Anna Miklashevich - Empowering Creativity During War: Breaking the Silence / Personal Stories Series

Anna Miklashevich is an artist, art educator and community leader born in Ukraine but living in Slovenia. In 2022 she started "Uartist" online community to support Ukrainian artists to keep creating, even after the traumatic experience of war. She encourages artist to share their experience, stories and perspectives, so their voices are heard throughout the world. In this video she speaks about her life journey and her endeavours as an artist, art educator and community leader.

She recounts her art path, from studying painting in Nipro to becoming a teacher in Kiev, where she dedicated long hours to painting and teaching students. Balancing her art career with a PR manager job was challenging, but she eventually realized she had to choose between supporting her clients' businesses and pursuing her own art. She took the leap and focused on her art, using her PR background to promote and sell her work.
When she moved to Slovenia, language barriers prevented her from teaching art to students. However, she found support from her online artist community in Ukraine. As war broke out in Ukraine, she started using social networks intensely to support and encourage fellow Ukrainian artists. She emphasizes the importance of sharing ideas and supporting Ukrainian art during this difficult time.
To amplify the voices of Ukrainian artists, she initiated that digital exhibitions of her fellow Ukrainian artists is exhibited as part of an In Ukraine / Out of Ukraine exhibition organised by APIS Institute in June 2022. This gave artists an opportunity to expressed their feelings and perspectives on war through their artwork She believes that art has the power to transcend borders and convey powerful messages, even in times of conflict.
Through her TH-cam channel, interviews, and social media platforms, she continues to empower artists and create a safe space for artistic dialogue. She concludes by emphasizing that art is a superpower, capable of breaking the silence, empowering creativity, and connecting people across the globe.
