Nice decks, my turntable of choice. The small noise at start is normal . It’s the pulley clutch engaging. If you examine the plastic part of the pulley , you’ll see it has some degree of movement around the brass section. I use Platanclene printer roller restorer on mats btw

While my intent was to keep this table, it has moved to a new home. I kind of regret selling, but I have too many tables in the stable :)

Really nice turntable. If I wan't refurbish platter mats, I use products for rubber seals for cars. They make the platter mats smooth and look like new.
    Kind regards from Germany......

Does it leave any residue that makes its way onto the records? That would be my concern.

@@millervintagehifi3034 Well, theoretically there might be a chance when you put the record on the wet platter thats full of the product for rubber seals. But you don't do that this way. With a cloth you wipe away whats too much and let the platter mat dry a few hours. So in practice there shouldn't be any resedue that influences the record badly. I use these products for years and I never had bad experiences.
But I am not a chemist, just an average guy who loves old turntables from the 70s. So theoretically I won't exclude any interaction. Is "interaction" the right english word in this context? Hope so.....Sorry, my english is getting worth because I don't use it daily any more...

    Hi, interesting work.
What kind of oil did you use? A Thorens special oil? A generic oil?
    A sewing machine oil?
    Regards...

I use something called "Reel Butter" (just because I have some)...it's basically very similar to synthetic motor oil.

You did'nt do anything to the dragging noise at the startup. 😳 There is a spring pushing the pulley against the plate attached to the motor spindle. You should lower that plate a bit.

I actually figured that out much later on (this was my primary table for a bit). It’s since moved on to greener pastures.

I'd perhaps checked anti-skate and stylus force spring mechanism working ok.

The belt is probably missing or has become goo. I suggest going out to vinylengine or audiokarma and creating a forum thread for help.
