    You did the the chrome moulding right, it's not easy the first time but you have the right idea but installing that windshield the way you did it works but the string method is alot easier. Keep filming love watching your videos.

    Love all your videos! Appreciate that you do not overly edit the work and that you give a true feel to the work involved. I will be doing this soon in a 76 with trim also. Arm Chairing my thoughts here, could the trim, at least the bottom two pieces be inserted into the rubber gasket slot before the gasket is pressed onto the glass? Then maybe install the trim one at a time in the appropriate slot before you press that portion of gasket on the glass? Again never tried an install yet so sorry if this thought is way off course.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The on thing folks have said is that the glass goes in from the top, not the bottom like we did it. And some folks say the trim goes on after the glass with a liberal application of silicone spray and trim tools.

  • @warrior1482

    Use a small string, like a weed eater line. Lay it into the channel then lay your chrome molding on top. Squeeze the molding and chrome together as you pull the line out and it will pull the gasket around the lip of the chrome.

  • @APlusCarpetCleaningRedding
    @APlusCarpetCleaningRedding 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Holy cow! I never want to do that! Unfortunately, I will be needing to do this, but when installing a windshield I use the string trick. It goes much faster and easier. Put a string in the rubber seal and pull it inward causing the rubber gasket to fold out in place around the lip of the car.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is messier with the string from my experience. AND the truck glass sets in top first, passenger cars bottom first found that out after the install. 😁

    I know most comments on this are several years old. But if you would run a rope inside the moulding cavity on the glass that sets over the pinch weld all the way around with a bit of lube. Tuck under the rain Channel at the top first. Then as you pull the rope, the moulding pulls over the pinchweld. It makes it quite a bit simpler.

    I just got done with the glass and trim for my 69 f250. It was by far the most frustrating thing That exists in the universe. I spent the last 6 hours struggling with this piece of crap, I'm covered in glazing compound, my fingers are sore to the bone and I'm done. If the glass broke I would've set fire to my truck and never looked back. I tried it by hand like Jeff but that was a futile attempt. The only way I could get anything to seat properly in the rubber was to push rebar tie wire down into the slit and pull the little flap of rubber over the edge on the trim. Then when I got the glass actually on the truck, one of the trim pieces came out and I struggled to put that back in for the next hour and a half. There must be a better way! There must be, somewhere out there, an old-timey gentleman who worked at the factory who could help us out.

    • @AutoRestoMod

  • @RalphSampson...
    @RalphSampson... 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I skipped a whole bunch so, I may have missed something. But, I'm imagine you guys have seen the method of using a thin rope placed inside the rubber. After putting the rubber on the glass, you set the unit in place in the truck's opening. The rubber is completed by pulling out the rope thereby pulling the rubber lip over the metal flange of the truck.
    Is that not possible on this truck? My brother has a '72 he wants done. We are dreading it, especially after seeing this.
    Ultimately, a fine job you did.

      Had to go with your method! I have original 9/32" Carlite glass and there was no way to manipulate the stiff D.C. rubber enough to get it on the glass with the trim on it. Even without I had to sand down the sharp edges of the glass edges, heat a 6" section of the gasket with a heat gun, little soapy water spray, push it on and tape it to hold it and then repeat. Took me about 8 hours! Oh and I did apply 3M 8509, but forgot to puncture the inner membrane and blew out the seal on plunger side. Only got one side gooped with the nozzle and had to trowel in the rest from the back side oozing product. Hey not going to waste a $27 cartridge!
      Trim I mostly slid on leaving 5-10 inches to deal with, but that was enough! The good slid in area kept popping out while I worked on the other section so again tape was my friend to keep stuff locked in. Still took a couple of days of trying every method to get it done, but final corner still not great.
      Going to find someone to actually install it on the truck. Thank you for your lengthy video to show the struggle is real!

    Well, that settles it. If I ever need to do this to an F100, I'm going to pay you too do it. The glass and I would never survive this.
    And there is no way I could make videos for TH-cam if me working on things. I cuss WAY too much for it to be acceptable. 😆

      You can beep the words...I generally go outside though. Less editing that way.😀

      LOL Yeah, bing big, bold and stupid helps me. The factory guys slapped them in too. I've seen video somewhere of a line worker and his team member drop and slap a glass into place.

      It's the best way I'm not slapping it super hard, just enough to move the glass. Sorry to cause worry...but somebody has to take over for my mom now that she is gone. 🙂

    After watching this, I think I'm just gonna leave the trim off. My vans a rusty pile of crap anyway.
