@@nnovo3122, there are no Trad Masses within an hour of where I live (Steubenville is actually probably the closest). Frankly, I'm poor and can't afford the gas. And the truth is, though I am all for Traditional Masses, I do not consider myself to be a "Trad" specifically. There are certain things that I would prefer to have been left alone... e.g. - priests facing the east and with their back to the people, exclusively male altar servers, Communion rails left in place, Communion on the tongue, sung responses in Latin, etc. That said, I see no problem with the vernacular being spoken so that people can actually understand the spoken parts of the Mass and thus being able to take it in better. I have gone to Novus Ordo Masses all my life, and I think the important thing is reverence and allowing God to fill one's heart. One can be spiritually moved and fed even in the Novus Ordo Mass - and still give glory to God. The reception of the sacraments with the proper disposition, the doctrines and beliefs and the resulting ways we live our lives are what's important, and maybe not so much the exactness of the Traditional format as if it's some kind of magic formula that must be followed or else we're going to Hell (there was not always a Latin Mass, you know... I think it's more in the line of a "discipline" than a "dogma," isn't it?). I'm fine with either Traditional or Novus Ordo. I think the problem is that people (like Pope Francis himself, unfortunately) have allowed themselves to become too involved in the differences and the semantics. We are all Catholics. We should love each other as such. The way I see it is that the Trads can tend to be too scrupulous and Pharisaical, while the NOs can sometimes allow too much freedom in their worship (e.g. - "clown Masses, etc.). Why can't we go back to how it was during the papacy of St. John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVIII when both were allowed, and both were fine (as long as they were done reverently without the scrupulosity or silliness)? Now we have these stupid "Trad wars" that are tearing us apart. Pope Francis says that the Traditional Mass is divisive, but the way I see it is that the concentration and focus on the differences is what's divisive. It's just like the "racial wars" in the secular world. There's more racism in people's imaginations than there is in reality. Problem is that when that imaginative problem becomes concentrated and put out to the public, that's when it becomes an issue. Same here with the Trad wars. We need to unite in our differences and see the beauty of the Mass, in whatever way it's celebrated, as long as it is in good conscience and in proper order, yet without the scrupulosity and silliness. God, help us.

@@timothywilliams1359 Societies of Apostolic Life, "without taking religious vows, pursue the apostolic purpose proper to each society. Living a fraternal life in common in their own special manner, they strive for the perfection of charity through the observance of the constitutions" [Canon 731]. The Society of S Pius X is constituted as a Society of Apostolic Life with the canonical approval of the Bishop of Fribourg [Canon 579]. Such Societies, "since they are dedicated in a special way to the service of God and of the whole Church, are in a particular manner subject to its supreme authority" [Canon 590].
      The Society itself says
The Society of St. Pius X humbly submits to the authority of the pope, supreme guardian of the faith, and pays him all the reverence due to the chosen head of God’s Church.
If and when the time-honored teachings of the Church are obscured or perhaps even seemingly contradicted by the authorities in Rome, however, the SSPX stands firm for tradition.
Archbishop Lefebvre consecrated four priests as bishops in 1998 without authority, an act which was schismatic under Canon Law [Canon 751] and resulted in all five being excommunicated by Pope John Paul II.
In 2009, Pope Benedict XVI remitted the excommunication of the four bishops consecrated without authority by Archbishop Lefebvre, and explained in an apostolic letter:
An episcopal ordination lacking a pontifical mandate raises the danger of a schism, since it jeopardizes the unity of the College of Bishops with the Pope. Consequently the Church must react by employing her most severe punishment - excommunication - with the aim of calling those thus punished to repent and to return to unity. Twenty years after the ordinations, this goal has sadly not yet been attained. The remission of the excommunication has the same aim as that of the punishment: namely, to invite the four Bishops once more to return.
      He went on
This gesture was possible once the interested parties had expressed their recognition in principle of the Pope and his authority as Pastor, albeit with some reservations in the area of obedience to his doctrinal authority and to the authority of the Council.
This mirrors the Society's own statement.
Pope Benedict then dealt with the status of the Society and its ministers:
As long as the Society does not have a canonical status in the Church, its ministers do not exercise legitimate ministries in the Church. There needs to be a distinction, then, between the disciplinary level, which deals with individuals as such, and the doctrinal level, at which ministry and institution are involved. In order to make this clear once again: until the doctrinal questions are clarified, the Society has no canonical status in the Church, and its ministers - even though they have been freed of the ecclesiastical penalty - do not legitimately exercise any ministry in the Church.
Thus although the ministers within the SSPX who were illegitimately consecrated have been released from the individual penalty of that schismatic act, the fact that they belong to an organisation constituted as a Society of Apostolic Life which has reservations about the authority of the Pope and the Second Vatican Council [cf Canon 590] means that they cannot minister within the Church: they remain under interdict.
Because the Society itself (in the second sentence quoted at the top of this answer) has set itself to be the authority to determine if "time-honoured teachings are obscured or seemingly contradicted," it remains schismatic

Yes, Dr. Marshall about 9-10 years ago when our 1st came in as a Freshman (on our 4th now) I remember attending the first Latin Mass on FUS campus and sadly we just attended the last. Over those years we've watched the Latin Mass grow on campus but also at St. Peter's, filled with students and faculty. The Latin Mass community here is so strong and beautiful. As @LatinMassPhotographer I have photographed at both to archive and share that Beauty.
The Juventutem Franciscan group of students on campus is an inspiration of young, faithful Catholics and I feel for my friends as they and the community suffer in their desire to just worship at the Mass of Ages and the faith of their fathers...

Oh yes I see this when I go to daily mass because there is no daily TLM and as hard as it to go i so it out of love for Jesus but then I’m wondering if it’s doing my harm for my soul.
Anyways when I go to my normal TLM in Sunday’s people walk in quiet, they don’t talk or have mindless conversations. When they leave they do the same it’s quietly because many pray after mass.
The NO oh my gosh it drives me the wall the irreverence for Jesus and others. They are talking and being loud and just stay inside the church inside of just talking and closing the doors to talk. No respect for others who want silence to pray. It’s clear in many ways the difference between the two. TLM is the holy sacrifice of the mass and NO is a meal which I dislike hearing that but it’s true. I feel like most priests just go through the motions and you can see which priests truly believe during the consecration. The respect and adoration. The humility of what they are doing.

I have tried to stay after mass to spend some time in meditation and prayer, making my presence known to "lollygaggers" inside the church, to no avail. I don't even think they know what they are at church for, to be honest. It is almost like a social event. We have coffee and donuts after mass in the social hall, but they choose to laugh, catch up on gossip, and whatever else they are doing inside the church. I think it is time for me to go talk to the priest.

The SSPX did save the traditional Mass - 53 years ago and counting.
All the diocesan indult masses and the FSSP only exist as a way to draw people away from the SSPX.
There was a city in the US (can’t remember the name) that had no traditional Mass for years. The SSPX opened a chapel and it flourished.
The diocesan Bishop brought the FSSP to the same town, just down the street from the SSPX.
They put flyers on the windshields of the cars parked at the SSPX chapel, telling them they were being disobedient and in schism, and that they should go to the FSSP Mass instead.
Eventually the faithful from the SSPX Mass all went down the street to the FSSP Mass.
The SSPX had to close and leave town.
No sooner had they gone, the diocesan bishop kicked the FSSP out of town, and the faithful ended up with nothing but the Novus Ordo.

The devil’s time must be VERY short, as we’re seeing non-stop insults and sacriledge. We’re seeing his despiration play out. We should double our efforts to fight the evil, and give praise to Jesus Christ! Saying two Rosary’s a day would be a great start.

I have been on Novus Ordo Masses and we're done in perfectly liturgical way, high reverence on beautiful altar. It is possible to do it...But it's true most of them are far away of that.

I think TLM is so amazing because no matter where you are from or what language you speak, you are home at TLM. It bridges all linguistic barriers.
Have a great rest of your day.🙏🏽

The way the bishops give their burnt offerings to the false ‘shepherds’ in Rome is like paying the cannibals to eat you last. Just say no! Bishops have the authority to say no and the pope does not have the authority to shut down the Mass of the Ages.

Yes, but this was not the actions of the university. The school is subject to the bishop simply due to its location in the diocese. Franciscan continues to grow strong.

I don’t think he has authority to change this celebration. Just keep it going . Ignore the Bishops who are stepping outside of their boundaries.

There is something in the practicing of the Latin mass they do not want to continue. Someone is feeling threatened in the practice. Why?

Dumping the TLM is like dumping the art in the Louvre and say, "why do we need that old stuff when we have Andy Warhol?"
