*One of my favourite songs off of the Album.* It makes me feel a small kind of hope for personal freedom. I feel so trapped in my own life sometimes, I always find myself looking up into the sky and wishing I could just find my own place, away from the system, away from the endless crowds that I never fit in with. To just live in a small home of my own making by an isolated beach with someone I love and finally find peace. I get a serene feeling when listening to this, hopefully one day I can find the peace I’m searching for in my life and be free of the fakeness, the drama, the chaos, the loneliness, the numbness, the feeling of not belonging anywhere and wondering why I’m even trying to maintain a life I’m not happy with. At the end of the day, our own freedom and personal happiness is what’s most important. No matter what kind of life you end up living or who with or where you are. Money, status, materialism, it’s all worthless and meaningless in the face of just finding peace and feeling happy. This song’s beautiful and grants introspection, thank you Of Monsters and Men.
Well damn if that didn't just hit the nail right on the head for me. Relate to every word. I don't want anything fancy or glorified, just contentedness with someone I love in a place that I know is not at the mercy of someone else's decision. Somewhat ironic, since it's such a solitary, introspective feeling, and yet you say that and people respond and agree with you... Always makes me wonder why it's never more of those people near me instead of the usual crowd. I choose to believe that we'll get there one day though, and look back on these comments years from now proud.

Alligator was my favorite for a while because of the hype of you guys being back, it fit so well. but in a long term sense this song is one of the most beautiful songs y'all have ever written and is the peak of Fever Dream for me. I know so many who have never listened to you or don't know you by name, but hear this song and understand the warmth it infectiously emits. I have a severe form of OCD that leaves me feeling claustrophobic in my own body. Whenever I felt trapped, I would look for escape with substances, never truly finding peace or happiness. I have been clean for almost three months now, and your music has helped me through it. It brings me the peace and happiness I crave, and I always find myself crawling right back to it. Your music takes me to a place where I feel free, and serene and my ticks will always calm down. This song topped it off for me honestly, it's my favourite one of your songs and I cannot wait to see you perform live in London at the end of the month! Seeing you live has been my dream since My Head Is An Animal was released and I'm counting down the days!

I was listening to this song on a long drive home when the album first dropped, and during the chorus a moth literally flew up onto my windshield against the sky. It had been stuck in my car I guess, and chose that exact time to make itself known. Very surreal moment attached to a very beautiful song now.

The same second that the song said “dim the lights” (I am wild eyed) all of the lights in the aircraft dimmed. It was a very special moment.
One thing that makes this video so great is that her hair is not dry, Hollywoodish, stylishly blowing in the wind! Its wet at the start, like she came from the water, like she's of the water. She's so natural and that makes her so much more appealing. And her clothes, or lack of clothes, so sexy, but so tastefully done. It's such a dramatic (Swedish horror film) setting with her mysteriously appearing out of the water, you can't take your eyes off her. Great video!!!
exactly, she looks sexy but not defiantly and her look matches the song message. I really want more artists to do so, bc nowadays people usually try only to make money with curvy women in music videos (it starts to be disgusting) Sorry for bad english, I am not native

I really think this song, and a major theme of the album, is that there isn't some cohesive underlying metaphor or story and that should be okay. They still feel inspiration, frustration, and triumph even when those things won't take definable forms. Lots of lines may allude to this, given the right interpretation. It's like she's just saying things that sound symbolic as examples: "a serpent on a bed of leaves in the month of May-- what do you want me to say?", "Before I closed my eyes I saw a moth in the sky, and I wish I could fly that high. Oh don't you?", "All I feel is an endless direction, and I think I'm losing connection". I think it's a reassurance that other people go through that too. The real inspiration isn't in the metaphors themselves, they're just the language that gets in the way but also makes communicating the inspiration possible. Once you go to abstract, people still yearn for a bridge of context to get there too, even when there isn't a convenient one. "Where is my head right now? Uhhh I saw a moth a while ago, and it would be cool to fly like that? What do you want?" Edit: Things like "oh roses, they don't mean a thing; you don't understand" also call to mind a line from a Motion City Soundtrack song: "You're extrapolating nonsense and it really hurts."
Yeah they have successfully updated their sound so to speak, it sounds more modern but is also distinctly them, many artists lose what made them great when they try to do this. Lets hope for many more years of Monsters and Men.

It does if you listen carefully to the instrumentals in the back from half to the ending, they've put their touch to it defenitly! Its an awesome track
Before I closed my eyes I could see a moth in the sky, and I wish I could fly that high. That’s the line that gets me. Follow your dreams, don’t let them fade away.
So I had a dream involving this song last night... I was walking through this massive older plaza/shopping mall area, some big city somewhere, I didn't recognize the place...there was a sort of college-age marching band/choir in red and white costumes, practicing, that came up on my right side in formation, no more than a couple feet away, and they started singing this song, and I joined in with them. And when the chorus hit, the formation broke into dancing...if you could imagine for a second some 200 college kids (and me, a man who the years have taken far from his college days) dancing around a parking lot and singing this song in perfect harmony...it was a most beautiful dream.
I hope their unique music never changes. I caught on to this video 7 minutes after the upload. I was so shocked and glad I was early to an OMAM video. Their music not only changes me; it changes others and for that I couldn't be more grateful. I love their unique lyrics and they inspired me to write a few lyrics myself. I wrote lyrics for a song I wrote called "Peacock" after I saw "Alligator". I love OMAM.
So utterly and massively talented, as well as beautiful...the lead vocalist to Of Monsters and men is both an Epiphany and Hierophant...moving in an "Endless Direction."

Wow, every now and then a song comes out that is perfectly written, perfectly sung, perfectly executed in every way including the video down to the finest detail including the hand movements. Voila
I love the imagery of this video. I heard this band several years ago online and have been a fan. The music is invocative and really makes my evenings calming. The lyrics make me kind of reflect on the pleasures of life, and the privilege. I miss those years I'd sit down and explore on my Linux Machine. Beautiful Song from an incredible band.
The water is a metaphor for sorrow, pain (tears) and her movement while above it and graceful but chaotic strides signals how it feels to channel and work through one's pains.
I don’t think I wrote my own pain. Who would willing sign up for 20 years of sheer brokenness uncomfortableness rejection always being lead down the wrong road intentionally no one. So the place we’re in now makes perfect sense when I break down how an undeserving person got here. But it is what it is.

Wild roses on a bed of leaves in the month of May
I think I wrote my own pain
Oh, don't you?

Oh roses, they don't mean a thing you don't understand
But why don't we full on pretend?
Oh, won't you?
Before I closed my eyes I saw a moth in the sky
And I wish I could fly that high
Oh, don't you?
A serpent on a bed of leaves in the month of May
What do you want me to say?

You keep me still when all I feel is an endless direction
When I think I'm losing connection

In the night I'm wild eyed, and you got me now
Dim the lights, we're wild eyed, and you got me now
Oh roses, they don't mean a thing you don't understand

It does if you listen carefully to the instrumentals in the back from half to the ending, they've put their touch to it defenitly! Its an awesome track
Before I closed my eyes I could see a moth in the sky, and I wish I could fly that high.
That’s the line that gets me. Follow your dreams, don’t let them fade away.
for more musics like this one I raise a glass of wine and scream how i’m proud of listening this beautifull sound
Nanna is a waterbender: confirmed
Stuti Gangopadhyay They aren’t Icelandic for nothing. lol 😂
I thought the same thing hahaha
Exactly what I was looking for when I came into the comments XD
it's a nice skill to have, but i'd have stuck with the flying and the fireballs from Little Talks if i was her... i'd call it a nerf, honestly...
@@olddirtytattooedwarhorse7772 Wait, no, that just means...she's the avatar
Esta banda islandesa é uma das melhores desta geração. A afinação dos músicos é simplesmente perfeita.
Are you going to do anything with those lyrics? Its criminal to do nothing, at least hum a tune for the chorus, something. Find a band to play it.
Foxx Filmzz :(
Can we see the lyrics please ? Or are you not comfortable to share?
Foxx Filmzz, that’s understandable, don’t apologise, I wish u luck with what ever u do :)
@@rukiawesome8210 Aaw, thank you!
So utterly and massively talented, as well as beautiful...the lead vocalist to Of Monsters and men is both an Epiphany and Hierophant...moving in an "Endless Direction."
Ive loved them when I was younger and honestly they never disappointed me over the years. THEY ARE AMAZING
Discovered this yesterday, I'm a year late but I can confirm, it's still a hit!
I only heard it today in a shopping centre...
This band is awesome!
Still listening a year later! This hits amazing at 3:AM
When feelings happen at the wrong time in life. This song is it for me.
What incredible effects! I love the watery pool theme for this one. Probably my favorite music video I've seen from you guys thus far!
If they'd kept following the melody line and beat that goes until 0:33 this song would be just PERFECT.
THIS SONG IS A MASSIVE WOW , THIS IS MUSIC AT ITS BEST ,FORGET THE RAP WE WANT CLASSIC MUSIC ,CANNOT EXPRESS HOW BRILLIANT THIS GROUP IS THERE NEW ALBUM IS IN THE TOP 5 OF ALL TIME FOR ME
Insulting another genre is not a compliment to your favourite band. Respect all genres, even if you dont like them.
With or without eyebrows. Nanna is and angel that makes me feel things no other artist can.
4 years later and still love this girl.
Beautiful Song from an incredible band.
youtube autoplay is actually kinda great. I never would have played this of my own free will, but once hearing it...yup I needed this
Me too.
Just discovered this the other day. Now I can't stop listening to it. Sounds like something from a movie.
hope you see the notification and go back to this mastepiece
@@nic-wl7ff Always!
They are a great band!
Amo tanto esta canción, hasta me hace llorar!!!
X2 😍
This song will always hit different
They have really changed their sound, I like it, but I prefer their older stuff.
wow 4.2k people dislike this song what bloody planet are they from , they have no idea about music this is one of the best songs of the year if not years
Ô banda maravilhosa! O vídeo ficou lindo! Tô arrepiada!
Só não pode ser de novo no Lollapalooza pq se não não conseguiria ir. Ingresso impossível
Mah, eu tbm. Bj amiga
A vibe do show deve ser incrível
Muito boa a banda deles
Meu Deus essa música tocou minha alma 😍😍😍 Amo muito eles 😍😍😍😭
I'm forever grateful for FIFA 16
I heard Crystals on the soundtrack. I fell in love with Of Monsters And Men right away. This song is the best from Fever Dream.
I was so excited when I heard this playing at my Starbucks today. At first, I thought it was just a song with a similar riff.
Brazil loves you ♥️🇧🇷
E COMO... ELES SÃO PERFEITOS!!! OBRA PRIMA! 😍
forever
Once you hear this song, it makes you come back for more
Que HERMOSA es Nana POR FAVOR!!!!! Y está canción me encantaaa
I am going to see them when they are on tour and am currently listening to all of their songs...will be a good day.
When this song makes its way through the rotation on my favorite Playlist I hit repeat...repeat...repeat...the lyrics and the way she sings them hits me hard. So beautiful.
Repeat, and then repeat again. And again.
Um show de música como sempre! Amo essa banda!
Support them guys. Artists need to evolve over time and to do so they need to experiment with music. I Know we all are attached to their old style but this isn't bad, it's good too. Try to understand, it takes a lot of hard work to make music.
Simplesmente maravilhosa, mulher mais linda do universo!
Musica perfeita, voz perfeita, simplesmente encantado com este vídeo!
Mulher maravilhosa!!!
A QUANTUM PACKAGE BURST OF HUMAN FIRE, DRIVE, AND ENERGY...WHAT A SONG! WHAT A VIDEO!
"I couldn't sleep. Seems like the veins, they are breathing. " Passion!
Lee Parker it’s vines... but yeah, that’s passion.
@@vellichr6547 Thank you. I stand corrected. With her Icelandic accent, it's not easy to discern all her vowels...
This is the dance track a good band puts out just before they brake up.
This was the first time I listened and you could say I'm into it.
"First time?"
Same here,!
This track has really been growing on me lately. They just don't make bad music.
This song really captured me from the very beginning. Every time it gives me the same indefinite and powerful feeling as it was the first time that I listen to it.
If this had been released in 2014/15 it would've gone platinum
“ I think I wrote my own pain”
**cries**
i’m so incredibly excited to see them on december 4th
that song is a killer.... it gives you the energy need to have a good day !!! keep it up guys !
Thank you for using me! I feel so loved from Europe and Iceland.
She is an excellent ninja!
the world misses much those old-school type video-clips like this one
This is one of the greatest songs ever created.
Wish y'all would come to the states again. You are on my bucket list to see you all perform live.
the is no word to describe how amazing is this song... even after listen thousands times, they still make me feel so.... so....
SUCH AN UNDERRATED SONG!!!
I was almost sleeping when I got this. I'll have a fever dream now! 👀 You guys are amazing!!!!
Never heard of "Of Monsters and Men" but it was on my recommended and I'm procrastinating so I played it, and this is pretty dam good.
Check out "Little Talks" and "Mountain Sound." Two of their biggest hits. Also Alligator, their latest hit...
@@artlochrie3106 Thanks, I checked them out, so far from the songs I've listened to, the ones I like the most are wild roses, king and lionheart, and mountain sound is pretty good.
@@Heleoo they have a great discography, it's amazing. Listen to Slow Life if you can, I love it!
LOVE this album. Please Monsters make more music! Please, I love it..
I love this! And Nanna is gorgeous
