If the windshield in your 1973-1979 Ford pickup is cracked or hazed, or if the weatherstripping is cracked and leaking, you're going to need to replace it. On most vehicles, this isn't a huge job, and can usually be completed in 1-2 hours. If your truck as the stainless trim around the windshield, though, plan on spending several hours, over several days, to replace this. This trim is a pain in the rear, to put it lightly.
We walk you through our journey in this video, showing the good and the bad. We went through two different seals, and spent about 8 hours in total trying to get this in. I can honestly say I hope I don't have to do another one of these any time soon (or ever again!).

Do it outside on a sunny day. A sun warmed seal is much easier to work with.

Yes and no. You could, but you take the chance of burning or melting the rubber. If you get it just a little too hot in one spot, there's no going back, and then we have to get a new seal and start all over. It's also a very think seal, so I don't know if the heat gun would have been that effective. After we got it around the glass, we put it in a small garage and ran a torpedo heater in there for a while to help it set. Once we got it on the truck, and I got it out in the sun, it popped right into place.
