I fly my paramotor from Wright Brothers Airstrip every time I go to my beach house in OBX. I go after the park closes at 5 pm and fly the exact flight of Orval first flights. A paramotor is about the only way to do it today. My buddy turned me on to the airstrip, who lived down there full time and knew people that worked at the park. Unfortunately, on April 7, 2020 my buddy took off from that airstrip and never returned. His paramotor lost power over the ocean about 50 yards from the beach, next to Avalon Pier where he drowned. He would’ve survived if he had floatation devices and a J blade. The people that tried to rescue him said he was alive when they reached him, but his equipment pulled him under and they couldn’t pull him back up on their surfboards. He wasn’t a risk taker or cocky in any way, he just didn’t appreciate the danger of flying over water. I had mentioned to him a couple time he should get floatation devices if he was going to fly over water, but I didn’t feel it was my place to push it too much since he had more experience than me. I was supposed to be flying with him that day, but they closed entrance to the island because of the coronavirus and I couldn’t even go to my own beach house. My profile picture is of me flying over the memorial taken by buddy Bill, who passed on April 7, 2020. My favorite artist John Prine died the same day from the coronavirus. 2020 has been a rough year, Ive lost a lot of friends and family.
009to090 I have photos of me fly over Wright Brothers National Memorial at dusk, but I’m don’t think you can upload to the message. My profile photo of me is flying over the memorial.

If Wilbur and Orville saw those paramotors, guarantee they’d be smacking themselves in the forehead over how simple the machines appear to be! I’m sure they would also be fascinated as hell with the design!
Dude, you are going to last about 2 hours kiting and you will be begging to go to your hotel room and rest. You will be sore with bruises on your arm from the risers. You will NEVER forget your first flight!
Yo dog, I heard you like aircraft, so I put an aircraft in your aircraft. That was an amazing video guys, hope I get a chance to head out there some day, might even bring my own butt fan and go for a cruse.
The dunes at Kill Devil Hills are an ever evolving environment. It's a miracle it is maintained as well as it is. It's a harsh environment with the constant winds and erosion. The only reason the grass was even put there was to try to preserve the site. What we have to remember that the challenges posed by the environment are what brought the Wright brothers there to begin with.
I still get chills every time I walk that route and I've done it a hundred times. #MyBackyard

Ah man, I am so sorry for your loss. I truly believe in flotation. I refuse to fly even NEAR water without it. Such a tragedy.
Thanks for sharing! It’s easy for people to ride on the shoulders of giants, but it’s important to remember the roots of our history! So cool!
The Paradigm Team should circle the Monument at dusk, with all lights on. It would look so epic.

It's sad to see the poor condition of the grass/landscaping around that Monument.
