This video missed the fact that the Eagles learned how to win the scrum by a Scottish rugby coach. That's what took it to another level.
Incredible how this basic point is missed.
It’s a scrum, the end
They called him in to see if they can stop it. He said they can’t because of the organization of the play.
@@johndaily3698 its a rugby scrum. The end

I hope this isn’t banned simply because the Eagles have worked it into an art form.
It’s skilless asf
@@wattsonsplugNo skill whatsoever. It just works by pure accident. Like every other successful play in the game.
Exactly 💯

Like Nick Sirianni said: If everybody could do it, everybody would do it! Go Birds!
Everybody doesn't need to do it because they can actually move the ball and aren't running a high school style offense that got a 10-1 team to implode😂😂
How Bout Them Cowboys 🤠
@@lillagahnavich7700yeah how about them Cowboys. This supposed to be the year y'all finally break through and get to an NFC Championship game and y'all got destroyed at home by a 9-8 Green Bay Packers team that's supposed to be in a rebuild 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@pp3k3jamail not you saying that shows that you don't know ball and are a casual...
how they supposed to make it to a NFC Champ with a banged up old/rookie or sophomoe Oline....no power running back, only short small finesse backs.....a new TightEnd....no true Linebackers (they were running safetys as backers and getting smacked in run game for it)....and they elite Corner tears ACL and out for season
as opposed to Philly who had better Oline...better Rbs....better actual Linebackers....
Yeah if you know ball you know Cowboys were a mirage..but so were Eagles
Cowboys were a personnel issue
Eagles were a weak mindset/immature coach issue

That's all y'all Cowboy fans do is make excuses for your failures in the playoffs. Are you seriously blaming the Green Bay loss on some injuries.
y'all had won 16 straight home games in Dallas y'all are playing a young and very beatable 9-8 Green Bay team at home and at one point y'all were down in that game 48-17

Nothing brings me greater joy than seeing other teams attempt the brotherly shove and fail miserably!!🤣 Go Eagles!!🦅
As a vikings fan 😩.....
Vikings use frikking Brandon Powell to push the QB 🤨🤦♂️ he's 5'-8" 181 pound 🤦♂️ for crying outloud.
Viking got stuff on 3 and 1 and 4 and 1 to turn it over 🤦♂️...
OMG WTF vikingssss
He's the smallest guy on the team, what in the world 🌎 are they doing 🤨😤.
Maybe they we're planing to fake the brotherly push and handed to Powell because he is fast, BUT THEY DIDN'T.

But hey at least the Timberwolves looking really good.

@@ClubMotivated but you didn’t win last year. Eagles are not making it back this year. There’s a good chance it will be banned next year anyway
Whether you like it or not gotta be honest that it takes skill
People want to claim it’s so easy and automatic, but I watch so many teams either try it and BARLEY convert it, or don’t even try a 4th & 1 cause they can’t Exocets it like Philly can! 🦅
@@awprcthats not a skill, thats just strength
Skill? What? Losing to the cardinals? And kyler Murray? CRY SHEAGLES CRY
It’s quite ironic that a Vikings defender thought up the idea. It’s even more ironic that in 2023 the Vikings attempted this play twice consecutively in an overtime period, and lost a few inches both times, turning the ball over on downs, and the Vikings lost that game in OT.
the eagles have the best center and one of the strongest qbs in the league-no one converts like they do
Not just the best centre. Theres a reason it always goes through one side of the o line.
NFL made a small video of the brotherly shove, yeah this play ain’t going nowhere
it’s def gonna get looked at this off szn cause of risk of injury and stuff
And it shouldn't!
@@lukemoore118they have had 2 years of nearly 0 injuries. It should be fine
hope not 🤞 Fly Eagles Fly 🦅🦅
i hope it does get banned before any other teams get good at it, so eagles will always be known as the team that, alone, got a play banned because they were too good at it. pretty sick. they will still be 80%+ without the push anyways they have the best OL for this..
It’s not just a qb sneak! Timing, and execution have a lot to do with it! It’s the push felt round the league!!!!
It shouldn't be banned because other teams have tried it with much lower success. That means that the Eagles are succeeding because of better players, not because the play is "unstoppable"
Where are they now?
I thought just last week, was I not paying attention? I've been noticing the push more and more; I love it! I don't care who is running it, it; 's fun to watch.
Yeah, it’s been going on for two years now, and the NFL can’t stop talking about it. You must just not have watched Eagles games
If I want to see stuff like that, I’ll watch Rugby.

The Defensive side of the ball came up with a play that a Defense cant stop lol
I don't play football in any capacity, videogame or otherwise, just like the complexity of the play design. It takes real smarts. You might therefore be surprised that I like this kind of play. The math is simple: Our offensive line is stronger than your defensive line and there is nothing you can do to stop a 1-yard rush. That's just sports. That's good sports. Rugby players are proud.
The way you stop it is by preventing the other team from getting to 3rd/4th and short. You can't do this on 3rd and 7
5:49 “I kept wondering when we were going to see this”
….no you didn’t, you’re not that smart.
Kansas State under Bill Snyder did this and they pretty much got 2 yards every time they ran it.
It's clearly based in a Rugby Union rolling maul
Defense needs to form up in a rugby scrum. Maybe get some O-line to counter the push with their own.
Good thought on bringing the o-line out to play defense.
Birds read your personnel and audible out of it. Good luck or waste a time out.
@@go_birds3307 If you check out some rugby scrums, you'll see there are two designated wing players who's job it is to chase the ball once it goes horizontal when their side doesn't get the ball.
they can't do that tho, you need to have some players deeper to not give them an easy touchdown downfield, or in case they fake the sneak

EAGLES... Fly Eagles Fly!
I love how the film showed teams posing the ball carrier outside of the sneak. When the Bills (I think it was them) got like 11 yards from a team push the crowd was electrified. Plus it's always fun to see if a team will actually stop it. The fact that the opposing team KNOWS its coming and it's still very successful for the Eagles is a testament to their strength and proficiency.
We have watched teams for 2 years now try to copy it and fail, fail, faaaaaail. There's no dispute that it's not automatic and that it takes skill or every team would have the same success with it. That in and of itself is a reason the play should not be banned. Add to that the low injury rate that everyone was concerned about.
It's an awesome play I hope to see the Eagles use for years to come.
Cringe
Its what football looked like before the forward pass. Football from 120 years ago looked like rugby with a line of scrimmage.
That's right, the same year the forward pass was legalized, American rules outlawed helping the runner by direct contact. Canadian football took another 50 years to do the same.
@@goodmaro the "direct contact" ban isn't something I knew....thanks!
There is a rule against this play in the CFL. It is called a tandem buck and it is illegal to assist the ball carrier by pushing or pulling.
Kevin Gilbride did this in 2006 with Jared Lorenzen in the finale vs. Washington.
I got mad respect for Barr
Before doing it this way the Eagles were crazy good at doing QB sneak.
I would love to see the NFL ban the "brotherly shove" and the Eagles still dominate short yardage situations 😂
I remember Carson Wentz being really good as QB sneaks.
@@christophermanley3602 - until he was injured when attempting one …
Brotherly Bust!!!! Find out that origin 😂😅
Dunno how espn gonna act like rugby players haven’t been doing this for years 😂 😂 😂
Like what Rassie Erasmus did with the scrum, revolutionised it into a weapon!
Thats awesome that a linebacker is credited with it.
It’s a rugby scrum
@@einarjuel it's not, it's more of a maul
@@ashyknees653 that's good info, point is it is not some actual new invention. It's an adaptation, which is great!
everybody keeps saying to ban it, but how? what exactly would you ban from the nfl so that this play isn't legal?
Well that's easy, just ban pushing the ball carrier from behind to advance his progress.
I don't think they should ban the play, but doing so wouldn't be hard to accomplish.
@@crx122Many of the plays Hurts isn’t even pushed from behind (or at least he isn’t before he crosses the down marker.)
you just cant do that. that's removing a vital essence of the game. plus, what happens when another player just touches the ball carrier? even if it's just by accident. can you really expect the refs to make the right call there? what if somebody gets pushed into the ball carrier? it would do nothing but make it easier for refs to get paid off. @@crx122
Not hard to ban at all. In fact it was banned for a large part of NFL history. Just reinstate the ban on pushing a ballcarrier.
you mean the "Love Shove"?
I wonder if the Eagles could score a TD if they ran this play every down in a game. And how long would it take for them to get to the endzone from the 25?? 😂😂😂
I'd say it would take them about one quarter if the clock keeps running. Would be fun to watch once, I guess. And the play would probably be banned by the time they're in field goal range 😉
I love it. Just uncontrollable amounts of strength
I used the QB sneak in Madden gets me the 1st down everytime
Have to keep it legal. Get a few Mike Cron's over there to show them how to set and defend a scrum. If it compresses the width then there's more space on the flamks and out wide. Teach the players how to pass and catch. American Rugby is born!! 😂😂🤣🤣
How the hell can you ban that play if literally no other team can do it besides the eagles. They better not ban it
Proverbs 11:18
The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.
If pulling/assisting a runner is illegal, then pushing/assisting a runner should also be illegal.
Mans got such a cool house
This is rugby and glad this is now banned in a few weeks🎉🎉 lineman shouldn’t be able to be that close together…
The play must stay.
U can't pull a runner forward but you can push lol😂
For a long time it was also illegal to push.
@@westtex3675 Needs to be illegal again. Fullstop.
I think you got the name wrong?
what the one thing that removed from this stops the play JAYLEN HURTS
Fly eagles fly
People who dislike the play are the people who will never go to the right lengths to come up with ways to stop it. Ron Rivera (as bad of a coach he’s been this season) has said he doesn’t think it should be banned because the commanders have indeed found a way to stop it. And other teams have had issues replicating it, showing it’s more a skill play than people realize. Brett Kollman breaks it all down brilliantly, and when people say it should be banned, and I can’t help but scoff a little
Should be illegal. Was illegal for a long time until the NFL decided to aid offenses yet again for the millionth time & reduced prohibitions on aiding the ballcarrier.
Ok I’m a bears fan but the Buffalo bills did push first. Yes the colts did it with Jacoby but week one in L.A. gabe Davis pushes Josh Allen, you can not ignore that
5:20 IKE JUICE!!! 🎉🎉
They hate us cause they ain't us #gobirds
Why would anyone hate on y’all losing the SB last year and then getting embarrassed by the cowboys and pooped on by the 49ers and barley beating the giants in the past weeks 😂
Nobody wants to be ya'll. You're pathetic. team and city . . .
They should just legalize defenders pushing a different other defenders
Not the derrière over there! 😂😂😂😂
All the other teams just have some skill issues trying to master this
Yall hate it cuz it’s not your team doing it, or stopping it 😂
What happen to QB sneak
Keep the play.... If anything players gonna have to hit the weight room harder since it's a test of strength
GO BIRDS!! The NFL should be proud of the Brotherly Shove, it's innovative, and entertaining, but most importantly...unstoppable!! GO BIRDS!!
How to stop the Brotherly Shove: wait for Jason Kelce to retire 😃
Go Birds!
In rugby, it’s called a scrum.
it's a maul not a scrum, in a scrum the ball is on the ground
That Vikings guy is so pointless
How does the NFL think Reggie Bush didn't invent this with "the Bush Push"? What am I missing?
God I hate seeing this play. It's going to take some guy getting a broken neck and ending up in a wheelchair before it gets banned.
If every team could duplicate the eagles success then sure ban it. But they have turned it into an art form that only they can succeed with
Well, my Bucs stopped it 🤙
When everyone can do it maybe talk about changing the rule, so far it's only Philly consistently
Also, Jordan Maialata is a former Rugby player so I'm sure he has helped the team perfect this rugby move. I think it doesn't belong in the NFL and should be illegal.
Lots of NFL players have played rugby. But I agree, I don't know why they re-legalized it in NCAA and NFL in 2008 after it'd been illegal since 1906. Federation didn't legalize it, and Canadian rules (amateur and pro) haven't re-legalized it since 1956. Seems like a big, uninvited step backward.
Jordan Mailata has said nothing he did in rugby prepared him for it and that he learned it from the the Eagles and Jason Kelce. He said it doesn't feel like a rugby play to him at all.
@@brendancurtin679 What positions did he play in rugby?
Interesting. @@brendancurtin679
Man I can't believe 2012 was 5 years ago
🤨
Look at a rugby scrum for inspiration.
Origins? Pushing the runner from behind was a common tactic until 1906 when, along with pulling the runner, it was banned in American rules until recently. Neither pushing nor pulling the runner was banned in Canadian rules until 50 years later. Pushing the runner's still illegal in Federation rules.
The only thing is, before assisting the runner by direct contact was banned in 1906, there had been a number of years where the quarterback sneak was completely illegal because he had to move laterally 5 yards before crossing the line of scrimmage.
how many yards is the average push? could you do 4 down pushes all the way up the field?
As Eagles fan, I've seen them 4 yards once, but the Eagles average 2 or 3.
obviously if you kept running the play back to back the linemen would fatigue
I love this play especially as a Eagles fan!
I'm assuming they are being facetious with this video. Here is the best breakdown of the "Brotherly Shove" I've seen. th-cam.com/video/aTNK7boH9lo/w-d-xo.html
This is rugby ruck.
maul*
All it takes is a rugby coach who shows the Defense what a scrum is
As rugby coaches and players have said, its nothing like a scrum
it's like a maul, not a scrum
the only stopping this is injury
And Kelce retiring.
NFL will ban this soon, even though the entire world knows what a rugby ruck or maul is. Makes sense: use that big Offensive line to do its job
NFL players today come off so feminine. Not Nick Chubb or Mcaffrey, Kittle, Jared Allen.
Put like 5 guys behind the d lineman
it's a scrum...basics of the sport.
Just need the D-lines to devise a way to stop it. Play evolves. Someone will find a novel way to stop it.
based off NFL a human catpult is legal! stupid sport
1st and 9 GO BIRDS…
1st n 10 for the rest of ya
I laughed my ass off when the eagles fumbled during this play when they played the Commanders.
This whole thing is BS. This was developed decades ago by a high school coach who developed an entire offensive series around this idea. Wedge at 10, wedge at 8, wedge at 7. You dont block the defense you block the shoulder pad of the lineman inside you and dont stop moving your feet. I was a high school coach years ago and we would run this and 3 plays later we would be fifteen yards downfield and our own fans would be booing us because it was boring. It was a message to our opponent that you cant stop us.
And your own fans were giving you a message that you guys suck
Wedge is not the same thing, and it's much older than that. I've coached it myself with children.
The only people against it have been on the receiving end of it 😆
Pure rugby and rugby players are really strong and tough real gladiators
It’s not rugby according to the former rugby player, Jordan Mailata 🤷🏻♀️
@christinec7892 Rugby league is different than Rugby Union, but it is still RUGBY

Should be banned. Cheating. Was never allowed until this generations version of football has polluted the sport.
Go Birds!

They shouldn't make it ilegal, BUT the should let the defense to do the same! It's cheating when the offense can push the players but you dont allow the defense to do the same.

True, but we’ll take it.
Gotta also factor in the NFL apointing the Cheegles the "Team of Destiny" and getting refs to help.
@@tyvernoverlord5363 So silly. If the NFL appointed the Eagles, and got the refs to help, why then did the Eagles lose 4 out of 5 games? Did the NFL scriptwriters change their minds? Such nonsense.

There are a lot of things I would call it but an art form definitely is not one of them.
Can’t help the runner. It should be banned. They stupidly changed that rule which was in the books since the beginning
Not since the beginning, only since 1906...unless you mean the beginning of the NFL.
As an Eagles fan, it is getting old. Most of our tds are boring. I don’t think they should outlaw the play but our offense needs to get more creative.
Fly Eagles Fly 🦅
I would be happy if we could do the brotherly shove 4 times a game for a touchdown. The problem is the play calling has sucked so much that our offense barely makes any touchdowns.

I wonder has he thought if he never had broke Rodgers collarbone the NFL wouldn’t have these soft roughing the passer calls
