I couldnt agree more!!!!!!!!! the true definition of "I have won at life" is having kids that look up to you, respect you, and most importantly.... LOVE YOU!!!
Great video Matt! I finally have some advice to hand over! For high-alpine lakes like these, there are a few things to note: - The fish in these systems cruise constantly, so a few spinner casts are great in each spot, but if they don't bite on that, swap over to something like suspended bait with a bobber/indicator. Like you saw in the stomach, these guys are eating a lot of suspended bugs and bugs that are floating on the surface. - In the mornings, an hour or two after sun rise and a couple hours before sunset are your best time to find them actively cruising. Midday, they will often move more towards the center, deeper portions of the lakes. I've had days on these waterways where I wont catch anything all day, then that magical hour and half before sunset, I'll land 10+ fish. - These lakes look like they're just going through their seasonal "ice-off". Meaning the fish are going to be ready to eat A LOT now that they have access to outside food sources again, but a patient bobber or fly fishing indicator setup will yield the best results. You can even land 2 fish on the same setup if you rig a couple suspended baits. My buddies and I have done this each year during ice-off in CO. - Finally, my ideal setup for these, whether you're using a spinning rod or fly fishing rod, is an indicator/bobber, with some chironomids and scuds suspended several feet down. Or for more active fishing, small black, brown, or green streamers with just a little weight. This mimics their more active, natural food sources of minnows and leaches. And then the cue de gra, which is the most fun, but very dependent on where you are and time of year, is a small floating hopper pattern. Drop one of these close to one of those ledge drop offs you were seeing in that super clear water for some truly exhilarating topwater takes.
For the people that love the outdoors and camping and don’t have anything like this near them, barely any good camping you make us feel like we are there so we thank you !
The main reason why me or us keep watching your videos is that you're not boring to watch. It's entertaining to watch bcuz you keep talking every move, every step. Also I learned a lot from you from fishing, cooking at many more. I love watching your videos while drinking my coffee ☕ however right now it's night time here so I can't drink coffee. I'm thinking if I'll just watch your this new video tomorrow but I can't wait till tomorrow. I'm your big fan for a very long time. The first video I watched was when you cought a small shark I don't know what kind of shark was it.
Been watching for 9 years. You got me back out fishing again about 8 years ago. Your Vipassana vid got me to go to a Goenka course. I’ve never commented, but I watch every vid and have been here through the ups and downs. Feel like I know you. Keep it going Matt.
I'm a sucker for the ocean catch and cooks, but there's nothing like a mountain catch/cook/camp video from you man. Makes me long to be out there myself! Said it before, but these are my favorite kinda vids from you!
Missed this kind of videos! Thank you too for taking us outside through your videos Mat. I live where there is no fishing and mountains to hike to. So watching you guys do what you do is already a joy for me. Been watching when you were below 60k subs.
I love the format of video you've been doing recently. Hiking, catch and cook, camping out, and eating all the great fish you catch. So awesome. I hope we get many more these!
Been a fan for a while. I watch when I can not every video but here and there. I envy your adventures and family, in my eyes you’re winning. I know it’s only bits and pieces from your life but thank you. love from Vegas.✌️
so cool to finally get to a new vlog from only 9 days ago (yayya).. I've been following along and watched a dozen 9years ago- 9days ago over this past week, which is when I discovered your vlog.... love what you do, your commentary is what others appreciate aswell.
Trouts stomach had hellgrammites in it. If you turn over wood pieces on the shoreline really slow you can find them on the bottom. The trout love them!! 1 hellgrammite=1 trout every time!
Been watching you for years man and I can't even begin to tell you the inspiration you have given me to get outdoors more and enjoy the benefits of it. Keep up the good work and keep inspiring people like me!
This video reminds me of the time my old man and I went to stay with at my oldest sister's house when she lived in San Francisco. We spent a couple days visiting an uncle over at Lake Tahoe and during our time there, he took us out to one of the rivers where I got to swim with a face mask that allowed me to see almost 30 feet down to the bottom of the riverbed. It was amazing because it was sooo clear and I could see a little cave-like alcove underneath where there were about 10+ 3-5'-long fish. I don't know what the fish were but they weren't scary-looking or anything like that--just some kind of river fish that would've been super-fun to fish for. But the water, nature... It's one of my most cherished memories. This video reeks of it. I envy you, Matt! But stay safe, man. That bear spray you have is good and all, but if I were you, I'd acknowledge the other threats and carry a firearm, too. Even for big bears, that spray might not be enough and with the world being what it is today, we all know how common weirdos can be in remote areas. Just stay safe, man.
been watching for years ive been getting a lot more into fishing and going camping and youve got me to love it just from your vids so thanks man wish you the best!
Some of us, like me, don't really enjoy camping and survival ourselves, but really enjoy others doing it and having fun. It's a joy watching you, and others like you, enjoy doing what you're doing and be happy.
You’ll probably never read this but I wanted to mention why you’re my favorite outdoors channel.i am 23 with no kids and my partner of 6 years has parted ways…it hurts so much seeing other channels enjoying the outdoors with their significant others, makes me feel horrible, but this channel it is always you alone even though you do mention your family you always do the adventures alone which makes me feel like encouragement of continuing alone after 6 years
I have been subscribed to you for the longest I love your videos and I remember at the very beginning I never skipped ads from how much I supported your work ! I love them to this day and you rock continue being you ❤

My fishing buddy has a Sienna and every year it converts into “Golden Trout One”. Uses schedule 40 to slide the fly rods above where we sleep. That way we’re always ready to fish! It holds one cot and enough room for a guest to sleep on the floor. Virtually holds tons of fishing gear, cooking equipment, portable stove, folding table, folding arm chairs, 5 gal water square jug with battery powered pump. Oh and an emergency cassette toilet. He custom made a blackout curtain behind the front seats… and folding blackout panels for the windows. A cargo net just under the rod holders for extra stuff. Rod holders are against the ceiling. Have fun with your Sienna. Also brings 1 to 2 ice chests.. never uses the cargo racks.
One of my top three youtubers right here! Im always so happy to see that you've posted and can never wait to get off work or have a break to indulge your fun, entertaining, awesome videos.
Howdy Matt! When you’re navigating snow covered mountains your main concerns for falling through the snow is a hidden stream, buried waterfall, crevasse, glacial crevasse. All you can really do is poke at the snow in front of you, and look for dips. Make sure to have some ice cleats or crampons in your mountain bag! It makes life up there a lot easier.
Hey Matt, after years and years of watching you I finally placed my first order on your website. Iv always dreamed of buying stuff off of it and now I did. I’m excited to receive my package soon but genuinely thank you. Keep up the great content and don’t you dare ever stop😂😂.

Love the video as always! Just wanted to respond to your question about the snow collapsing. Yes this is a very real possibility, smaller trees and even large bushes can get barrier under the snow in a way that creates a sort of pocket, and if you walk over it you can be sucked under and engulfed in the snow. Please be careful out there :)

I just started getting into fishing. My 12 and 9 year old love it. Looking forward to the Sienna videos. I’ve been looking at an older Honda Pilot. Keep up the good work.
I just found your channel and you had me at hello! Lol Love it cuz I dont live around such a beautiful area as you! Keep throwing that line, never know what you'll catch!! 😊❤
I literally just tried that jig head with a live worm method before I watched this video. I was up at Hume Lake, casting into a fast stream and I needed something with weight to get down to the strike zone. Didn’t have anything, but a white jig-head and some night-crawlers…it works!
I had the great experience of fishing with my brother near one of the highest points in Wyoming. Near Gannett Peak (13,000') on The Wind River Indian Reservation. We fly fished for 5 days and lived on trout. Goldens, Brookies, Cutthroats. And freeze dried food of course. Snow on the ground just like this. It was nice to see you experience high mountain fishing. Thanks.
Straight 🔥🔥🔥🔥episode bro, and definitely a nice trout/dinner! That’s what makes a trip like that PERFECT! Shoot, I gotta get myself up in Gods Country and do a little camping/fishing myself. Keep the great content coming mane, cheers from Fresno 👊🏼😎🤙🏼

Talk about perseverance and overcoming all odds. 👏.
Awesome video so beautiful. I always notice when trout fishing I never catch anything midday but early in the morning or sundown. Bingo you caught one right around sun down

Really like the drone shots, nice work fishermanslife
That looked like so much fun. Great video.
Great catch mate. Always carry extra lures & baits, even some feathers would do the trick with any jigs. Cheers from Australia.
I’m looking forward to more rock fishing this year from you !! 🤙
Hell yeah I cant wait to see that sienna build!!!
This was an amazing journey to witness. Keep up the great content!
It looks amazing, I wish I could go fishing with you one day. You have the best fishing spots.
ain't nothing like a snowy/winter fish session
Thanks.
Those mountains looked absolutely amazing
I always have to watch your videos, one of my favorite content creators
Around 13:15. That boulder in the clear water gives me an eerie feeling.
The drone footage at the beginning actually blew my mind, and THEN it zoomed out 3 more times and panned.
