Yes more Meshmixer videos!!. No. 6 would be "Make Solid" solves a lot of issues with bad meshes. No. 7 would be "hollow" very useful for turning any mesh hollow inside to use for lamps or to add parts internally
The day I found your channel was the day I was introduced to meshmixer(about 3 yrs ago), still use it today & agree of how versatile it is. Great tutorial Angus.
Angus I would like vey much to learn to use Mesh and to watch your tutorials would be an added pleasure. So I want to place my vote for more of your tutorials on this subject if I may. Thank you and I truely hope yo see futher tips & tricks from you. Bob
It’s a lifesaver. I use it every day. Especially your video on Boolean difference to subtract shapes from others was very useful to create pegs to reassemble the parts post print.
It says a lot about Meshmixer's wide range of tools that "hollow" doesn't even make the top 5. I only started using it recently, but thumbs up for teaching me the isolate thing alone.
It seems like Meshmixer is super powerful, but the interface is so convoluted that I have a hard time learning how to use it. I love your tutorials on it and hope you post more soon!
I've always loved your Tips, Tricks and Tutorial vids Angus, they're fantastic. And yes, I too would love to see more Meshmixer tutorials. Hope you're finally getting settled into your new place.
Thanks again Angus I'm sure your videos are much appreciated by everyone in the 3d printer community. I have been struggling a lot with Blender, after seeing this I'll give Meshmixer a go.
I can't think of a video I've watched lately that deserves a thumbs-up as much as this one. Concise, useful, close-ups of the drop-down menus so we can see what is happening, no mucking about. You should win some sort of award.
I had no idea how to use the shell separation with plane cut -- I was creating multiple copies and deleting alternating halves. Thanks for saving my forehead the pain of being repeatedly mashed into my desk!
I would love to see you do an in depth series on Mesh Mixer. Especially interesting would be topic on how to take various models and combine them into new models.
Oh wow. I needed to Frankenstein two models together a week ago. I downloaded Blender to try to do it and pretty quickly gave up. This looks super easy. Thanks!
Absolutely. I am trying to import mathematical shapes from Mathematica and am having a hard time using the sculpt tool. I would like to see videos about using the sculpt tool and making sure the mesh has no awkward boundries afterwards.
Thanks! great video, I'm using it to splice 3d prints together. One Suggestion though, you may want to add timestamps when you're going through lists, that way I can hop to the info that I am needing quickly.
FINALLY a good tutorial. clear, detailed, explains well and very, VERY thoughtful. thank you for making good videos, Its hard to find nice videos about meshmixer. liked and sub!
Very informative, and thank you for speaking clearly, with a good microphone, I have to rely on Closed Captions to be able to know what people are saying on TH-cam, and people that mumble or have background music make the closed captions nearly useless. Yours are always very good and I really appreciater it/
I don't know what rock I have been hiding under but this is game changing for me. I've been doing the plane cuts in fusion360 directly until now and exporting separate files. Guess that's still useful in some circumstances but either way, amazing thanks Angus!
Doing more Meshmixer videos is a great idea Angus! I have used it before (because you have recommended it before), but I have trouble using certain features of the tool, and would like to see videos on them!
I love meshmixer but it has so many features, is not intuitive and it's really hard to learn. Is like they need to redo the GUI but then it will probably cost money.
I have mainly used Meshmixer to make voronoi (dual edges pattern) stuff and might do a video tutorial about design-slice-print a project like this. I wish I knew how to scuplt in meshmixer like people sculpt in Zbrush, but the stuff you can do in this software for free is really amazing.
To reduce polygons, select the model in the object browser, then hit CTRL/CMD+A to select all the triangles. Then there are two options that will do what you want in different ways. Edit->reduce will reduce the polygons just by trying to subtract them where it can. Edit->remesh with a negative density will also work to reduce polygons.
Hi Angus, Meshmixer, Meshlab, etc great tools, but what I really search for is a tool to "shrinkwrap" a complex multipart model. So I can print a simplified outside mesh...
Good tips! I use the slicing a lot. Also, the scaling is cool since you can enter an overall size along one axis and it can proportionally scale. I like MeshMixer but it's interface is frustrating, with many features effectively hidden by strange interaction modes. For instance, using arrow keys to change snapping increments as you mention. That's crazy! The big ones for me are alignment, slicing, and supports, the latter of which is its killer feature IMO. Happy printing!
Figured it out no probs great stuff ya doing thanks for showing us. If it wasn't for people like u i would probably have to go to Tafe or uni so again thanks heaps.
MeshMixer is awesome, but don't let AutoDesk know you're willing to pay for it, it may just happen, they just got rid of ReMake for the subscription based ReCap. >:(
I know, right? Was surprised to see this. First 123D Apps and ''Catch'' were removed and then the Memento/ReMake annoying change. I was really pleased with Autodesk for sharing a lot of free great programs but hated the way they closed a lot down. Meshmixer is my favorite program from before Autodesk bought it and I'm afraid they wil wreck that too.. It seems everything has to be pushed towards working in the cloud with Fusion360.
Yes I'm specifically interested in how to make support materials in meshmixer. Also I'm confused as to why meshes seem to be a lower quality when they are imported into mesh mixer
They won't be lower quality, but your other software might be 'smoothing' out the triangles. Meshmixer has the option to do it too, but I turn it off as 3D Printers will always print with the triangles and no smoothing. Hit "W" to see the wireframe. All stl files are made up of triangles! It's not the best method for printing curved objects...
Maker's Muse ah. Huh. I tried to import a low poly elephant I made in Blender the other day (many different triangles and sharp edges.) But when I imported it only mesh mixer it came out very smooth and blobby. I'll check some of the setting tonight. Thank you for the tip. I sincerly appreciate your videos and all you do for the 3d printing community
Unfortunately I can do all of this and a LOT more in zbrush. However. That being said zbrush is very costly and very complicated. So to see this being free is great ! Lots of very useful info thanks ! :)
Yes Angus! I have been trying to use Meshmixer recently to fix some rocket league files for printing to give my cousin, but cannot seem to get it right. Would love to see some more in depth tutorials with this! 👌
9:36 the 'every other triangle is missing/flipped' error is often from a quad-based mesh being treated as triangles. triangulating the mesh [cli assimp etc can do it] sometimes fixes this sort of prob
Nice video - I use the built in Windows 10 3d builder program to do all of the things in your Meshmixer video. It is included with Windows 10 and doesn't require downloading and installing 3rd party software.
With scanners becoming more affordable in my case the scan ferret pro, could You perhaps make a tutorial to help us better understand how to make a scan accurate and watertight
Meshmixer is really an awesome tool! A must have if you are into 3d printing. Also i think that some of the features have been integrated in Fusion 360 (in the mesh environment) so maybe in some time it will be fully integrated in Fusion?
Thanks (again) Angus. I've been using Meshmixer since one of your tutorials on it about a year ago (when I built my HyperCube). And like David Adams, I've spent some frustrating hours with the Guess and Check technique of learning new software (we used to call it Trial and Error....). Who reads the Instructions anyway??? :) I particularly like the way it imports into my custom build space (under Preferences-Printer-Edit if your printer isn't already in the list) and that I can set Fusion360 "controls" (so I don't need to learn another set of mouse controls). Could you add the best way to use MM's powerful Support options into a coming video? They seem so much easier to remove than the alternatives in slicers. Keep the great tutorials coming!
Great stuff! I've just discovered meshmixer...so far I've only used it for adding supports so I can print better on my new Sparkmaker ;-) The software for it isn't particularly good at doing that....I'm currently in the process of hunting for some tutorials that will give me all I need to know to build my own models! Always love your vids Angus, you should be getting paid for this...!
Angus, thanks for all the vids and tips. Have you ever tried the support generation within MeshMixer? I just stumbled on a vid talking about this today. Didn't even know it was possible. Looks pretty nice for us Cura users who don't have custom supports.
Any news on new plastics that may or may not be available to print with soon? HDPE or something like it for eg? If not, what's the best stuff for electronic housings that go outside?
Hi Angus, Yes, you're absolutely right, MeshMixer is a wonderfully powerful 3D mesh sculpting tool! I just love creating 3D objects with it, however, I seem to have difficulty trying to access the Print options icon. When I click on it, this message is displayed on the screen : "The current printer does not have software associated with it. Go to Printer Properties to set up software.". I don't yet own a 3D printer, I just want to send an STL file to Shapeways, Sculpteo, or iMaterialise. I opened the MeshMixer Printer Properties dialog box, but I really don't know what to type in as links or file locations. I follow lots of your Makers Muse videos. They're quite informative as well as enjoyable to learn from. I would be grateful to you, Angus, if you could please tell me: How do I solve this problem of not being able to print from MeshMixer? Thank you very much. Earl
Hi great video! If I was making something with a super rough surface texture like ice glaciers/sculptures, what brush would you recommend the most? The pinching tool maybe? Hi, loved the video.. But i also have a small question. I have asked a modeler on fiverr to create a model for me. But when i enlarge it it loses some detail in cura. I can remember that you made a video specially about this. Enlarging small models and keep the smalest details in meshmixer, but i cant find it anymore 🙈 Could you point me towards it maybe? Thanks !! ☺
I'm planning to swim from Brazil to Australia just to shake your hand! Your channel is the best!
Angus I would like vey much to learn to use Mesh and to watch your tutorials would be an added pleasure.
So I want to place my vote for more of your tutorials on this subject if I may.
Thank you and I truely hope yo see futher tips & tricks from you.

ditto!
+Bob Young thanks! Received loud and clear.
Yes please do more tutorials ! I have used your other tutorials and find them rather handy
Thank you for suggesting this software to those new to 3D printing. I don't know what i would do without it.

+Spike Kent thanks mate! Yep slowly things are starting to come together
Angus should definitely have a T-Shirt that just has the word 'Powerful' on it
take a shot, every time.
Unfortunately I'm not Australian, I don't think I could handle it
I have it but never used it before. Watching this video shows some tools that I know I will need to use, especially the plane cut tool.
Thanks again Angus I'm sure your videos are much appreciated by everyone in the 3d printer community. I have been struggling a lot with Blender, after seeing this I'll give Meshmixer a go.

Splitting models in two halves is lifesaving in many cases.
YES, I too would love to see more Meshmixer tutorials
I had no idea how to use the shell separation with plane cut -- I was creating multiple copies and deleting alternating halves. Thanks for saving my forehead the pain of being repeatedly mashed into my desk!
1. Import lots of different formats
2. easily scale
3. plane cut
4. separate or combine shells
5. mesh repair
I did not know you can isolate a plane cut. Ty very very much. Opens up a whole lot for me. Appreciate it.
More videos on MeshMixer - I'm new to 3D printing and your videos are such a help (especially MeshMixer and other free tools)
3d builder and meshmixer are two lovers!
Thanks!
Definitely more tutorials on mesh mixer would be highly appreciated Angus
Full mesh mixer tutorial would be fantastic. Thanks for all your content, love your work mate. Hope you have good aircon in your new place!
I think with all the new people printing these days I think you should do an updated video on meshmixer. I'm still trying to learn it when I can
I didn't know anything about this until now. I am with the rest on learning more about it.
Thanks Angus btw killer shirt.
Yes please, more meshmixer tutorials, great work, thank you
Absolutely. I am trying to import mathematical shapes from Mathematica and am having a hard time using the sculpt tool. I would like to see videos about using the sculpt tool and making sure the mesh has no awkward boundries afterwards.

Thank you! I used to mumble badly so happy to hear the captions understand me :)
Please do more Meshmixer tutorials, I would find them useful!
I don't know what rock I have been hiding under but this is game changing for me. I've been doing the plane cuts in fusion360 directly until now and exporting separate files. Guess that's still useful in some circumstances but either way, amazing thanks Angus!
Got MM after watching one of your older vids...love it. help fixed a couple of problems i had with files.
Doing more Meshmixer videos is a great idea Angus! I have used it before (because you have recommended it before), but I have trouble using certain features of the tool, and would like to see videos on them!
Another awesome video from Maker's Muse! Thanks for all the info you share and kudos to your clear, concise and friendly style of teaching!
You absolute star stuck for a week on separating parts not anymore, cheers Angus 👍😁
Your commentary was very easy to understand and very nice.
Thank you very much ありがとう
Cool video, and I love the shirt.
I love meshmixer but it has so many features, is not intuitive and it's really hard to learn. Is like they need to redo the GUI but then it will probably cost money.
YES! Can you show us how to use the stamp?
If it does what I think, it'd be really cool for postprocessing models. Keep up the good work!
Great tutorial Angus, keep them coming!
So glad I found this through your recommendation last week. What I want to know is how to reduce polys in a overly detailed model. Thanks!
For sure, I think a further top 5... or more video is due to cover those more advanced uses.
Yes please, more of these.
It would be great to have a set of videos on using the align tools and pivots. You do great videos.
Hi Angus, Meshmixer, Meshlab, etc great tools, but what I really search for is a tool to "shrinkwrap" a complex multipart model.
So I can print a simplified outside mesh...
+Duco Maritiem the make solid tool does this. It's not perfect though.
Thanks Angus, happy to watch a bunch of these. Cheers, JAYTEE
Cheers bud just what I needed to get started
Good tips! I use the slicing a lot. Also, the scaling is cool since you can enter an overall size along one axis and it can proportionally scale.

Happy printing!
Hi could you show how to colour or add texture in Meshmixer plz? Your tutorials are very helpful.
Cool video, would you please make a detail video on repair feature of mesh mixer
I like the music at the end. (Rest of video too of course!)
Yesss, let there be more!
I have used meshmixer a few times for repairs but ultimately don't really understand the program. I would love to see a set of tutorials on it.
This is great! With the Moai, I really need to learn more about Meshmixer so would love to see more tutorials!
Yes! More Meshmixer!
Another great video Thanks Angus
Great video, also that stingray shirt is fantastic!
I would love to see a bit about taking an OBJ figure (like an export from Poser) and how you might prep that in MM for 3D printing.
Figured it out no probs great stuff ya doing thanks for showing us. If it wasn't for people like u i would probably have to go to Tafe or uni so again thanks heaps.
Your banging out the videos Angus, good job
Yes! More meshmixer!
Thank u for all ur help.

great video... please let us know if you have done a video in the past or planning to do one in future as a tutorial for meshmixer
Unfortunately meshmixer is no longer in development, I recommend moving to blender if your workflow allows.
this is a good video for a beginner. can i know how do i get the mesh to be uniform ?
Yes I'm specifically interested in how to make support materials in meshmixer.

Unfortunately I can do all of this and a LOT more in zbrush. However. That being said zbrush is very costly and very complicated. So to see this being free is great ! Lots of very useful info thanks ! :)
Cannot explain how specifically helpful showing how to cut the ears off was for me.
Yes Angus! I have been trying to use Meshmixer recently to fix some rocket league files for printing to give my cousin, but cannot seem to get it right. Would love to see some more in depth tutorials with this! 👌
Ridiculous software! Love it - thanks for the video!
