Yeah well she got her way - the Council plan was to poison all the fish. (unless they passed EA health checks and could be moved). I don't know how many actually got moved.

It's why we spend more on carp care than our actual kit. So we can get them back in prestine condition so we can catch them when they bigger. Children should fish rather than spending money on games. Beside if you buy fishing gear you will never have cash for drugs.

when that lady came over you should of asked her how much she pays a year to look after the rivers, lakes, ponds etc.. which is all covered in a fishing license!! also we the angling community (lol) take alot more care of the wildlife we especially look after our fish. miserable old jobsworth!!

Sure, they may clean the rivers, but here at least they trod on beds (reds) like a bunch of idiots. And then they have the gall to yell at anglers.

I know I'm very late with this(years late ) but this video is amazing . I've been a angler since a child and this is why I wouldn't ever fish these type of places .
I understand her point of view but don't agree with it and I've always fished with a touch of guilt or acceptance that it's not the most helpful thing in the world to nature (let's just be honest ). It's a bit of a battle I have with myself .
But certainly loads of kids love seeing anglers and it's a case of understanding all the points of view and not attacking either perspective .
Seeing the child at the end with his grandparents made me so happy. You guys dealt with this whole situation amazingly in my opinion . Great video .

I'm 14 and love fishing and treat the fish with care that lady should want young people getting into fishing it teaches you abou wildlife and keep your mind occupied and helps young people stay out of trouble .i spend any money I earn on carp fishing tackle such a great sport and past time.

Sadly St. Georges Park can no longer be fished due to people like the lady in the video. People dare I say not native Bristolians who have moved to Bristol and want to dictate to locals what they can and cannot do. I have fished all my life not taken drugs and not been in trouble with the Police. Since the anglers have left the Park due to the lake being netted it has become a no go area after dark and even in daylight hours many people feel unsafe. The lady mentioned cruel despite all the fish being released unharmed. UNLIKE ALL THE CARP THAT WERE KILLED WHEN NETTED FOR FEAR THEY MIGHT TRANSFER DISEASE! I bet that woman was not there then! During my life I have helped out netting and restocking Rivers and Lakes I have reported several cases of pollution and picked up rubbish left by non fisherman when on my way to my swim. I have witnessed numerous measures to improve the welfare of both fish and wildlife.Environment Friendly Keepnets and Landing Nets, Barbless Hooks, Unhooking Mats and Sacks, Strict Rules of numbers and species to be kept in keep nets in matches and lead free shot to name a few. However, the Lake now has been closed to anglers (REF BRISTOL.GOV.UK Website) and no longer will youngsters be able to enjoy the sport I love. Would she rather her grandchildren take up a hobby such as fishing or take up drugs? I know what I would choose and it is not drugs!
Once again another class video well done to both of you for catching some stunners and back in the day people would of been hunting to kill at least we take care of the fish and wildlife and when we do catch fish we can be a good hand on helping them on their way if they have some sores etc. i do think she over exaggerated on what you were doing and you were causing no harm but she is entitled to her opinion just like us all. Nevertheless fishing is a sport and as long as we are respecting what we do then all is well. :)

Good news. The Angling Trust has stepped in and all healthy fish will be safely relocated.
My reply to any anti fishing brigade is that most rivers and lakes wouldn't have fish if it wasn't for anglers. With all the pollution anglers licence fees have saved not destroyed water ways. If it were not for licence money nobody would have taken on polluters and repaired some of out most prized bits of nature.
Good video, shame about the daft cow who doesnt realise the majority of fisherman are out to look after the fish for than anyone else and to anyone who says hooking a fish in the mouth is cruel is wrong, fish dont have nerves in thier mouth making it impossible to feel pain from the hook its self

Fair play to Alan for not losing his rag with the miserable moaning woman. I thought he conducted himself very well and was a great advocate for angling as a whole.
My only criticisms about urban banx would be that it's over too quickly and we have to wait for too long for the next adventure....LoL

If you or anyone see that woman that angling brings in up to 1 billion pounds a year for britains economy and that there are over 4 million anglers in the uk alone and that the environment agency themselves say it helps protect the enviroment and gives younger people that would normally be doing something that they shouldnt something to do. Thats it rank over
i understand wat the lady his saying you did break the rules of the lake however the park his for all the public to use and the money they get from the park will help to keep it open for the public also feeding the ducks and swans with bread is nt any good for the wildlife.
Being a lure angler I must say I fully enjoyed this vid. Great work lads. And as for that rude woman I duno how Alan dent tell her to do one. He was being respectful n she was just being a idiot to be fair. It's great for young kids to get in to fishing. There's a lot worse things they could be doing. Angling does make a difference to people's lifes. Loved it lads !!

+NASH TV Carp Fishing That's really good news. Whilst I've never fished St Georges (only lived in Bristol a year) i love places like it such as Snuff Mills. Brilliant fun and my sin absolutely loves it. Will that be next on the 'hit list'. Where, for example, it is the dogs that are eroding the banks. Such a shame.
Real anglers like Alan respect the fish, they also have much involvement in the welfare of the different species , money and awareness raised through angling can only help our rivers lakes and seas , perhaps we should ask the woman what she has done for fish?

Most geezers would have told her where to go ;-) but you still tried to help her understand why we fish! she has a right to her opinion and so did you, even if she didn't want to hear it, it shows how narrow minded some people are. I bet she wasn't even vegetarian and happy to eat products from very cruel manufacturers. But hey that's just hear say, I've seen Alan take wonderful care of a captured fish.
I've come a across a few people like this woman. Very opinionated, sarcastic, obnoxious, and totally ignorant of the law and fishing in general. That's why I spend a lot of time on the rivers where the public, bar the odd dog walker, are not.

I am a 13 gear old angler and I have been fishing for a couple of years and I am strict only Catch and release I fish as much as I can and I could not help noticing the lady saying fishing was a bad thin. But thanks to fishing I am not sitting inside all day at a computer but outside a couple hours a day and enjoying the weather. Thanks to Nash and all your incredible videos it was you that helped me with learning tactics and methods to the fishing. Thighs lines and whet nets :)

That women saying kids should not enjoy fishing, i'm 15 and I've been fishing for about 4 years now and i wish i started earlier it is loads of fun and she needs to realize that as long as there are lakes, canals and rivers with fish in people are going to fish.
Once I had a very similar situation riding a mountain bike in Macclesfield. Came to a no-cycling section so dismounted and, being as it was up hill, slung my bike over my shoulder. Half way up encountered a bunch of ramblers. "Afternoon" says I, moving to the side to allow full and easy passage to the group. "You're not supposed to have bikes on here" says matey in a very forthright tone, and remained unimpressed that I wasn't cycling and that by carrying my bike it was unlikely that my feet were causing any more damage than his.
Alan you should have asked her if "Friend of the park" is an official title bestowed by Her Majesteys Government, or if it's just a self imposed notion of over importance. The benefits of the coarse angling business and licensing system to the environment for many organisms in and around water courses is beyond measure. But of course some folk are only interested in their totally sterile, anodyne, picture-postcard versions of conservation....
Really enjoy your vidz Alan. Capture what carp fishing is about, urban or otherwise, better than most. More of the same please.

Ive been fishing since I was 7 or 8 with my older brother we have never killed or destroyed wildlife and have only respect for nature. The lady comparing fox hunting to fishing is just a joke killing an fun is completely different her ignorance and sarcasm about the (Fishing Community) as well. Some awesome fish there guys, I've only just started course fishing (probably about the same time you were down there) and have had a good few bream out just around from where you guys were.
That lady at the park - lol. Torturing fish?? I'm getting both my 5 year old daughter and my 8 year old son into fishing and already they are more concerned with making sure the fish are ok and going back healthily than actually catching anything.
I agree with you, respect for our environment and wildlife comes from being so close to it. You learn alot about the fish and it's surroundings and I think that gives you instant respect for it.

I'm 15 and have been fishing since I can remember, I live the sport and wouldn't stop doing what I love the most. That women had no clue what she was talking about, if only she knew how good of an angler you were and how you treat the fish. It's a shame that some people can ruin what we love best though; people leaving litter etc. They give anglers a bad name and then we get judged as one and that we're all the same "nature killers". Anyway well done Alan and Jordan! Can't wait for next one ;)

I've watched this video a few times since it was put on last year. Really enjoyed the whole concept of Urban Banx.
I really like the way Alan deals with the lady in the park. It's about trying to educate people like that of the differences between catching a fish and torturing an animal like does happen with fox hunting. Fishing is not fox hunting! The majority of anglers show fish a lot of respect, probably non more so than Carp anglers.
Sadly in this case I don't think the lady would have listened to any kind of reason. I would guess that she most likely has witnessed 'anglers' acting with a lot less care than Alan shows in this video - no doubt accidently catching birds, discarding litter and generally being a nuisance. It's just a shame she will never learn that the majority of anglers also want to keep those types off our lakes!
Respect! Some would have handled that situation a lot worse and given Anglers a bad rep. She was not open for debate, single minded with too much time on her hands..

I've lived in Bristol on and off for a tally of nearly 35 years, and the docks have played a large role as it is soo central to life in Bristol. I'm also personally close to the docks having lived in a narrow boat briefly and now regularly sailing there, but this video has surprised and delighted me seeing a completely different perspective on the city. Really enoyed seeing Bristol through your eyes and the passion for your sport. With regard to Eastville park, it's purpose has always been for leisure and the stock is there to fish. Bristol welcomes you.

Well done Alan, that was brilliantly handled! Another superb film, Urban Banx is head and shoulders better than anything else on the net. I smashed my PB a couple of years ago on a canal in deepest darkest Tipton in the west mid's. I was on receiving end of some of the same rubbish as well. Unfortunately, that fish along with 3 other big fish I had have all now vanished. May be if there had been a few more anglers on there this wouldn't have happened. I tried to explain this to the ignorant anti after they went but they still wouldn't have it.

The woman has no idea what ‘good’ anglers do for the environment, nature and the wellbeing of fish. My two Grandsons (10 and 5) have a much better lifestyle than many. They are engaging in the outdoors and appreciate their surroundings- even at such young ages.
