ?
I have read your message, Thank you 😀👍 Please Join my member.
Hey, great videos! So I tried it and it fixed it perfectly but then when I tried starting it again after it got cold the problem was back like I never adjusted it. What happened?
Hi, you need a new throttle body
çünkü vvti motor kendi ayarını kendi yapar.
Hi peter tried this today because of a low idle for many years 2005 Corolla but it seem to just rev to 2000rpm then when I lower it down it goes to the bad idle again doesn't want to go to 800rpm its high or low idle even with small adjustments is it something I'm doing wrong.
+john hennessy Hi, please do bolt rotation very slow and keep engine running same time. And be carefully with radiator fan !
Hi peter will try again today thanks.
@@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor 😂🤣 🤣you probably stuck your hand in the fan or something droped into the fan while setting that idle?
Peter, Wifes Corolla idles perfect after initially going up to almost 2000 revs on cold start up. Just wondering is it normal to rev to this extent when cold. The car idles smoothly when warm.
It is normal
Can someone tell me where the TPS (Throttle positioning) sensor is located on this car?
Noted 👍
Hi pls I need help I have a problem my toyota corolla professional 1.3 2010 model not idling when I drive just cut it off so pls I need help

Ok. Noted
Please help if you can. 2ZRFE 1.8 Digital Throttle Body, Ive relearned/reset/ battery disconnect,/ cables crossed without battery 20 minutes, replaced MAF x 2, replaced alternator, replaced camshafts sensors x 2, Crankshaft sensor, air filter, spark plugs x 3 times, coil pack x 2 times, injectors x 3 times, replaced head gasket and seals, replaced the coolant, changed oil @ 3000, changed transmission @ 10,000, replaced coolant fan, and preformed a battery reset and still having an idle whenever at idle and at warmed up plus whenever coolant fan kicks on it drops the rpm. Whenever I put ac on it smooths out. Oh ya I replaced water pump, Serpentine-Belt, timing chain, Crankshaft bearings too. Anyone wanna help.
Where can i buy replacement screw
Used throttele body
Hello peter finn. This is safe to do? Mine is 600 rpm when normal temperature. Feels low and car is shaking. I hear that 600 rpm i normal for vvti. Is this true?
+MysterY MysterY This is safe to do and 600 is Ok rev.
Mines as low as 600 sometimes it idles about 750-800. I believe 750 was factory- dont quote me though. Im gonna bump it up to about 9-1000 on my 02 1.8
thanks for the info, good man
Glad to help
good video! where are you from? I alway call that tool an allen wrench.
+iluvherb2 Thanks for comment. :-)
maybe I missed it but what is the RPM supposed to be
800 ish,
800
Einstein was a genius in relativity, you are genius in car
Thanks !
Peter my engine management lite is on my 2002 corolla 1.4 vvt.i and there is a slight splutter from the engine do u know what this would be please..
Please, do video to me. I listen then.
Spark plugs.
Thank you very much.
You are welcome!
question, by doing this do i get more speed?
Maybe
Thank you! very informative!
Glad it was helpful! 😃
Does anyone know the name of that bolt, I snapped it...
Im trying to figure the same thing out. Mine snapped to and i don't want to drive my car like this. Have you figured out what its called?
Thankyou.my cable is actually loose.
Thanks for comment, 😀👍
My cable is loose like a lot how do I make it not loose
Noted 👍😀
excellent video
+Max CC Thanks for comment. :-)
thanks man fixed my problem . does this occur often ?
No. Very rare
ok , took wifes car for good long run and absoutly flogged it ( drove it like it was stolen ) next day idle had changed and kept stalling , i did the above and this fixed the problem , cheers mate
Hi and many Thanks for comment. :-)
larr lawson
No, over a cars life you’ll have to adjust it now and again, but once it’s set it should be good for a long while.
anyone know where the idle adjustment is hiding on a 2009 corolla 1.8 L
There is no adjusting
Peter Finn Hi. If this is the case, then how do I adjust the high idle problem? I tried to change the throttle body but it's hardly compatible with it
Video states 2000-2010. 2007 has "Throttle by wire" and not any adjustment.
👍
What's the name of that bolt?
I couldn't find the name of it so what i did was go to auto zone got a pack of m5 bolts the long ones. Some m5 spacers and used the nut. Youll have to use alot of spacers but it works
Good point 👍😀
This does not work for the 2009-2010 models. They have an electronic throttle body. The car is also fuel injected.
Hi My Friend and Thanks for feedback. :-)
How to adjust electronic throttle body? I have corolla 2010 1.6L manual gear car. Having same problem. Please help or reply me any useful video link.
Me funciono, gracias por el dato, saludos !
Thank you very much 😀
dude your messing with the tps setting which will throw off your timeing controlled by the ecm leave it alone your having a idle air control vale proublem or a vacuum leak.
Ok
😂
The throttle position sensor is attached to the throttle plate for this engine. The throttle plate is the idle air control valve after the engine reaches operating temperature. The open loop is controlled by an actuator below the throttle body. The actuator is controlled by a coolant temp sensor. The actuator opens the high idle valve when the coolant is cold. Closes it when warm then the air flows through a tiny gap in the throttle body. That gap is made by that set screw. When the plate turns so does the potentiometer type position sensor.
thank you, i didnt know that.
+margaret borsbey Thanks your comment. :-)
Thanks
Welcome
Why dont you ever reply back !!!!! In so many feeds ive messaged u
Hello 😃, I have read your comment and I appreciate it. Thanks. 👍
Que esta haciendo ..??si alguien me puede explicar...
Cris Di lo hico turbo
if the idle is too high or too low, that is not going to fix it, the problem is not mechanic.-
Noted!
07 has flyby wire.
Ok
OKE,,, it wil make your car run faster and condsump moor gas or slower and condsump les bud ehe...
